Menegola is my number 1.
Simpson, Bews, Henry and Blicsvas would be guys that I'd like (assuming Dangerfield, Guthrie and other clear stars are off the table)

Sam Menegola is the premier player out of all of those names, but I just don't see him as in any way realistic to come to Sydney. He has a guaranteed spot in the Cats 22, a West Australian so any move more likely to be west rather than north, and he's looking for more $. At 28, while he's good to replace our lost experience, it also leaves us with less time we'll get out of him. Someone like Clark at least has a full career left. Bews and Henry I must admit I'm not sold on. Blicavs I'd take in a heartbeat to replace Corr, but again just don't think we'll entice a local Geelong man to NSW.

I know Clark is unlikely, but still more likely than most of the others. The lure would be a guaranteed spot every week; but if Freo can offer that, he's more likely to go home.

I will concede that Geelong do a great job targeting the right players for them - of course it doesn't hurt that their local junior team is an AFL player production factory! SO it's difficult to see who would come to GWS. We might just have to settle for draft picks, and then look to trade elsewhere for experience. I'd still look at Tom Phillips as a two-way running winger.

The previous journo guess/estimate was $550k, which might be right given Crouch's $600k deal was also band 3.

I don't think there was too much vitriol against Aidan? Disappointment certainly, as with Zac & Jezza. For me, it's easier to accept that these guys were paid significantly more to go home - a 'double whammy' that's impossible for us to counter. Sure we'd like to hope they'd be 100% loyal to the team that recruited them, but money and the lure of home are just big barriers for us to fight against. It just points to facts that make the comp not truly national, and why the NSW & Queensland academies are so important to keeping the interstate teams viable. (Not that we've been able to keep guys like Setterfield, Steele and Williams leaving their home state for either bigger money, bright lights, or more opportunity.)

I think Menegola would be gettable and is probably the only available player who would slot in an improve GWS straight away. Gola +13 would be hard for the cats to walk away from. Of the younger available players Constable is probably the best (Fogarty is a bit meh, Narkle has shown potential but has a tendency to lapse out of games).

$450k is close enough to league average ($386k last time they published figures IIRC) that I'd expect band 5 (Round 3) or even nothing, depending on the age of the player.

As Giant Strides suggests, this is closer to the $550k mark originally floated in the media.

I don’t think any of us want constable on the list. That’s a player who won’t get midfield time (so won’t play) a first rounder outside the top 5 (so it might as well be 13) and a second round selection... no chance that deal happens

If we weren't already (and I doubt we would've been) in contact with him this is the time, if he's willing to move to a state that isn't VIC we need to sell NSW to him, he's a Heath Shaw replacement with a better kick

agree Clark or witho would be a real get and significantly improve our transition out of Def play
 
With the season the club has had and also with the players leaving I think it is important for the club to have a god trade period in terms of what they can get for the players leaving and also the trades that happen so some thoughts

Cameron
a top 5 pick would be ideal and then either a late 1st/early 2nd or a decent player or depending on later pick swaps those are flexible somewhat
Caldwell
Late 1st or 2 x 2nds or some pick swaps to move up the draft order
Hately
2nd rounder and I think this will be a early trade so it should let the club work out a way to move up the draft order with some packaged picks
Langdon
Seems to be agreed on as a 3rd rd

Preuss
I see his value as a late 2nd or a couple of pick swaps in the 2nd/3rd rd
Hogan
Seems to be agreed on as a 3rd rd

So I can see the club trying to have 2 x 1st rders with ideally a top 10 to take a tall and then the best mid available with the other 1st rd

It will be interesting to see if the club tries to move some picks into next years draft

Hopefully the club announces the list sizes asap with the trade period starting tomorrow and with the club not announcing delistings yet there must be lots of players in limbo and also the clubs working out deals and I can see several delisted players moving around and it should enable the club to add some depth and experience to step into the best 22 and also help with the reserves comp and maybe the club will look at some of these players

Townsend I think would be a good pick up for the club to play a Reid role in the reserves if he wants to move back to Sydney

A few of the North players would be interesting to look at and I know some have issues but as a DFA and on a base salary + games played I think Marley Williams/Pittard or Macmillian would add some experience and if they are interested in a change of scenery. This is just an example of some players the club would look at in terms of a running defender with Williams and Shaw not on the list and I cant see Reid as a suitable back up for the defensive set up IMO

I said this earlier, but at Corr's level, a significant pay rise is a more than reasonable motivation to leave. It is literally life changing.
I have zero problem with him going.

It would have to be a 3 way trade where narkle goes to freo from us as you cant on trade players.

We would do that but you guys are getting robbed hogan is worth way less than that.
Honestly if we send say 13/15 and 20 to you and some sort of fringe player (eg constable or narkle etc not clark) to freo and they send hogan to you that looks fairer for you and us. Hogan is not worth a top 30 pick imo.

Is he related to the wards? To be fair i think we like fog but we have a lot of his type so he is expendable in a trade like this. All comes down to whether the player actually wants to move though.

Not to mention menegolas dad is the sport news director for channel 7 in melb..i can see him leaving (more next year than now) for $ as its his last big deal but i reckon he goes to another victorian club.

To be fair the names you suggested are perfectly reasonable the difficulty is players here have more power than the NBA..kids like miers and henry grew up barracking for the club..zuthrie has his brother here..simpson and bews are father sons and blicavs family is best friends with guthries. Apart from blitz i think we would trade any of them to you but i doubt they will agree to go.
Its more likely guys moving for opportunity like constable narkle fogarty etc could be more easily convinced.
Unless of course this ends up being one of those giant multi club trades where we move those guys to a club they want to go to which gets you player x from that club.

Yes, personally I'm not a fan of the 'we want a player' - unless you've essentially already courted a specific player. I understand why they want a more experienced player rather than just another draft pick - and it does highlight the ongoing limitation of the current ''national comp''.

A third party inclusion is probably the most likely way to achieve a player; but othrewise we'll just have to take draft picks. We can always try to entice a club to push out a reluctant player from there.

Seems reasonable. I think you probably deserve more for Cameron but it might be hard to prise any more out of Geelong.

You could always try switching 13 and 20 for Carlton’s pick 8, depending on how your recruiters value the bottom half of the top ten of this draft. If they don’t think there’s much difference between the guys that are 6-15 then there wouldn’t be any point in moving up.

I think its one of those deals where both clubs are giving/getting a bit more/less than they want so its probably fair.

Freo are basically fire sale on hogan so they cant expect more than that.

To be fair Alison Zell could run this club. She pretty much does everything from game day on field crosses to interviews with the coaches mid week.

If there were life memberships for staff she would have one for sure
