So now that we've declared our favourites, none of whom Fremantle will select as per usual form lets throw out a few more names:

Matt Allison - 194cm Key Forward/Utility (Calder Cannons)

Liam McMahon - 194cm Key Forward (Northern Knights)

I think people know I’m keen on Baldwin

Interesting comparison here as well

Baldwin v DGB

I'd be more keen if I didn't think we needed to prioritise speed this draft (plus the whole knee reconstruction history at Freo). Our forward line is slow as treacle, adding more slow big guys isn't going to help that problem. Similarly our midfield needs an injection of speed. We'll certainly match bids on Walker and Western but I'd be very keen for us to pick up a tall forward/utility with some pace, perhaps even a couple.

Like Sam Sturt, or bigger?

I'd personally like a speedy genuine KPF on our list. I know most are obsessed with contested markers but we had 2 of the top 4 contested markers and Hogan and Fyfe aren't slouches either and we still hardly scored. Sturt, Henry, Western etc will help but think we need some quicker tall options moving forward as well.

Sounds like who I picked up for Melbourne in the BF Phantom - Fraser Rosman. 194cm third tall forward/outside mid. Ran a sub 6 second 2km at the combine, also top 10 in the sprint with 2.90 seconds. Good overhead and some x factor in the forward half. He's all raw potential at the moment, one of the Victorians who could have gone much higher if he played this year.

Guys like Matthew Allison and Liam Kolar would also fit that size/speed mix if we wanted a mid draft tall.

If we go tall in the first round, I wonder if we'd look at Brodie Lake as a versatile 185cm utility. Played with Michael Barlow in the NT, spent some time last year playing for Peel before then playing in the SANFL this year. So I'm sure we'd know him well. Won the agility test this year and top 10 sprint time. Has played half back, inside mid, outside mid and as a medium forward.

Also, I picked up Zavier Maher for Melbourne too but is another who could suit us with his speed/power combo - more if we were to trade up into the 20-30 range to get ahead of a bid.

Cal Twomey Today
Freo is in a good spot at pick 12. Will Phillips will be gone by then, but other midfielders such as Tom Powell and Finlay Macrae would be worth a look. Heath Chapman is another who could be too good to pass up despite not being an area of need for the Dockers.

Hi Guy's,

Sorry to intrude...

We are doing a Phantom Draft on the Blues Board and I have Fremantle

What are the needs of Freo's list or best available? (from the outside I would think KPF, Small Forward)
and What are the pick worth of your NGA players? (Walker, Western)

In my opinion, add wing and ruck/forward to your needs list, but agree with your others.

Walker is worth pick 31 give or take a few, and Western is worth about 43 give or take a few. But I’d match any bid within 10 or 12 of these. We have the points now.

I hope this helps but others will have better advice for you.

Good luck!

Carltons board doing a phantom draft. Looks like both walker and western will be picked earlier then expected...

If all the pundits want us to take a WA players so badly (despite only taking 2 with our last 7 first rounders) why can't they at least link us to Carroll or O'Driscoll? At least both of them make sense from a list balance POV.

Is Chapman really that much better than the other prospects 10-20? And if so how is he not getting selected earlier? I just don't get the love in.

I'm all for WA talent but wouldn't want to reach.

The pundits (The Worst and 6PM) are pretty clueless and just want to throw darts at us.

O'Driscoll isn't a need and Carroll won't go first round.

Chapman is a good choice. While he isn't a present need but when Hamling retires and Cox goes forward its a good medium term solution.

McDonald and DGB are out of reach.

If we were to get WA talent better to downgrade ie picks 12 and 32 to the demons for picks 18,19 and 50. https://www.draftguru.com.au/pick-value-calculator#12,32|18,19,50

That allow us to get either one or two of Carroll, O'Driscoll, and Trew.

Gives us picks 50,55,56 and 63 which will improve after the Ugle-Hagan and co bids.

What makes you so sure Carroll won’t go first round?

Was thinking the very same approach except no specific players just to get 2x 1st round picks in before Western bid.

Agree. Unless for some reason we are the only club to think Chapman is a top 5 pick, there are going to be other players with similar rankings who we should be taking instead.

Our backline is stacked for the present and future. The logic that Chapman is an OK choice because you draft for the future and he can replace a defender down the track is flawed. Our top players such as Fyfe, Mundy and Walters are much older than any defender (excluding Hill, who I prefer to remember as a wing/mid), and we are also lacking KPF depth. I'm going to spew if we pick any more defenders apart from Walker.

Thanks Scham :thumbsupv1:
Also how many Senior list spots do you have available for the draft?

They do one every year...
Suppose it beats 115 pages, dreaming about getting Cripps :eekv1:
As opposed to the 30 threads of 300+ pages each around Oliver?
😛😋😜

The joke went right over your head. I was just taking the piss about you guys nominating Henry at pick 9 last year Which took a lot of people by surprise.

I don't care about where they are from and neither do our recruiters it seems. My point was mostly tongue in cheek, every year people just link us to whatever WA player is rated around our pick range. It's tedious.

It's not that Chapman wouldn't be useful on the list its that literally any other type of player would be more useful.

Got to be wary of selecting a player purely on list needs with a first rounder. The bulldogs decided last year that they needed a small forward and reached (in my opinion) for Cody Weightman. I will trust our recruiters as they have a good track record since 2016. People saying Chapman could be like Mundy - I don’t really see it? Very few players kick the ball as good as D Mundy.

So where are Walker, Western from then?
