The only effective way of dealing with * would be for every club to choke them off with no deals for at least a year.

A trade embargo if you will.

Since clubs keep getting drawn to the Dodo siren calls and smashing on the rocks, unfortunately this won't occur, clubs will keep reinforcing Dodo's sense of worth and the parade will continue on.

No chance Hawthorn does that. Zero.

I'd offer 2 + 2021 second for 2020 + 2021 firsts.

I agree it is a long shot but I Would only be dealing with clubs where we maintain a pick in the top 5 this year and pick up a first round for next year.

It would also be a lot more fun death riding Hawthorn.

Yeah cool - fingers crossed but same principles apply, opportunities pop up and its on!! We didnt expect Stephens either, that could alter our pick targets and major unknown is how desperate another club may be to get pick two and offer something worth considering that may improve our hand.

Either way we should end up bring in some good picks.

Live picking will be key too

lets say Mcdonald is available at 2 - no pick swap if we want him.

If he is goon , it may open up options to quickly swap down a little and secure our 2nd and 3rd priorities.

It must be hard core on the day.

Yes be very lively on the night.... what about this scenario, if we keep pick 2 which I'm hoping for and bid on Campbell.... syd will then want to swap out their pick otherwise it will be gobbled up for when they match.... it would be perfect for us to grab that too then we can get both Hollands and lmac but we would have to give over our first rd next yr or syd may not want to trade with us having just wrecked their plans of getting two top ten picks..... ess wouldn't want it unless they were guaranteed of lmac and we still have our pick to come... so IF we aren't going him ie lmac do we then swap our two out for 6 and 7 and get back in first rd next yr with * first which should be better than ours in theory.... so we then have 3 6 and 7

Dodoro has been there what 10 years? longer?

and in that time has compiled a list that has won 0 finals.

0.

for a bloke that wins trade week he hasn't exactly shot the lights out with having a list that can contend.

in their good years they struggle to make finals.

I am all for never trading with him either BTW

I agree and I have no love for the bloke or argument that he builds great lists.

Only that he is a used car salesman~dodgy real estate agent who happens to be employed in football and if you think you ever walk away having fleeced him - you just got done even worse than you imagine.

Let's be honest, if he was available to us to broker our deals you'd use him every day of the week.

Wonder what he'd have extracted out of a Ben Brown trade had BBB been a * player?

He would have extracted no different to what we did as the simple truth is there was no mkt for BBB

The only other option to keeping #2 is a godfather offer from Gold Coast which would include #5 and their 1st next year as well as LOTS of change

We're then still guaranteed one of McDonald, Hollands, DGB, Phillips or Thilthorpe.

I think this is all contingent on whether we want McDonald or not as I can see any of the other four at #5

If we want McDonald then no point discussing it, #2 it is

That sounds crazy but it just might work.

Our equal best pick in history and we want to contemplate trading with the most dominant trader in the league?

I keep getting shouted down but judging Dodoro on his negotation only (not his list management) he consistently rips clubs off.

He intimidated Brisbane into a top 10 return, he intimidiated Carlton into a top 10 return and despite McCartney's pointless rant he took Caldwell for sweet FA too.

I do not want us getting into a street fight with some hobo with nothing to lose.

I agree KC.

I dislike Dodo as much as anyone. Most List Managers trade ideally for "Win-Win". He trades for "Win-Loss".

The fact that we would even entertain trading our most valuable draft commodity in 30 years with him, of all List Managers, is just bizarre.

At this point, the Essendon Pick 2 link seems to be largely media driven.

We're united on this one mate. Both pick 2 and the Dodo.

They ( * ) must be getting this dialogue into the media.

Dodoro and Finnigan are sitting together waiting for other staff from both clubs to join them.

Finnigan says as an aside "who knows, maybe picks 7 and 8 are worth more than pick 2?"..

..Dodoro looks left then right, leans forward and says softly "mate, I said the same thing and everyone shouted me down and I've been in this caper for 2 decades. They reckon I'll get sacked for doing this trade but I can see a clear win-win. You obviously know your stuff champ."

As he makes the comment Dodo happens to pat Finnigan on the arm and immediately stops mid action exclaiming "Mate! You workout or something? You like a bodybuilder or MMA fighter or something?"

Finnigan is now all softened and mentally pliable as Dodoro smiles politely as everyone else joins them knowing he's already got a vote at the North table.

Pykie has been pushing this on, including all of GC's draft hand for 2020 as they only have the list space for one pick given they are getting some players for free via their concessions. It may require a swap of picks for 2021 as well, but we would get likely one of DGB or Phillips, 27, 37 and next years first for #2. We would have all up 5, 11, 27, 30, 37, 39 in this years draft and could look to trade up to grab Collingwood's 14 or 16, one of which is highly likely to go on a bid for their NGA Reef McInnis. So maybe something like 5, 11, 16, 27 and 39 in this draft, and 2 first rounders next year.

I just have this enormous confidence that these guys will pick the best player. And if they reckon that's a bloke currently projected to go at 7, then I'll celebrate us trading out of pick 2 for extra chips.

Maybe it's blind optimism, but I just reckon they've got their sh*t together.
Completely agree, OP. Despite being hesitant initially, after all the chat and moves during the trade period, I've never been this confident in a North list management team.

Although, now I think about it, after Joyce and co that might just be a case of coming from low expectations.

Or use some of those second rounders to grab Collingwood's 2021 R1 pick which they will get rid of by the end of the draft.

Watching a young developing side in the knowledge we are holding 3 x R1 picks at the end of the year will only add to the resurgence with fans imo.

Suspect Collingwood will try and package 16 with their 2021 first to try and move up the draft, rather than trading it for lower picks.

Correct, we have #11.

They also have absolutely no points after their other picks, at the moment they will go into deficit if they pick up 2 players before McInnes.

Having a really strong R1 hand for next years draft and we will absolutely slay it.

3 R1 picks in front of 3 Bailey Scottesque F/S selections that drag us forward from later picks. So we are upgrading picks in the 50s to picks in the 20s or 30s.

Shrewd pick trades this year, like the ones you outlined to both Collingwood and Gold Coast will accelerate the reshaping of the face of the club.

I reckon they'd be eyeing off one of the * picks. Either that or Adelaide, who hold GWS's first (9) plus 22, 23 and 40.

Definitely worth asking about though.
