Inside Trading: The 19 deals in play with four days to go

https://www.afl.com.au/news/523921

Ben Brown
North wants as strong a draft pick as possible for Brown but Melbourne has been hesitant to part with pick 28. Tom McDonald has been raised in discussions but won't be going to the Roos as a Brown replacement in attack. The Demons are keen to add Brown to their forward mix alongside youngsters Sam Weideman and Luke Jackson and may push for a deal to instead focus on their future second-round pick.

Shaun Higgins
Set to a accept a two-year deal at the Cattery but must be patient as Geelong prioritises its negotiations for Jeremy Cameron. The Cats don't want to part with anything more than a second-round pick after Higgins, 32, was told he could look for opportunities elsewhere. North Melbourne, meanwhile, wants to move its pick No.28 up to the Cats' pick No.20, as well as acquiring a second-round selection for the contracted midfielder.

Saad. 26. Out of contract. Half back flanker. Worth a future first.

Brown. 28. Out of contract. KPF. Barely worth a second despite being offered a five year contract.

Seems legit.

A player is worth as much as clubs are willing to pay. I've said this the whole time - If what you think Brown is worth something more than a 2nd rounder and no one is willing to pay that (and they're not) then maybe you're the one that is off in your estimation of Brown's worth and value in the grand scheme of things. This is just the fact of the matter; Saad is valued higher than Brown in the AFL world.

I know I'd rather Saad over Brown - but that's beside the point. The point is a player is worth as much as the value he has in the 'market' and Brown unfortunately for us isn't valued that highly

All these media types saying Ben Brown is worth a 2nd rounder only. Fast forward 12 months ... Brown wins Coleman. These same media types will bash us for letting him go for a 2nd rounder.

Saad and Brown is a tricky comparison.

What about Cameron and/or Daniher? What do those 2 do that Brown doesn't?

A player is worth as much as a club is willing to accept for him.

Saad is a decent HB flanker. Wouldn’t even have him in the top 10 in the position in the league.

Brown is a current top five KPF based on total career so far.

NORTH MELBOURNE

What’s been done so far

As expected, the Kangaroos landed former GWS defender Aidan Corr as a restricted free agent, reportedly for five years and $2.75 million. They held off a late charge from the Hawks, and the deal delivered the Giants a second-round compensation pick.

What’s left to do

The Roos are in the unfortunate position where they need to trade out some of their best players, as they want to find new homes, but they have little leverage – and it means they’ll probably get unders for both. Shaun Higgins is almost certain to join Geelong and despite his quality, his age means a late second-round pick is the likely return. Likewise Ben Brown is expected to join Melbourne, with a second-round selection also the likely price for the goalkicker. There doesn’t seem to be any interest in Jared Polec, despite him being dropped during this past season, especially with the Roos uninterested in paying part of his salary to move him. Jed Anderson is yet to sign a new deal and a number of clubs are monitoring the situation though Carlton is not.

What draft picks they have to use

2, 11, 28, 63, 71, 81

Exactly. If Saad is so good he would've won *'s B&F and not finish 3rd in what was a shocking season.

I don't rate Daniher, so I'd agree that he isn't worth much more than Brown in my assessment of things. Fortunately for the scum my assessment of things means nothing and Brisbane's means everything in this case. Brisbane will be looked back on as morons IMO and they offered him a contract that beggars belief.

Cameron is better than Brown in that he is more athletic and versatile. Can play further up the ground or inside 50m, great leap, agile for his height etc. You're not going to find many AFL watchers (barring one-eyed North supporters) who would disagree that Cameron is just flat out better than Brown.

Great leap, agile, blah blah. Compare his stats to Brown.
