Ive always been sketchy on go home factors but generally that doesnt happen until mid 20’s.. by then, he will be the second best key forward behind larkey and may not want to leave, if he does.. his value will be huge.. its a win with little to no loss associated in picking him

If he does want to go home in 5 years, hopefully, he is elite for goal assists ;) because that is how key forwards are judged at North

No question he can find the footy, but I just don't like the bloke. Strikes me as an arrogant a-hole who just expects to walk into a successful team without doing any of the hard yards. I've seen or heard nothing that makes me think otherwise. Downhill skiier. We're already carrying Hall and Polec don't want another.
Disagree, seems like an okay bloke. He isn't for us though.

The Bombers have the threat of walking Caldwell to the pre-season draft if a deal can't be met, but that would rely on other clubs – including North Melbourne and Hawthorn – not jumping in first.

I doubt we would do that ;)

Yeah. We're jumping in first, banana heaDodoro.

nah no way, he'll easily get to Essendon ;)

Those saying that Treloar is a sh*t and/or arrogant bloke, are way off the mark.

Same things were being said about Higgins, before he arrived at North.

We wouldn't be taking Higgins again either in our current position.

I say exactly that. and again, nothing i have seen or heard makes me think otherwise. But that's just personal opinion, and you know what they say about opinions. I see a certain irony in that.

I'm digressing. No to Treloar.

That’s a decent contract for a kid that has done **** all. We seem pretty circumspect with contracts right now. I wonder if Brady would be prepared to outlay that.

Prob been mentioned but can't be arsed scrolling through - Will Brodie and Stephenson are the 2 I want to see us go after.

Unless he has off field issues I’d actually be keen on Matty Parker, he has some serious speed, leaping ability, forward pressure and flair. Some things that we’re really lacking and he’s only 24 years old.
Where do I sign? He is lighting quick, has x-factor, and a bit of mongrel about him. That hit on McGrath last year was brutal. At this stage in time we have turner...almost any small forward in the league offers more. I hope the new coach has enough sense to move Turner to the backline and give another small forward a go. Huffing and puffing at moderate pace and living off hits from 5 years ago doesn't really do it for me nor does it for opposition players/coaches.

The other one from the suns also worth looking at is Fiorini who got pushed out of the midfield

Ummm, Parker is 190, so not sure he's taking Sugar's spot.

That aside, I think Parker would definitely be on the DFA list, assuming his ankle passes a medical. Got some tricks, plays like he means it, right age, and his life experience gives him the desperation to do well

Just proves how good mature aged players can be, especially when you know their role and what you get when drafting them in.
If we're going to be going for a rebuild I wouldn't mind looking for a few of his type in different positions.
Mature aged players given a shot after years in the reserves are usually going to work a lot harder and want it more than a kid straight out of yr 12.
Also ready made body and strength helps a lot too. Big big fan of mature aged players in some circumstances.

What a fine display of prejudice built upon arrogance. You've got no idea of the bloke, but choose to air your own subjective perceptions with no awareness of the basis of your own opinions.

If everyone is trying to blow us for pick 2 to secure a ‘generational forward’.

Then I’d like us to just draft the kid ourselves so I can actually enjoy watching him play.

Who are the other generational forwards we’ve seen in the top 2? Jon Patton? Tom Boyd? Roughead was a good one. Not as good as Buddy.

The only safe bet is to increase your odds in a decent hitting zone. Top 5 looks great (prob top 7 if you include Campbell and JUH). Which of these guys turns into the best is anyone’s guess but historically it’s not pick 1 or 2.

Hey peeps

our list manager has talked on trade radio about moving up in the draft, the speculation on our board is to get McDonald

Seems everyone wants McDonald, the problem is Crows are a strong chance to take him at number one, the only way you can get him for sure is to go after Adelaide's pick. There would potentially be some play with us if Crows don't take McDonald then during the draft North could theoretically trade pick 2 for the guarantee of getting McDonald, I assume that would cost a premium though. At present if you were to trade for pick 2 there is a strong chance he wont be around at 2.

On the negative side, our club said it wasn't trading pick two, but if a deal was too good to refuse I am sure the club would consider it. At present we are looking at McDonald or Hollands I would imagine with pick two, DGB is another I rate highly. Going out of the top 3 imo is a potentially career ending move for a recruiter/list manager. I doubt they would take that risk unless the offer was considerable.

some on our board are suggesting pick 5 this year and next years first. I think that’s a massive call. All for a kid that hasn’t played a game but was interested in your thoughts?

I agree, huge risk. GWS last year gave Adelaide their first round pick this year to move up from 6 to 4, it is likely going to be exponentially more expensive to go from 4 to 3 to 2 to 1 I would imagine. I think if a club is gun shy about it they probably shouldn't consider it.

McDonald did have an exceptional year in the WAFL, if he continues to develop at AFL level the same rate he would be someone you could build a premiership dynasty around. Martin's ability to perform on the big stage consistently has made what has been a pretty average Richmond team into a three time premiership team in the last four years. One player can totally change the prospects of a side if he is good enough.

A lot of kids do not make the transition, including a lot of number 1 picks. He does look like an exceptional talent though, it is not a surprise clubs like Essendon want to make a huge push to get hold of him as well. For clubs like Crows or us, who need a lot of talent all over the park, I can understand the appeal of turning one great pick into a few good picks, it is the kind of thing that only hindsight could say for sure if it was a good decision or not.

Are North even interested in trading pick 2, I can only see it if you were after someone else and was sure you could get them at 5 and then get a free hit at the pointy end of the draft next year

We said we aren't going to trade it, that is to say we aren't actively shopping it around, we want to go to the draft with the best draft hand we can get. We are not unlikely to trade it but you I am sure clubs would even trade pick 1 at the right price.

FYI until this discussion we seemed to be into Phillips in a big way.

Phillips looks like a great kid and would love him at my club as well. That being said, with Rowell, Anderson and your midfield group I am not sure he will make an exceptional impact to your side, you are going to have 3 core mids who play 85% ToG, you will have two wing men and a bunch of flankers who rotate through the middle as well, who is he going to push out of the side and how much gain is it really going to provide the side over what you already have.

We have this issue with Higgins and our Anderson, great servants of the club but Simpkin and LDU are ready to go, Cunnington will be back next year, where are we going to play them? Addressing a weakness end turning into a strength will do a lot more than padding an area where you are already strong in imo.

Good point.

If we pass up on a Buddy we’d never forgive ourselves.

The others we’d look like geniuses.

Depends what our risk appetite is I guess and what the trade looks like.
