I wouldn't pay 7 for Saad, I mean i think he is a really good player and would love him at the club, but I don't like him that much. I wouldn't want us to pay 9 for him and if we had the Dogs 12 I still would be reluctant. it is amazing how much his tyres have been pumped up and Brown's deflated by the media.

I'm not claiming Saad is worth 7 alone, I am stating that pick 7 will be utilised in the trade. They will get it, with something like a 2021 2nd round pick going back to Carlton. You need to remember that Saad isn't a FA.

I don't want to nit pick, but you have posted their totals and BBB has obviously played more games.

It's a fairly irrelevant comparison, post their averages.

Boomer would kick Gary Ablett Jnr's ass in a likewise comparison.
Understand your point but disagree it's irrelevant. My focus was durability and proven performance, which I think often gets overlooked with BB vs JD. Most tend to fawn over what JD is capable of, rather than what he's actually done. BB is the opposite; 1 trick pony Etc. yet is the most proven performer over '17-'19 and his career. The totals summary supports this.

Anyway the averages comparison paints a similar picture, in that BB is the better performer in most of the KF metrics that matter; goals, accuracy, frees for/ against ratio, goals assists (equal), marks I50.

Daniher comes to a buyer for free, Brown doesn't.

I can only hope that GC are interested, otherwise the next best suitor I can see is the dogs at pick 13 (which will end up ~17)

I can see a scenario emerging where Brown becomes a pick & player trade.

Will be a few clubs trying to do this, Adelaide hold a lot of points.

Hopefully the dogs are keen on Brown, because that could be their incentive to work with us.

I think Crows and Hawks have the picks to do it, from their current hand. Similar to us, they should be turning over a fair few and they need to be mindful of burning that much currency to upgrade pick 20 or 21 to 12 is worth it. Unless you are full to the brim with talent, the shotgun approach is usually a better option.

Crows have a really strong hand, especially as they will get something of value for Crouch (dont see them getting pick 2), but their list is a long way behind ours in terms of rebuild, as is Hawthorn.

Yes very interested is one thing but being able to afford? Still have daicos Moore de goey and mio to fit

Daicos is the one. Apparently pies can't offer him that much. Reckon next few years he will go to another level. Rattle the cage & offer him 4 × $500-$600. Surely he will stay, but might force them to up their offer & shake a few other pies loose in order to keep him.

Are you referring to ON the books?

No chance he plays anywhere else.

I'd expect Essendon to be bottom 4 next year, especially if the exodus continues, their second round pick will probably be in early 20s, that would make Saad an equivalent to a mid 20s pick in value.

If that is his approximate value then Carlton should be able to expect to trade him for 27+45 and they can keep 7 and hopefully get another great player.

If I was Essendon, I'd want pick 7 too... I just think Carlton would be crazy to give it up for Saad. It is not like Carlton are remotely close to contending atm, and Saad isn't the missing link. We are talking about someone like Will Phillips could go around 7 or Bruhn, etc. Not sure I would pass the opportunity to get someone like that for Saad.

Essendon got Saad for a second round pick in 2017 and he hasn't really done anything between then and now to massively elevate his value imo. If I was Carlton, I would look to trade him for what is his market value rather than sell pick 7 and get something back.

We've been rattling cages for 5 years. So far nothing has fallen except our ladder position.

I think they'll try and split the pick, say with Geelong to try and get two mid to late firsts.

I wouldn't either but I reckon that would be minimum.... even talk of wanting a second or third too given he has finished in the top 5 bf last few years barely missed a game and ess had a cak pretty equal for him... this one will play out similar to paps last year

.

Saad & pick ~24 (2021) for pick 7 (2020) puts Saad at around pick 18-19. That's fair trade value.

The scum won't give a **** about what benefits Carlton, nor should they. Afaic this trade is already agreed upon, and that means pick 7 is involved directly in the trade. We shall have to wait & see what eventuates.

It's just one of those sayings that comes out at this time of the year. "Shake the tree and see what comes loose" is another one.

I think we need to keep shaking our own tree so a whole bunch of draft picks hit us on the head. Once our tree is strong enough, we start giving players a reason to come rather than offering B grade players A grade loot.

I think they'll try and split the pick, say with Geelong to try and get two mid to late firsts.

The scum will play hard ball, and Carlton will fork over in a pick swap scenario.

They forked over 13 in pick swaps for McGovern. The scum hold the whip hand here. Why would they accommodate Carlton?

Yes agree would def want him plus would overpay and offer long term.... but it's a daicos part of the furniture another coming in think he is the least of the four to leave...

Which is why there will be panic buying on popcorn over the next month. Can't wait

Essendon could force Brisbane to the trade table by matching its $3 million five-year contract offer to restricted free agent Joe Daniher.

The base salary of Brisbane’s offer is expected to be around $650,000.

The AFL confirmed to the Herald Sun that it would only take into account the guaranteed money, as well as Daniher’s age, when determining Essendon’s compensation pick.

The structure of Brisbane’s offer could drop the compensation from a first-round selection (No. 7) to an end-of-first-round selection (No. 20).

Essendon has the right to match Brisbane’s offer — because Daniher is a restricted free agent — and force Brisbane to strike a trade, which it will certainly do if it suspects it will only receive No. 20.

In 2015 Adelaide and Geelong maturely negotiated a trade for restricted free agent Patrick Dangerfield because the Crows were only slated to receive No. 13 as compensation.

The Lions currently hold picks No. 18 and 19.

LIONS’ LOGICAL PLAY

The most logical solution would be for Brisbane to ensure its contract offer was fat enough to deliver Essendon pick No. 7 as free agency compensation and avoid having to give anything up in a trade.

Port Adelaide signed Lion Tom Rockliff on a base salary of $600,000 per season in 2017, but Brisbane only received an end-of-first-round compensation pick.

But Rockliff was 27 at the time, whereas Daniher is a year younger at 26.

AFL integrity officer David Grossman must sign off on the contract, as he does for all deals.

Hmmmm, the contract offer from Brisbane must not guarantee top end round 1 compo.

What's the odds that the AFL does the right thing by Brisbane and give thr scum band 1 compo? We'll know it's corrupted if the scum let him go and then pick 7 magically drops in their lap.

A fair bit of talk around that the offer won't meet band one compensation, more likely to be end of first round.

AFL: hold my beer

It is why North Melbourne, which is looking to generate as many top-end picks this year as possible, could target the No.12 slot to add to their No.2 and 9 picks by packaging later picks together for the Dogs.

Whilst I understand another pick at 12 would be brilliant, I would have thought that we may need every one of our picks (rather than swapping 2 later for 1) to replenish our list?
