will be interesting watching their careers Chris - is Jack a bit more gifted athletically? Nathan sometimes looks awkward in his kicking?

Nathan O’Driscoll (Noddy) is a raking left foot but his right is a bit pokey, and most of the vision I’ve seen shows his right foot kicking (so yeh it looks awkward ) left foot is a weapon like Young’s.

Recent footage shows his right foot is improving but nothing like the cannon he has in his left boot!

I'm pretty sure that if he had a left peg like Young he would be well and truly in the top 5 mix given his other attributes.

Interesting discussion point. Bell was pretty adamant in 36+6.

Plan A would be that our second pick is used before bids on either Walker/Weatern.

Plan B that our third bid is between bids (ie late 30’s to mid 40’s).

If Plan B eventuates and no bid comes o Western when fourth and final selections comes then we will weigh up who is on the board as compared to Western. Then as you say if a late bid (which would seem unlikely was to come on Western) then hopefully there is flexibility in our plans and we instead go 37+5. Even better still Western gets looked over and we add him as a cat b rookie.
It’s highly likely that Walker will have a bid before our pick 32.

Western might even go before 32 but I really don’t have a good read on that.

Therefore, I wouldnt want 2 picks late in draft due to flexibility. Especially if main list sizes reduce again next year.

Kicking on your opposite side generally when you are in trouble.

A left foot kick is always handy to have.

He has a left peg like Young! But his right foot is pokey. Google is your friend if you choose to use it!

I've seen some of his work. A few highlights doesn't mean he kicks as well as Young. Go watch Suban's highlights.

Zero chance he kicks as well as Young (including decision making) otherwise he would go top 5.

I’d say O’Driscoll is the better athlete overall and perhaps more ready made. Better distance on his kicks. Carroll is more versatile, has greater scope and has better agility in close. Also generally cleaner with his disposal.

A Dangerfield inside mid (burst speed) with endurance And an elite half back kick. If that player walks into our club Wednesday for a mid teens pick and his sister already plays at the club....

.... someone is going to ask how we hid him

Is that you Damian Barrett?

We are nearing the finish line in terms of the draft. In recent years the club has done well scouting talent, which is essential in a rebuild. The pandemic is a major factor limiting development and exposure of players, especially Victorians.

How confident are you guys that we have the resources in place to do well?

Can clubs feel confident in recruiting taller players (like Cox) who typically display significant development in their draft years

Is the best strategy to prefer players who have managed some exposure this year, notably WA and SA players?

My personal view is that how the draft rankings sit and given the issues of under exposure of Victorian players it is a good draft to actively prefer the likes of O’Driscoll, Carroll, Chapman, Cook, Poulter, Powell and Neale. We can use any of those names on our list, Neale being the only one who seems beyond the limit of our 2nd pick at this stage.

I expect all clubs to value exposed development, and if our scouting sees real value in a the additional risk of selecting a player who has skipped a year of development I have faith in their talent evaluation. But there is clear risk with that. We can see it in the different ranking fortunes of O’Driscoll and MacDonald this year, each heading in different directions. But we haven’t been able to make the assessment for the likes of Cox or Bruhn for example.

Can see WC taking Brockman at their pick.

Hunter has a lot of similarities to Oscar Allen in that he performed well in the ruck in the colts even though being well undersized. He's just missing the forward experience that Allen got in his final year but his skills are great and I'd love him in the rookie draft as a developing KF prospect.
