he doesn't seem super fussed about it. Wants to be an engineer. But I'll let him know that some random bloke on BF says he won't be drafted.
Can’t he do both? Surely next year is still an option and can put 100% behind the unique opportunity of NGA in front of him? 1000 kids like him don’t have the same opportunity can start engineering a year later ?

I think Neale will become a ruck/forward or even a forward/ruck and I never subscribe to overlooking talent in the draft because of readiness. If it takes a few years to get totally up to AFL speed then so be it imo. We’re not contending in the next two or three anyway imo, so there’s no hurry.

If we’re still picking around 15 and have our heart set on a KF, then there will be a few options.

I don’t think we need to go mature age or ready to go, unless they’re going to be better than the youngsters or developing talls in 2022/23 when we should be contending.

Not contesting here but would Neale be any better than Wright....a lot don't seem to rate him but I do...except that maybe he has issues going on. Has not made sense to me why GCS are looking to let him go.

Wright would cost us more than Neale. And probably isn't going to come to play at Peel whereas Neale would be fine developing there. We can't play these guys alongside both Tabs and Lobb imo.

Speaking of Peel, Will Schofield is back.

Logue played forward a fair bit for SD. If we have Hamling and Pearce available we will have plenty of options. Just not sure we will go three talls anyway. Unless it's the Fyfe/Mundy type. Shame about Hogan though.

I've seen James once and now I'm an expert on him.

A young KF is a must. Trouble is, development takes a while and we need one now. Hogan out is a a disaster.

Mmm James is if I remember correctly an overage U18 colt and was the least impressive ruckman in the Allstar games.

Kalin Lane being the most impressive ruckman from my eye. And yes he is an overage U18 as well.

Neale wasn’t an overager and whilst not the best Ruckman knows where the sticks are. Being one year behind Mallard, James and Lane means he is starting from behind age, weight and development wise, but is probably ahead as a draftable prospect given his skill set.

No idea where the Solomon James luv comes from, nice guy but behind a few other big guys this draft.

As I said in my post, unless they’re better in a few years when we’re contending. The club recruiters are best placed to make the call on that comparison. I’d back the development of Neale personally.

Then of course, as wTG said, the cost has to be considered too in the case of Wright.

Worst case scenario for us would obviously be a Walker bid coming before our first pick, but what about second worst case scenario? Adelaide getting #2 as compo for Crouch, GWS not matching and getting another compo pick for Cameron. Suddenly our pick is pushed out to #17 and we don't even have a premiership to go with that...

1. Adelaide - Riley Thilthorpe
2. Adelaide (compo) - Logan McDonald
3. Western Bulldogs (bid) - Jamarra Ugle-Hagan
4. North Melbourne - Will Phillips
5. Sydney - Denver Grainger-Barass
6. Hawthorn - Elijah Hollands
7. Gold Coast - Zach Reid
8. Essendon - Tanner Bruhn
9. Port Adelaide (bid) - Lachie Jones
10. Essendon (compo) - Oliver Henry
11. Sydney (bid) - Braeden Campbell
12. Carlton - Archie Perkins
13. Adelaide - Nathan O'Driscoll
14. GWS (compo) - Heath Chapman
15. GWS (compo) - Jack Carroll
16. North Melbourne - Nikolas Cox
17. Fremantle -

Things will no doubt change depending on trades, but our spot would stay the same. On the board for us would be a bunch of South Australians (Brayden Cook, Caleb Poulter, Tom Powell, Kaine Baldwin), the next best remaining Victorians (Finlay Macrae, Eddie Ford) or going early on a West Australian (Shannon Neale, Zane Trew).

Who would you take?
That worst case scenario is quite possible by the looks of it.
I quite like Cook, Macrae and Ford from the little I have seen. Neale would probably be a good idea.

I'm definitely a Cook fan, I'd be considering him even if I was picking 5 spots earlier. Macrae and Ford would both be fine picks too.

I think there would be every chance of us going early on a tall if we like one though. I expect a Walker bid before our second pick and a Western bid to follow, so it could be our only chance to take a decent tall - depending on what we get in a Hogan trade of course (which I would anticipate being a mid to late second round pick).

Just shows how farcical the whole thing is really. So much for equalisation. Couldn’t believe the AFL handed Essendon pick 7 for a 3 year contract. It’s now a certainty Crouch will be pick 2. It’s also likely GWS will not match the Cameron as those Geelong picks they would be trading for are now sitting in the early 20s by the time Draft night rolls around. Not sure of your opinion Chris, but I’d love to see us get 2 selections in before a Walker bid, if we end up trading Hogan out? I feel like the talent from pick 7 to pick 22 or so is pretty even, and no one really knows with certainty who the best players are among this cohort. Having 2 selections in the bracket increases the chances of picking up an underrated talent.

I'm sure we'll have a really good idea of where the bids will come, I definitely agree having two live picks before then should be the goal - if we don't trade in any players.

I think there's a clear top 6 in this draft, followed by a group of about 5 players in that next tier. After that, it's fairly open between say 12 and 25.

If we’re picking at 16 or Cox would be perfect.
guy that big that moves like that and kicks beautifully off both feet could be really something
We will be lucky if he is available then. Both Essendon and Giants are losing tall forwards and pick before us. I think Callow or Neale are the talls most likely for us.

Chris what are your thoughts on Kaine Baldwin? Obviously he is a massive risk with his knee injuries, especially considering our history with injuries. Do you think we take the gamble on him with our first pick? He looks to have some serious talent from the small samples I have seen anyway.

Longmuir said they are looking for a forward /ruck. Just wondering if he fit into that category? Thought I saw him in the ruck at times last year. He can play just about everywhere else.
Cox is pretty skinny. Anything to do with ruck would be years away.

It’s an absolute joke is what it is.
Will it change?, no chance ..it remains the AFLs most favoured way of being able to directly manipulate clubs lists to suit their narrative

Yeah, but we are ok for now. I assume if we take him we will take the longer view and use him in other roles until he is ready. The good thing about him is we can utilise him elsewhere while he develops unlike previous selections of that type.

He is a risk. Injury wise, it would be a bigger risk than Georgiades who obviously went first round last year. But talk to anyone involved in SA football, and they'll tell you he would have been pushing Thilthorpe as the best prospect if it weren't for injuries. On talent, he would be far ahead of guys like Reid and Cox who are the best of the second tier talls in this draft.

I think he'll be more likely to go in the second round, to a team with plenty of other early picks.

If a bid came for Walker before our first would you match?

I reckon I probably would and then look to trade our second up a bit higher.
