Very concerning. I thought our game plan was all about pressuring the opposition ball carrier. First thing Farnsy's going to try to do when he gets here is Take the Pressure Down.

I'll get my coat ...
Not sure about this post, but I guess it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Gavin Brown

North Melbourne Head of Development Gavin Brown says the axing of senior assistant coach Jade Rawlings is an unfortunate by-product of COVID-19 cuts at AFL clubs.

Despite having two seasons left on his contract, Rawlings was let go on Wednesday as head coach Rhyce Shaw continues to search for more experience around him following a season which saw them win just three games.

Rawlings, whose brother Brady is football boss of the club, becomes the third assistant to part ways with North Melbourne in 2020, after Jared Rivers and Brendan Whitecross left the club earlier this year.

Brown said Rawlings’ departure was a prime example of the current challenges football is facing.

“It’s a great example of the landscape going forward unfortunately,” he said on SEN’s Time On.

“This year has been really disappointing in that regard and it looks like it’s going to be this way in the short to medium term, I think AFL footy is going to take a bit of a hit.

“Let’s just hope the product doesn’t deteriorate too much because I think the growth of the game and the development of the game is really important.

“Who knows what happens with the second-tier competition and fewer coaches, it has been a great product and I’m sure it still will be but let’s hope we can get back to some normality soon.”

North Melbourne delisted 11 players last month, while also publicly putting star forward Ben Brown on the trade table.

There’s also talk around midfield pair Jared Polec and Shaun Higgins, who could also leave the club this off-season.

Brown opted to take a more optimistic view of the club’s fortunes, saying he was excited what added opportunities could do to help further develop their next generation of players.

“It’s always a sad part of footy when the dreams of young guys are ended,” he said.

“There’s probably a few more (players) than normal but it’s also a very exciting time for the footy club because we get the opportunity to blood a lot of players and with that, it’s exciting because you don’t know what you’re going to get.

“You can get some great young talent and things turn around pretty quick so that’s pretty exciting.”

Bit contradictory this.... brown saying it's a Covid casualty, yet seemed to be a performance issue

Not sure how getting rid of a guy with two years on a contract helps the situation?

Has he been paid out the balance of his contract this year to avoid it rolling into the 2021 Soft cap?

Has he been terminated without having his contract paid out?

Hope we are at least in contact with the management of Caldwell, O'Halloran and Hateley. Get the feeling that whoever picks up these kids from GWS is going to get a steal. I rate all three very highly.

GWS has upped their deal for Caldwell from 2 to 4 years. You would think he will stay.
Hateley will go to Adelaide.

Also someone mentioned Isaac Cumming. He has re-signed until the end of 22.

Caldwell be purely whether happy there nsw or wants to come home.... 4 yrs maybe detrimental as that's a fair time to commit to anyway from "home".... he might have preferred to commit only to two

Somethings up unless we're really going after a big fish. Other clubs aren't cutting senior assistants and currently have more coaches on the books than we do. Is it a BS contract thing and we're still paying him off or what's happening?

Why not just get a better coach?
I'm not sure about this hand holding caper either. Shaw put his hand up for the big job, now let him coach.

I get that people have mentors, but it shouldn't be in a formal (ie paid) capacity. Formal mentors create confusion around who is actually in charge.

Maybe I'm just used to setups at lower levels but having 10 coaches for 40 players seems like overkill to me anyway.

It'd be hard to get a wifi signal in there.
