Going to throw a name out for a potential late pick/rookie pick with Lachlan Carrigan

TL;DR, Carrigan is a tall wingman who moulds his game off of Hugh McLuggage. He's got a sharp left foot and a lot of class.

I personally have Carrigan at number 75 on my draft board, but he's got a lot of upside and could have been a top 30 pick if he played any footy this year

when everyone is saying the potential of meek it just goes to show we are lacking quality talls lol

In defence I’m not sure any team has a better group of four key defenders than we do. If anything our side looks to me like it’d function better with two of them playing in the back six. Three of them being injured close to all season has happened once and touchwood won’t happen again.

Meek is a typical back up ruckman who’ll only get games if Darcy is injured. Given Darcy is 22 this isn’t a great issue. Most rucks aren’t any good at Meek’s age.

Up forward it’s a different story with only two AFL quality talls in Taberner and Lobb. Dixon should’ve been decent depth by now but didn’t work hard enough. We can throw Cox or Logue forward if desperate.

I think that we need to address future talls in the next 2-3 drafts but I don’t see it as a disaster if we don’t get any talls this year. There are plenty of other areas where our list could improve - happy enough with the best available non-defender (KPD with proven ability to play forward the exception) with our first tbh.

What we have in regards to talls, given a normal-ish injury run (only 1 or 2 injured at the same time), should be plenty to get us through an AFL season imo.

Bit of a story on Shannon Neale on Channel Weagle tonight. Seems a great kid. Massive mits and faaaasst! Should do all we can to get him after 12 I reckon. Would be hard to stop on the lead.

He came over as being very dedicated to getting drafted and making a good career for himself.

Gave Schoolies with his mates a miss to focus on his footy future. I don't know enough about him to comment about his draft prospects but he is not going to die wondering if he can play at the highest level.

Thoughts on this draft haul

Carroll - wing
Walker - utility
Western - small forward/wing
Callow - KF
Lane - ruck

Or

Carroll
Walker
Western
Lane
Dixon
Don't mind the structure. Obviously we barely even have highlights this year so I have no way of splitting the KPF prospects as fans but I think best available non-defender - NGA - NGA -KPF - For/Ruc makes sense.

Making the assumption that Cox isn't available and we don't get a bid before 32 I'd go:

Henry/Cook/Carroll
Highest rated KPF (Allison I think according to Twomey but obvs I have NFI this year)
Walker
Western
KPF or F/R

I don't mind Dixon if we are sure he has actually pulled his finger out. In that case we should invite a couple of other undrafted talls to train with him over summer and pick the best as SSP.

I watched that...I'll be incredibly disappointed if he's not wearing a purple jumper next year.

He ticks so many boxes it's not funny, and by most of the mock drafts I've seen so far, is incredibly underrated. Any pick for him after our first would be ok in my book.

I reckon we should be brave and grab him him at 12(15).

He will be gone by around 25 IMO so it will not be that much of a reach. We have enough young midfield talent to keep us going.

On the field, Neale's athleticism has catapulted him onto clubs' draft boards. He has been groomed by South Fremantle more as a forward than a ruckman but is open-minded about his position.

"I'm open to playing any position. I've been asked if I was willing to play on the wing the other day and I said 'absolutely.' I actually played on the wing against Peel Thunder last year. I'm open to playing absolutely any position but I think where my best development lies is as a key forward that substitutes into the ruck."

So he sees himself as a KPF who can provide ruck support...sweet Jesus let him be ours!

A local boy who has trained with the us, the club should know Neale as well as they know any player in this draft, so if they made that decision I am fine with it. And if they made the decision not to take him there, same. As with Nik Cox his athleticism may allow him to defy the typical pathway of developing talls and play a role earlier.

Hey where is the info about him training with us? Did any of the coaches give him a rating?

Looking at the phantoms, don't think Neale will be available to us if he isn't taken at the first pick. If Cox is gone at 15, I would be happy to take Neale then Brandon and Western. Don't want to take Carroll and then be forced into Brandon (by a GWS bid) and then Western only to find all good talls gone by then. That to me would be a cluster... I want to enter 2021 with Cox OR Neale + (fit)Dixon + Western + Brandon (If somehow he can work Cox and Neale I will be overjoyed). btw, Herald Sun phantom has us taking Cox at 15.

Under no circumstances should we reach for Neale at our first, far better options out there at our pick. It's like people have forgotten we have a need for outside run as well as a tall.

I really want us to target a good small forward. I think this is the one spot we are missing.

Until we get some more class in our forward line then we won't be a top 4 team.
I feel like that would be a strange position to focus on given the addition of Henry last year, the fact that Walters will spend more time forward towards the end of his career, that we have Schultz and Switta and that we'll likely add Western.

We need more class in our forward line but I think we're alright for smalls, much bigger need for a developing tall.
