Both WA and SA destroyed both Vic teams in the 16's champs 2 years ago, but both Vic teams have more nominations than WA and SA.
SA have 20 players which is decent. I was expecting a few more from WA.

You look back at that u16s and the majority of the All Australian team were from SA and WA - especially all the key roles. McDonald and Grainger-Barrass at either end, Trew and O'Driscoll in the middle, plus Walker for WA. SA with another 5 players including Tilthorpe in the ruck. And then Schofield who was WA but now SA. Tasmania did pretty well with 3 representatives! And NT with one. Both Vic Metro and Vic Country only had 2 players each.

Think it is a good draft for talls and WA has two of the best and SA has one of the best as well.

Chapman in WP’s league squad.
Well deserved.

We might see McDonald v Grainger-Barrass this weekend :)

Was hoping Trew might play against O'Driscoll as well but looks like Zane is playing Colts.

SD v Perth is being televised on 7 - so we'll get to see WA's three top prospects all playing - could have been top 4 prospects :(

Although it’s symbolic to draft some of our NGA lads, it’s not a given, that we will.

Already Carter and Izzy Butters have been released by the Club.

Depending on when a bid comes, the club may decide to pass on the option, depending on where they rate them in the scheme of the Draft as a whole and list requirements.

If no bid comes then the Club needs to determine if it puts them on the Rookie B list. Although only so many players are allowed on the B list, 3 if I remember correctly. Currently Leno Thomas is on the list with Carter and Butters being delisted.

Currently the club has 2 early selections in the draft, with our 3rd and 4th round picks being traded out last year.

We may be involved in a few trades that provide a bit of currency re picks in the latter draft rounds or we could go into carry over points for next year if we decide to match any bids.

The big shadow in the closet however is the AFL list size shuffle and it’s impact on this years Draft.

Western and Brandon are a lot better performed and rated than Butters, Leno or Carter. Pretty sure both were in the WA u18 squad last year and Brandon played in the curtain raiser game last year.

I am sure there is a limit (clearly unlikely to match top 10 bids for either) but I'll eat my hat if we don't take both if they get bids around where expected.

Pretty sure Carter was a lot higher rated than Butters and Thomas. He was state 18s twice and was, from memory, some chance to attract a bid, and there was a element of surprise when he got through to a Cat B listing.
It's just inference, but it's possible we now know why.

People were talking about Carter as a first round pick on here back in 2018!

If memory serves (it doesn't usually) Carter came into his 18th year rated reasonably high (2nd/3rd chance) but by the end of the year was nowhere near it. We weren't expecting a bid before 50.

You can pretty much ignore every Freo BF fan's view on our academy prospects (except Chris25). People on here already have us trading out our first next year because Motlop (who isn't even playing Colts) kicked a few bags in landslide wins at school. Fair to say many get WAY ahead of themselves here.

The AFL has revealed which young guns will take part in the Draft Combines, which will be state-based because of COVID-19. See the full list AFL and AFLW Draft prospects who will test in each state.
Because of the COVID-19 situation in Victoria - which has resulted in recruiters not able to see any prospects play in 2020 - the Combines will be state based ahead of one of the most intriguing drafts in history.
The Combines will kick off this month with Tasmania in the week beginning September 21 while the Victorian edition is still to be confirmed as the AFL keeps an eye on State Government restrictions.
Western Bulldogs Next Generation Academy prospect Jamarra Ugle-Hagan of the Oakleigh Chargers is widely considered as the best prospect in this year’s Draft crop and has been likened to Lance Franklin.
Murray Bushrangers’ Elijah Hollands is also highly rated as is West Adelaide’s Riley Thilthorpe.

Included in the AFL’s Draft Combine nominees is Oakleigh’s Maurice Rioli Jr, the son of the late Richmond and South Fremantle champion Maurice Rioli Sr, and cousin of current Tiger Daniel Rioli.

After starring for AFLNT club St Mary’s over summer Maurice Jr has been labelled as the potential best of the Rioli’s and could be selected by Richmond as a father-son pick and Essendon via the NGA.

Fremantle can also take him as a father-son choice.

AFL Talent Ambassador Kevin Sheehan said all the data from the prospects would be available to clubs at the conclusion of each state-based Combine.

“The 2020 version of the NAB Draft Combine will look a little different, but it will provide all AFLW and AFL clubs a chance to assess players on their fitness, skills and agility. Clubs are able to conduct one-on-one interviews with all players at the Draft Combine either in person or digitally,” he said.

On top of the state-based Combines the AFL will also run “All-Star” matches within states and territories to make up for the lack of an Under-18 National Championship.

Matches will occur in each state and territory and will comprise of local talent competing in teams selected by respective state coaches to ensure girls and boys are provided with the best opportunity to showcase their skills and continue their football journey to the elite competition.

The AFL has also released the names of the 82 female players invited to the AFLW Draft Combines.

The list includes two father-daughter eligible players: Alice Burke, daughter of St Kilda champion, and Bulldogs AFLW coach, Nathan Burke, and Tarni Brown, daughter of Collingwood premiership player Gavin Brown.

North Adelaide’s Ashleigh Woodland, who was previously on Melbourne’s AFLW list, and Georgia Nanscawen, previously listed with North Melbourne, headline the list of former AFLW listed-players looking for a second opportunity.

The list of state combine invites comes as the AFL continues to work through how its revamped Talent Pathway Program will look in 2021.

While recent reports suggested the NAB League season could be slashed to as few as eight games next year, the Herald Sun understands the AFL remains hopeful of retaining 2021 campaigns where the number of games played by boys and girls will be “consistent with prior years”.

Recruiters had expressed concern over plans to significantly cut back the NAB League competition, fearing private school footballers would be further advantaged over public school counterparts.

The AFL has committed to ensuring all future draftees be provided with the same level of medical, physical and off-field care as they received in previous years regardless of changes that are made.

The league has already confirmed NAB League coaches will be full-time positions for the first time in 2021 and will work across both the girls and boys programs to ensure the same opportunities for both genders.

every rioli is giving the tag of possibly the best. i’m sure dan rioli did and he’s nowhere near it

Hiding Alvarez by not going to the combine? Or is he just not that good? His stats seem pretty decent.

You can't hide players from going to the combine. If 5 clubs nominate you on their list of 50 you get an invite.
