they didn't match because they where getting pick 3 and they where less advanced than GWS at that stage

I’d be surprised if StevieJ will be as committed to the 3 tall forwards every week. Not enough goals scored and too many easy and rapid exits.I can still see 3 tall forwards in the 22 next year and rotating with the 4 depending on fitness and match ups but HH and TOJ (Name change maybe?) will be pretty much always there and then rotating out of Riccardi (Should play most games) and the rucks out of Briggs/Flynn/Preuss although it could all change if Esava is part of the Cameron trade

Great breakdown. I don’t really think we need more KPD depth at the moment. I want to see Idun more and think that 2-3 in reserve is plenty. The medium defender is clearly the problem... I love ash out of defense but want Whitfield to play a wing rather then back there. We now have cap space and a hole to fill.... that has to be our priorityOK, some interesting titbits of discussion about getting experienced players in vice more draft picks. I had canvassed that briefly in a couple of previous posts, and it's a real question.
Where we've lost experience based on who's left to date:
- KPDs: with Corr leaving and Keeffe, Stein, Buntine & Idun the backups, are we exposed for experience if anyone gets injured? Alternatively, do we draft for the future when Davis & Keeffe retire?
- Medium defenders - losing Heater and Zac at the same time has to hurt; although we could swing Lachie Whitfieldback, would we prefer to get an experienced defender? We have spoken about Witherden and Clark - neither of whom are actually experienced. Should we look at a Robertson or Savage type of player instead?PLAYERCARDSTART6Lachie Whitfield

- KPDs: with Jezza leaving, is a tall forward line setup out of Riccardi, Himmelberg, Finlayson, Buckley, Sproule plus potentially Flynn & Briggs sufficient? What experienced, capable forwards are there available?
Starting with the latter, I mused about looking at Josh Jenkinsas a guy who can be the backup ruck and seems to kick goals reliably (in the absence of any available, gettable KPFs), but I'm not convinced we need him (or anyone). We are obviously going to miss Jezza's reliable goal-kicking - as we saw this year when he was off - but perhaps we just need to settle on a forward setup and give it time to develop. Riccardi seems a no-brainer, then one of HH or ToJ, and because Leon loves his three tall setup, either the other of HH/ToJ or try one of the rucks up forward. That would also blood them and give them a chance to see if they can make the grade.PLAYERCARDSTART11Josh Jenkins

With KPDs, I'm not averse to getting a recycled KPD (as per my previous post a few weeks back), but equally we have the chance to pick up a draftee such as Nik Cox or Heath Chapman for the longer term. If ToJ was used up front, HH could be used in defence (or Buckley) until they were good to go. The value of Nik Cox is that he could be tried as either a defender or forward to discover his best position, and if we were to get 3 selections inside the first 20, we could always get both Chapman and Cox to hedge our bets. A recycled KPD might stifle the development opportunities for the future, so it's a knife-edge call.
Medium defenders is where I think we are weakest - losing 2 in Zac & Heater, plus having two rookies there (Reid & Brown). The only thing is, apart from the junior end of the scale (Witherden - unlikely, more likely to go home to Victoria & Clark - unlikely, more likely to go home to WA), there's no-one I'd really see as worth using a spot on. The alternative would be to recruit a winger (such as Tom Phillips) to allow us to put Whitfield back into defence as the rebound general & distributor.PLAYERCARDSTART21Tom Phillips

Based on losing Jacobs, Shaw, Corr, Williams, Cameron, Hately & Langdon, and picking up Preuss, plus upgrading Buckley, there's 33/38 positions. I'm assuming the cost would be a 30s or 40s pick.
If we just take the FA pick for Jezza, we get #s 9, 10, 20s (Corr), 30s (Hately), 40s & 50s (existing picks) for our 5 selections & Preuss trade. In that case I wouldn't want to trade any of the first 3 (i.e. first rounders) for anyone available, so it would depend on the value of anyone later.
If we force Cats to trade 2 picks for Jezza (I think Clark would be unlikely), then it would be #s 9, 12, 14, 20s, 30s, 40s for the 5 picks plus Preuss. There's probably a little more scope to trade - but it still depends on who is willing to come to GWS.
OTOH, I'm probably against trading up by using 2 of those first round picks. I'm not convinced the talent is worth 2 picks after you get past the first 5 (JUH, McDOnald, Hollands, Thilthorpe & DGB). Phillips is in there, but I'm not convinced he's worth trading up for (I'm sure others are), when later options at our two teen picks might be sufficient (O'Driscoll, Macrae - although he's a risk of flight home!, Carroll). DGB is possibly one at the back end of that 5 who would still be a good get - to me, better quality and less risky but similar swingman possibilities as Nik Cox later).
Overall, I think perhaps just 1 or at the most 2 recycled players in a couple of those key deficiency areas, but concentrate on long term value via the draft.
Thoughts on who? I don't mind the suggestion of Touhy, but honestly doubt that he'll want to leave Geelong. Witherden's been mentioned previously, but is a limited player admittedly, and not that much more experienced than who we have.Great breakdown. I think we can all put a line through Touhy... he went to the cats for premierships and he won’t jump ship just as they get he best forward line in the comp...Thoughts on who? Haha classicWARNING TO ALL VISITORS TO THE GWS BOARD. You are - for the most part - welcome to discuss the list management & trading situation at GWS. However, this is our board, so be respectful of the home board posters, don't have flaming arguments with other non-board posters (make your points succinctly and move on). And if you're just here to troll, because that's as much as your limited intelligence allows you to think (looking at you Bulldogs posters) then don't bother or you will be penalised.
Although I will say personally the conversations between GWS and Cats fans are rather productive, some other teams coming casting stones. Cats seem alright in general, quite like what Pure_Ownage has put up in both this thread and the main board Jezza thread
