A player is worth as much as clubs are willing to pay. I've said this the whole time - If what you think Brown is worth something more than a 2nd rounder and no one is willing to pay that (and they're not) then maybe you're the one that is off in your estimation of Brown's worth and value in the grand scheme of things. This is just the fact of the matter; Saad is valued higher than Brown in the AFL world.

I know I'd rather Saad over Brown - but that's beside the point. The point is a player is worth as much as the value he has in the 'market' and Brown unfortunately for us isn't valued that highly

I agree that “a player is only worth as much as a clubs are willing to pay,” but I feel the way it has played out through the club, Brown’s management and the media has given a bitter taste with North supporters.

If we didn’t have to get on the front foot with the situation, if Ramanauskas didn’t go on a rampage through the media and if the media didn’t continually sink his value then we would be in a better position in terms of compensation for Brown.

I know this reference has been done to death, but the fact that even after his poor year this year (missing half of it) he has still kick the 2nd most goals over the last 4 years. A mid second round pick (looks likely at best) for that output is absolutely bonkers.

I would take Brown everyday of the week over Saad, but that’s just me. I understand it has played out this way and Brown’s value has diminished, but Saad potentially being worth a top 10 pick and Brown being worth a mid 2nd at best is also bonkers.

Unfortunately it has played out the way it has and we have to suck it up that we won’t get true value for Brown.

Brown is a one-dimensional lead up, mark, kick goal type forward. He's very good when the system caters to him but struggles otherwise. He applies very little forward pressure and isn't good when the ball hits the deck. He's not agile around the ground or dominant in the air and is limited to playing inside 50m which limits the game plan his team can employ (only really works with quick ball movement which is risky).

He kicked as many goals as he did for us because of the ridiculous amount of times he was targeted compared to the rest of the the comp.

Cameron regularly roams higher up the ground and can play as a link between the 50's. In addition to this he's very dangerous inside 50m due to his athletic ability in the air and when the ball hits the ground.

I wouldn't say he's particularly bad at those things you mentioned, when compared to his peers, and disagree about how he's limited to playing inside 50. However his negatives make for a ****ing awful combination when you add in a gameplan that doesn't play to his strengths, and as Snake says that looks to be where we're headed. It's the same reason I'm more or less fine with shipping him off: He's the best at what he does, but to get him performing at that level you need to cater to his style. I'd personally prefer a more generic but versatile contested KPF, IMO it simply offers you more viable gameplans and options going forward.

Shits me that we won't get near what I think his 'true' value is, but the situation is what it is. Wish him the best, hope we can get some good currency from Melbourne, and move on.

If we trade the best pick we’ve had since Daniel Wells for two later firsts, then we deserve to be lambasted by all and sundry.
