In our most successful season to date since drafted, Billings’ impact has been 11 goals and 19 disposals.. respectable but when you really look into it, he is playing a free role picking up easy possesions in the backline, but he doesn’t have hurt factor doing that role.. often just pick the easy side way kick without breaking the line..even his kicking is suspect under no pressure. To get Taranto or/and Caldwell, we would need to give up something.

Pick 14 + 1 out of Billings, Gresham for both of Taranto and Caldwell. You would trade Billings, but I think GWS will ask for Gresham as they held previous interest before. If that’s the case, then you would do the deal, you get 1 ready made inside mid, + young gun mid (probably matching Gresham’s level in the future). So it will be a win, win.
No need to trade anyone

I agree, but that then does mean we still have to find a dependable defensive stopper? Could Dmac be as good as Paton and Geary have been at that? Who else would work there? Connolly? Hind? Phillips? Byrnes?

Webster has been pretty solid as a stopper before. Not sure about his future though with his age and constant injury issues though.

I understand when i first came on here i stated Jye was keen to come to the club, and that was certainly the case at the time as our offer far outweighed the one from GWS . But today i have been told after returning to Sydney JC has informed us this arvo of his current intentions to stay at the giants. We threw a deal at him which in totality was upwards of 3m over 5 years. Clearly a disappointing result on face value but their will be advantages down the track with that money being spent equally and efficiently on our current crop of rising stars. Retention is going to be crucial to our success in the future.
In more positive news, Benny Paton will sign his deal shortly, Higgins is firmly in play, and Lethers, Gubby and the banker are doing their best to improve the list for next year and beyond. 3 days away from our first finals win in 10 years! can't wait.
*when the facts change, i am happy to report them, don't shoot the messenger*
Oh well. Taranto it is then!

Hang on...
Could JC really just be Jeremy Cameron and this is just a play on words?

Matt Bain, Taranto's manager, laughed off the suggestion that the former number two pick, who was the Giants' best and fairest winner last year, could be moving.

"There's zero truth in it. It will not be happening. He signed last year until the end of 2022 and he loves the club, he loves it up there. Tim Taranto is not leaving," said Bain.
Ok ,now how is Heeney progressing ?

Some of the people on here are willing to give up Gresham and a pick for Taranto. I have never seen him play a very good game yet. Gresham has played quite a few.
Taranto is being over valued while Gresh is being under valued.

Agree I wouldn’t trade Gresham but seriously Taranto won the best and fairest last year at 21 in a team that made the grand final. I’d suggest he’s played a few decent games.

Atleast he hasn’t denied Caldwell leaving at any stage.

I believe Matt Bain is also Caldwells manager.

What did we get for Stanley, and what did we do with it?

Stanley + pick 60 for pick 21 from Geelong. We took Hugh Goddard at 21, Daniel Mackenzie at 22. What a horror show. Took Paddy at #1 that year, who would have guessed that Lonie at pick 41 would be our best pick of the year?

As mentioned earlier our best picks that draft were Steele, butler and Howard. Nailed it.

This is where stats don't tell the full story...

all Aus form until rnd 10 on a wing, moves inside in Ross's absence, looks great in there too. BOG against GC in a close win.

ross comes back in, JB moves out and gets moved around, loses touch, nearly wins game off own boot against lions. Struggles for continuity ever since.

you don't trade a top 5 player at the club in the leadership group. He's a gun

If we did this we would have the same problem as Melbourne. All grunt and no speed or class.
I think an ideal scenario would be getting Taranto for 2X1sts with a 2nd coming back, then flip that 2nd + Ross for Brayshaw,

effectively turning our 2X1sts into Taranto and Brayshaw, if Brayshaw gets back to the 2018 form, makes our midfield one of the best in the comp for many years to come with a starting mid of Steele, Taranto, Brayshaw and Ryder/Marshall ruck

That theory doesn't work in this case because Taranto is already contacted so it won't affect how much Caldwell would get paid at GWS.
Yeah I trust Morris more than most with saints info. Wasn’t he our website guy a few years ago? Probably still has contacts within the club.

The whole Taranto/Caldwell play by us has to simply be to drive up interest/price in one in the hope that another will fall loose. And I don’t think we mind which one falls loose. It’s a smart play, I wonder if it’ll work.

That’s why I said price/interest. Price for Caldwell, interest for Taranto (May end up needing to plan on offering an extension on more money than they’d prefer knowing interest from us is strong for example).

Nonetheless if another club picked up Taranto’s contract they would have Taranto’s money to split amongst other players i.e Caldwell. Depends what you believe is the Giants salary cap situation. Some have reported they’re bursting, leaving open the possibility of trading someone who’s contracted like Taranto or possibly being restricted on what they pay Caldwell.

Cameron also is yet to indicate whether he’s leaving or not. Kelly comes “out of contract” next year but I believe has the option to trigger a further 7 years on big money etc.

None of us know for sure but the GWS cap and their spread of talent is definitely a curious case and apples are consistently falling out.

Just for a point of difference, I think we need a big-bodied mid - they're not that easy to find but I wouldn't be unhappy with Will Brodie. Has has some nice stats 2019 in particular and may be beneficial in protecting our other mids extending their careers.
