Logan McDonald would definitely be someone we are interested in you would think. We have drafted plenty of mids in the last few drafts so i would like us to see add some top end KPF talent to the club, especially considering he is from WA. Obviously DGB would come under consideration as well with our injury concerns in the KPD department. Either way i would like us to either go McDonald as the KPF, DGB as the KPD or Zane Trew as the midfielder, obviously very early days though! It would be good if we could somehow use our second pick from Melbourne to some how get bakc in to the draft in the teens somewhere.

Me, I would go the forward.Good, natural forwards are hard to come by

I agree - he seems to be projecting like a Josh Kennedy type. If the eagles had early picks this year they would be loading up on WA talent and we need to do the same with them out of the picture. Elite key forwards are very hard to come by and given he is from WA, that’s even more reason to go hard for him. I’d nearly have him ahead of DGB on a needs basis right now. We do need at least one quality midfielder too though. Melbourne losing a few more games would make our second pick look more attractive.
Hard to see us beating Geelong or the pies with the current injury list. We could well be 2-7 in a couple of weeks. Hawthorn and Carlton will be more beatable though.

We will leave him for the eagles or geelong as per normal then..

Lobb, Hamling, Tabs are 27yrs old.
Hogan, APearce are 25yrs old.
Darcy, Meek, Logue, Cox are 22yrs old.

Our spine would be sorted for the next 5yrs minimum if half of them weren't perennially injured.

Fyfe and Walters are still our best 2 mids and are both 29yrs old this year. Are we confident in Brayshaw, Cerra, Tucker and Serong taking over the reigns?

After a loss everything seems so dire. Hard to judge the list without emotion.

I think there are more questions to ask there though:
- Do you think Hogan and Tabs are our long term KPF answer?
- Will Pearce ever get a decent run at it?
- Is Cox a defender or a forward?

Either eay i think we seem to have a lot more reliable depth in the midfield department than we do in the KPP department. From your list of mids there you are also missing Acres/Aish/Frederick/Henry/Valente, obviously some of these are unproven however a lot more choices than what we have in KPP selections.

Taberner is not the answer - he is a football Cyborg....
Clunk football - turnover football - absolute robot. If he ain’t got it now, he will never have it.
Our leading goal scorer for the year is not the problem. 26 inside 50's for a game is not exactly a great environment for a KPF.

Only 4 KPF's in the comp have kicked more goals than him.

Dixon - 14 goals
Cameron - 13 goals
B King - 12 goals
Mihocek - 12 goals
Taberner - 11 goals
Kennedy - 11 goals
Hawkins - 11 goals
Lynch - 11 goals

The team will never be full of stars. At best you hope for 5-6 A grade players and the rest need to be average/above average players. Tabs isn't going to be a star, but he's more than serviceable. Hogan is meant to be our star forward and Lobb our topline ruck/fwd. Unfortunately Tabs is outperforming both of them.

As a mid ODriscoll would want to improve his output. Only 13 touches....

Coming off an injury, expect that output to improve in the coming weeks

WAFL colts feature player of the week: Claremont and Fremantle Next Generation Academy midfielder Joel Western
Headshot of Jordan McArdle

Jordan McArdleThe West Australian
Joel Western started the new colts season like he finished the last.
The smooth-moving Claremont colts premiership midfielder starred in his team’s upset win over Subiaco at Leederville Oval on Saturday.
From the opening bounce, Western looked on.
It was an all-round performance from the Fremantle Next Generation Academy product, who won plenty of clearances and also showcased his pace on the outside.
He was so clean out of congestion and didn’t need much space to hit targets by foot.
The 17-year-old finished with a game-high 29 possessions to go with four tackles and a goal in a complete performance.
His second-quarter goal was one of the highlights of his game, converting a holding-the-ball free-kick after nailing a brilliant tackle inside 50.
Western is one of WA’s top midfield draft prospects alongside Perth’s Nathan O’Driscoll, East Fremantle’s Brandon Walker and Swan Districts’ Zane Trew.
He trained with the Tigers’ senior midfield group during the pre-season, learning from Sandover medallists and ex-AFL players Kane Mitchell and Jye Bolton.
He is in league coach Darren Harris’ plans for a debut at some point this season.
Western qualifies for Fremantle’s NGA program because of the Singaporean heritage and has been involved for three years, forming a close bond with coach Tendai Mzungu.
It means the Dockers get first crack at him in the draft, but bids might come early if he keeps putting together performances like this.

Apparently there is a highlights video to go along with the article?

Still think a bid will come much earlier than many think for Joel - remember how early the Henry bid was? The kid is a gun - absolute lightning quick and he has exactly the right work ethic. He is tiny but he is quickly developing his versatility - can play from half back through half forward - was mostly on the outside last year but his inside work is looking better all the time - plus his cleverness around goals - tick tick tick. He will be on Freo's list, nothing surer, just like with Henry same time last year. Suspect we use him as a small forward to start with - he's already been training a bit with Sonny. Sturt, Rick (Minairo), Henry and Western (alongside Sonny) could be quite an upgrade on the speed and skills from our smalls forward of centre than we are currently used to over the coming years.

Some older vids (from earlier this year) worth watching if you haven't seen them...

Yeah but the problem is he should be leading the coleman by a good stretch if he actually kicked all the easy close range set shots/not play on in the goal square and get tackled.

But cos he clunks it so well he takes opportunities away from others who might kick straighter.

If he sorted out his mental side of the game he could be a beast but he is rapidly running out of time...

The Henry bid by Carlton was purely to buy time to sort out some other deal. The unlucky part is that they chose Henry rather than Green to bid on.

For sure but you also don't bid unless a player is arguably in the ball park worth wise. I don't see a bid coming in Round 1 for Joel but those thinking he'll still be on the board in Round 4 or as an NGA Cat B are kidding themselves if he continues playing games - glad to hear he'll be thrown into League level to get a taste at some point.

Another to watch is Isiah Winder who I think could fly up the draft order over the coming months if he continues developing. Played in the GF for Peel against Western's Claremont last year (if you want to see a bit of him) but we will see him on ball for Peel colts more this season - had 32d and 7 tackles on the weekend.

Logan McDonald looks the goods and would not be upset at all if he was our first pick. But there is a lot of top end talent from all over the country that could slot into our team in almost any position. I'm not as convinced about O'Driscoll personally, I'd probably prefer Trew and there are plenty of non-WA mids who I have higher up than these two if we are going to spend an early(ish) pick on a mid.

I Think we would have to consider someone like Tilthorpe if they are available as he can play forward, ruck or even on a wing
