Tarantos average game in 2019 as a 21 year old was 27 disposals, 5.2 clearances. Gresham could only dream about those numbers. Yeah, stats are not everything but you throw in the guy has elite disposal and they have to mean something.
Wouldn't say Taranto has elite number's & you are forgetting how good a small forward is 'The Gresh'

I think Gresham has played his best footy close to goal. He looked on track to be something pretty special there, he's a good but not elite mid. Ideally he plays a mix. Billings probably early on looked great closer to goal but then started to get psyched out with his set shot conversion.
In our most successful season to date since drafted, Billings’ impact has been 11 goals and 19 disposals.. respectable but when you really look into it, he is playing a free role picking up easy possesions in the backline, but he doesn’t have hurt factor doing that role.. often just pick the easy side way kick without breaking the line..even his kicking is suspect under no pressure. To get Taranto or/and Caldwell, we would need to give up something.

Pick 14 + 1 out of Billings, Gresham for both of Taranto and Caldwell. You would trade Billings, but I think GWS will ask for Gresham as they held previous interest before. If that’s the case, then you would do the deal, you get 1 ready made inside mid, + young gun mid (probably matching Gresham’s level in the future). So it will be a win, win.

We’re Not trading Billings or Gresham. defeats the purpose of brining in top talent in the right age bracket if you’re going to throw it away to get it. Yes they can be frustrating but be realistic, it’s not happening nuffies.

It’s a obviously a long shot but still possible...if they are willing to trade I’d imagine we would start by offering this years and next years firsts but I think they will want stake knives too due the picks both being in the teens most likely and this years draft also fairly comprised.

I would say the first thing we would offer would be a Webster, Roberton or Carlisle due to them just losing Shaw, Williams and corr.

Are they elite numbers - getting very close - and remember he was 21. Maybe Bontimpelli, Martin had better seasons as 21 year olds? But Taranto had those numbers in the runner up team and won their BnF as a 21 year old. Not sure how you do much better than that.

I

No one has said it is happening. It's a wild hypothetical. Don't panic it is just a BF discussion.

Taranto does not have elite disposal.

Kicks @ 48% efficiency in 2018 and 2019, 43% this year. Important to note he kicks a lot more than he handballs though whereas in our side I’d expect him to handball more to Hill, Billings etc rather than somehow being the designated kicker that his stats suggest he is at GWS (they lack outside runners). Last year in his 721 disposal year, 431 kicks/290 handballs. Surely we’d aim to get him at a more 50/50 split with us so that his kicks are mostly clearances and deep 50 entries rather then trying to pull off kicks outside of his ability.

Compare Taranto’s ~48% kicking efficiency to Gresham’s ~52% this year who gets bagged for his kicking on here.

Let’s not pretend Taranto is perfect, we should all prepare him to butcher it at times based on these numbers. But if utilised properly in almost a pure inside role with Steele as the bulls I suspect his kicking efficiency would lift up a bit to where most of the other inside mids sit, and his benefits would far outweigh the negatives due to his strong contested and clearance work.

Nice to dream mate but no way would they do that deal , a deal has to be somewhat fair to both parties you know

I think an ideal scenario would be getting Taranto for 2X1sts with a 2nd coming back, then flip that 2nd + Ross for Brayshaw,

effectively turning our 2X1sts into Taranto and Brayshaw, if Brayshaw gets back to the 2018 form, makes our midfield one of the best in the comp for many years to come with a starting mid of Steele, Taranto, Brayshaw and Ryder/Marshall ruck

Just checked, Martin and Bontimpelli numbers were not remotely close to Tarantos at 21 although Bont did kick a lot more goals

Those three dont have a lot of currency though , maybe they are the steak knives

Don't know where you get that. His career efficiency is 61.9%?

I think Carlisle has potential currency for some teams. He is a good player and could have immediate impact. There would be a couple of teams out there that I reckon would cough up a second rounder for him.

You also have to factor into this draft that 18 of the top 40 draftees are tied to clubs via father son or academies and there is little exposed form, given the Victorian kids did not play this year. It is both a hugely compromised draft and in some ways a lot of unknowns about the kids in it. A player who is potentially an immediate fix might be more attractive to trade picks with than in previous years.

Someone mentioned Billings had a get-out clause in his contract if we didn't make finals.
Does anyone know if this is correct?
Makes me wonder how prevalent is this type of clause in player contracts?
Also if true, does not sit particularly well with me but perhaps that is just naivety.

Ronke is 6ft. 183cm, not sure Higgins has starred as a midfielder yet. He started as a small forward.
I think we're talking about different Higgins.

We've been linked to, and I've been referring too, Shaun Higgins I think you're talking about Jack from Richmond?

I can't see a "get out" clause being included in a contract as short as Billings. Maybe in a 7 year contract, but not a 2 year contract.
