Might be worth a serious look
Cameron apparently $1mil a season. And we get accused of not having a salary cap.

It'd be much more likely now than say last week when they didn't just sign one of the better wingers in the comp, does this put his spot in danger? He wasn't even best 22 for them this year so how does he break in ahead of the incoming Higgins, Cameron and Smith?I'd still love to chisel Jordan Clarkout of Geelong. Pick 11 (or whatever it will slide back to - but only 2 spots lower than a straight compo pick) plus Clark would be a great return for me. I know he's from WA and the chatter is about him going home, but boy if we could convince him that Sydney's fine and he's got a sure spot on our wing ...PLAYERCARDSTART6Jordan Clark

We could drop Whitfield back to be the defensive general with Ash & Cumming the running HBFs, then Clark on one wing ... that would be a strong line up in my view. (And of course I'd like to draft Heath Chapman to take over the vacant tall defender position - but as a running/rebounding tall that would be a great, well-balanced setup IMHO.)
Yes, I agree - that's exactly the thought I had with today's news on Isaac SmithIt'd be much more likely now than say last week when they didn't just sign one of the better wingers in the comp, does this put his spot in danger? After Crouch gets pick 2 compo, your compo pick for Cameron will be pick 12.
A lot of talk about matching, examples of Treloar and Shiel, asking for Parfitt and first rounders. Surely you don't now just fold and show you were all hot air and bluff?
Time to make history and force a trade, Geelong aren't letting Cameron slip into the drafts, they need him now before their ageing list hits the wall.
Interesting few days!

pick 2 for crouch, we'll need Darryl Kerrigan to tell youSo 1 over paid and under performing player for a reasonably paid and under performing player? Recruiting Grundy would be a slap in the face to guys like Williams and Corrpick 2 for crouch, we'll need Darryl Kerrigan to tell you
If I was GWS I would match the offer, as a cats supporter I don't want Cameron, I can't see and Hawkins working at all. And it's time GWS made a stand, another 4 quality players out the door.
Id try trade Cameron to Collingwood, just quietly I think Grundy is very gettable for you guys as a straight swap

The monster Cats offer, averaging out at about $950,000 per season, including incentives, has a trigger for a sixth season in the hoops if he plays a certain number of games in the fifth year of the contract.
The deal, which will make Cameron one of the top two highest-paid players at the Cattery alongside superstar Patrick Dangerfield, exceeds expectations and it is unclear whether the Giants will match it.
“It’s an eye-watering offer and contradicts the theory Geelong never backs up the truck to land a player,” a senior football manager said on Friday.
GWS has offered Cameron, 27, about $750,000 a season over five years, far less than his most recent contract.
If the Giants opt not to match the Geelong offer, they will be handed pick 12 in next month’s national draft as compensation for the 2019 Coleman medallist.
I would say that a draftee's profile has been highlighted so much by the footy press in the last 5-10 years, with potential Top 10 kids being as well known as 20-30 gamers at a club, that high draft picks come in with heightened expectations of their career path. It will all fall into place like it did in their draft year, and when it doesn't, they get impatient & restless. It's an effect of us and the Suns coming into the comp.
Well, so much for the theory that Geelong don't throw over-the-top money at anyone.
And similarly so much for the rubbish Vicmedia reports that the departures from GWS aren't about money - Jezza, Williams, Corr, Caldwell & Hately all going on deals worth considerably above their current value; obviously several having the added bonus of ''going home''.
Possibly. I (personally) don't think the just below $1m is actually enough to ''blow us out of the water'' - we would have the money (especially given the multiple departures this year) & have paid around that mark to Jezza in the past, but don't want to spend that high on Jezza going forward - we need to drag everyone down to a more amenable level of contract (more in line with the Cats' approach!).Is Cameron just lucky enough to be the right player in the right circumstances at the right time?
I don't think Geelong would normally pay anyone this much, but do Geelong think it's money well spent if GWS don't match so they get to keep all of their draft picks?

I think Corr & Williams' offers were closer to ''blowing us out of the water'' - we couldn't possibly spend that amount of money on role players, where you would for a match winner like Jezza.
So what's the feeling, after all the tough talk are you matching or backing down and taking just pick 12?
Bullshit comment.
We talked matching when the thought was the offer was 850 or less.
Over a million? I say we take the pick and worry about 2021.
Player trades are just so rareI say we have the cap space, match the contract and force the trade
Obtain another pick and a player
