FB: Long Howard Paton

C: Hill Steele Battle
HF: Billings Membrey Gresham
FF: Butler King (Ryder)
R: Marshall Jones Clark
I: Ross Sinclair (Hanneberry) (geary)

I reckon thats our best 22 for the next 5 years and we should be playing finals. (if u dont like my battle wing just swap him with billings)
That is a young team and all have room for self improvement as well as improved team chemistry.

The guys bracketed are obviously the old guys, and i could add Ross in there although he should be good to play another 3/4 years.
So these are the Positions I think we most NEED to look at recruiting.

Obviously MIDS MIDS MIDS can never have too many especially if the can go fwd.
DO we have some good ones coming up in Bytel and Byrnes? get some more anyway, best available, our depth there was exposed this year.

If Ryder only has a year or 2 left we need a backup plan.
i think most were against the ryder experiment taking Romas time but he has been a revalation!
If we could get that 2 metre peter he might be a good option to start FWD and chop out in the ruck?

I think a CHB needs to be top of our priority list.
Did we win any games big Jake was out?
missed him last night.
im guessing Clav and Austin arent up to it? otherwise they would have played in his absence?
If we cant Get someone as good or better than Jake as a long term replacement, we at least need a quality role player incase Jake or Dougs are injured next year.

If the club want a cheap option as a forward to help protect King.
2MP would be cheap and easily replaced in a couple of years when we have 2 Kings.
Not that i am saying i want him but he would be cheaper than all other tall forwards that have been mentioned.

He's doesn't look up to it unfortunately. He looks like he's one of those guys who went too high in the draft and will get lots of time because of it.

I would seriously be looking at Bruest too

Yuck no.

The whole point of what ratts seems to be saying is that we are sorted for small forwards already- butts, gresh and billings play closer to home than this year and we bring in real midfielders to fill their midfield time.

(And I reckon guys like sinclair, kent, lonie are potentially gone all together)

"Mids, mids, mids" doesn't mean guys that can 'run through the middle'- i reckon we are going for a reset where instead of a team of jack of all trades- we're going to have far more specialist mids and non tall forwards.

Our 'specialist' non tall fwds (butts, gresh, billings) will still play a bit of midfield- but not much, just enough to give guys like steele a rest or a good matchup in the fwd line.

And if we keep guys like sinclair and kent they will be told- you're either a 20possies a week mid or a 1 goal+ a week small forward.
Take your pick- no more of this a bit of both, but really neither business.

As much as our traded n guys have helped this year,

Ryder Butler the most
Doogs and Jones next
Hill

Perhaps the biggest improvement came from the impact of some our drafted players,

Coff/Clark/Pato/Wilkie, Roma, Winx,
Yep, getting missed big time externally.
a commentator the other day called us a bunch of role players.

Next year is a contract year from Billings.
He’s going to play unreal as usual.
Keep him and play him forward 75% of the time and a run through the middle at times like we did in 2017.

He had 60 (!!!) shots on goal that year but kicked 23.36 (smh lol) and god know how many oof/kicks that came short.

His best role is him as the high half forward that can run in and finish on goal.
I agree. I just want him in the front half of the ground. Either kicking it to the forwards or getting inside 50 and having shots himself.
Similar with Gresh. Put him in the forward 50 with some bursts in the centre.

other guys Sinclair, Long and Gresham too. Its important because we can't just be a team of recycled players, we need our own guys too develop their own identity and drive us forward.

Lastly, I still have faith that Clark, Bytel could become really important second or even a grade mids to support Steele.

How much is stacks? 800k.

The actual number doesn't matter- because current contracts can always be juggled around with revisions to either front or backload them to fit new recruits in.

FYI it's actually basically impossible for any team to literally have 800k spare in their salary cap.
The difference between paying the 95% salary cap minimum and to 100% salary cap maximum is only about 600k.

But of course with proper accounting and planning, anything is possible.

For instance the tigers won a flag and of course had one of, if not the tightest cap in the comp- didn't stop them signing tom lynch on circa a million bucks a year.

If you are prepared to offer long contracts to guys you want to trade in, salary cap space is fairly irrelevant unless your trying to sign multiple stars all at once.

Billings has been very vanilla as a wingman this year, barring ONE game in round 2 against the dogs. I've become impatient with his propensity to play like a gun in seasioms where he is out of contract. I've also become frustrated that he seems not to stand up on big games.

I believe he is best used leading up from half forward where can wheel on his left and guide the ball to a leading forward. He's also a pretty good overhead mark when he's in form. But he is also not quick and not particularly great around the contest, so we need to maximise his strengths and mitigate his weaknesses.

I raised this ages ago. He’s the one I would target. Bruest would kick a bundle of goals scavenging around King’s feet.

How old is he, he seems to have been around since the dinosaurs.
