Love Eddie but honestly would have preferred he retired and we got a younger, long-term small forward in.

He's a guy everyone loves but I hope this isn't a case of going 1 year too many, and his last year being marred with some poor performances and criticism from Carlton fans.

Charlie Curnow, Brodie Kemp, I fully expect Cripps to have a much better season, Zac Fisher hopefully plays a full season. I really rate Caleb Marchbank and hope he can get on the park, you would expect Philp, Cottrell and honey to improve. Jack Silvagni has basically had no season just when I expected him to explode. There's probably more but there's a good start.
So you named three current players in the side cripps Fish -cotterell dropped silvagni been injured all year .. I doubt cripps or fish are going to bring a huge improvement on performance .. we still have a lot of gaps -- I will bet Jones still gives up Two goals a game through numpty decisions -- curnow will still have poor disposal by foot even though he in TOP of our highest possesion getter .. we still a way off ..

I hope everyone doesn’t have too high expectations about Charlie next year given his injury. 2022 definitely

I named players that i think will have better seasons and improve us next year. Tgat was the object of the exercise.

For sure. Then we could draft an athletic tall forward and develop him for five years and hope that he ends up as good as Harry

I said I would think about it, not necessarily do it. I think it's one of those silly season rumours (not true) anyway.

Honestly if the club allow Eddie to take up a senior list spot and the lists are cut as expected it will be an absolute confirmation we are the opposite of ruthless and in fact gutless.

Not aimed at you at all this question, but why are lists being culled? Surely we have list sizes as they are because clubs need that many players in case if injuries etc

If salary cap is being minimised then cut it across the board.

It seems they will lessen list size and increase the wage of the top players.

Typical and not surprising.

I see the list cuts and soft cap reduction as ways for the AFL to save money as they are finding a lot of clubs.

When you have 22 required each week and clubs eg Goldcoast have 51 on their list now.

Players won't take a pay cut. Minimum pay for players etc is set in the EBA. So list sizes come down to save cash.

Plus with lower soft caps less coaches potentially etc. How many players can clubs with less staff manage/develop.

It's also not clear what the list cuts will be or if they happen. Also what the second tier will look like if any in 2021.

So if the lists get cut down to 40 from 47.

BSOS
Finbar
Lang
Goddard
Kruezer
Simpson

Some of those have been rumoured and others are fairly likely (plus the retirements).

That leaves the following players as definite maybes.

Macreadie
Moore
Polson

That still makes a list of 38 players. I would say a couple of a recent draftees might get the chop to make room for free agents/trades and new draftees.

Hopefully the lists are no less than 42.

I believe the media were suggesting 40+2 in recent times but that may have changed.

The cuts won't be too difficult for us.

Exactly, absolutely pointless trading him. It would be interesting though if North are offering him five years at say $900k.
It’s the sort of thing GWS constantly battle with, teams would be made not to be making him some very tempting offers.

Then cut the Gold coast list. Don't cut the rest. Keep it at 40 (talk tonight is 35). But I guess as long as some players are earning their million dollars it makes headlines.

Unpopular opinion for this board but Zac Williams is not a 700k-800k player and just because he’s a free agent doesn’t mean we should sell the farm to get him, he’s a good kick but apart from that he is extremely overrated he has average speed doesn’t have the fitness to play full time midfield and is maybe a 10-15% upgrade on Newman as a hbf, It would be horrible list management to make him our 2nd or 3rd highest paid player let north over pay for him.

Rory Atkins is an upgrade on LOB, but he doesn't displace Newnes from the team, so not worth throwing money at him, IMO.

There's merit in going after Jed Anderson as an Ed Curnow replacement. Marley Williams is the type of player that we would look at, but I dont know if he is any good (who watches North?)

Atkins is Adelaide fans whipping boy. Has a long deal with GC on decent coin. He's an average Wingman with ok skills

Surprised there's no thread about Eddie re-signing. What's the general feeling on that?
Dumb decision but not surprised. Game has passed him now and even more so in 6 months time.

Having said that, will kick more goals than anyone else we play next year. But will take away a year of development in said player.
