Let’s stick with a basic rule for this thread, that it’s for draft watch and discussion only.

It’s not for trade hypotheticals, who you think needs to be delisted or traded, how many games you think we will win, some other team will win, how many picks you want in the 1st round or discussion of current HFC players.

It’s about youngsters who are eligible for the draft in 2021.

Key dates to look out for:
  • NAB AFL Draft Combine: TBC
  • NAB AFL Draft: Wednesday November 24 - Thursday November 25
  • NAB AFL Pre-season and Rookie Drafts: Friday November 26

Interested to know what makes him more versatile? Ward has already proven himself as a wingman and a midfielder. He seems to have a sense around goals, similar to Hobbs. Hobbs seems to be a solid mark for his size, which could translate to him being able to rest forward, but has he shown that he can at TAC level?
Ward is the same player on a wing as he is in the middle, a hard runner with good vision, smarts and skills. Both have good goal sense up forward, but Hobbs is very good at getting the ball in a pack and either releasing it to an open player for a shot or composing himself and snapping it. It is very similar to how he plays in the midfield, but it is a very transferable set of skills. His marking makes him a threat to swoop in front of a pack and take a big clunker, but his strength and body work at ground level make him a good pressure forward as well. I'd say he is similar to Bruest in his forward sense and smarts, although not as good a goal kicker or lead-up player.

A few things..
Not sure why we would try and upgrade our pick 5 to pick 2 to nab Callaghan. GWS would expect a premium in return for starters but more importantly seems like a very similiar player to Sinn who will most likely still be there at our first pick

Would much prefer Hobbs over Ward. If he can genuinely can play as a small forward effectively, he is our man for pick 5 If we jagged Hobbs I would really hope that we could nab Sonsie or Chesser with our second pick somehow
From the limited vision I have seen Hobbs reminded me of the way Voss played forward. He isn’t a Voss clone but that ability to win one on one’s is what will make him effective in the forward line. He won’t be a crumbing or pressure forward from what I can see though. But it would be good to have a mid capable as a forward.

I’d love Callaghan but agree price will be too high. I’m a big fan of sinn and Johnson too. I don’t think I’ll be disappointed with anyone…except maybe Andrew. I think pick 5 is too early given what will be available. Even then, I’d get over it 😂

Sinn seems similar to last year's Dylan Stephens (Swans) predraft, but a little taller/stronger?

I'd say he's a slight upgrade on Stephens, and hoping he has a better first year.
I'd be happy if he landed at the Hawks.

Do not want Mac Andrew. He dominates games because of his height, much the same way any tall kid dominates in underage footy. From his highlights, he cannot hit a target by foot during play... set shots seem to be ok... But he's foot-passing is so under-par, his kicks look terrible....

Just watched one of the SA vs WA games. Alot of the big names out... But a few later draft prospects playing.

Angus sheldrick- absolute gun. Just a bull and great footballer. Would be surprised if he doesn't go 20s.

Lochlan Paton - nippy hf for WA who found the goals and put on some good defensive pressure.

Matt Roberts - disposal under pressure is just terrible. By hand and foot. After taking a mark his field kicking is very good. He got destroyed by sheldrick and co.

Browne- WA mid. Wiry 185cm type who runs hard, puts on mountains of pressure and finds the footy at will. He will likely be a late pick or rookie pick, but is one I think who could translate to AFL level with body development.

Arthur Jones - project wing in the brad hill mode. Very outside and small but he has some elite speed. Probably a late pick unless someone punts on his upside.

Your statement of providing kudos to the first person to mention Johnson struck a cord with me … as I am well and truely on the Johnson train ... with the hope we can trade back our 1st while trading up our 2nd for other enticing options.

Credit where credit is due… this is my best guess of where the kudos resides...
I actually read the start of this thread and Davo-27 was all over Johnson early days.

Of all the type mids outside of Callaghan, I think he best suits our immediate needs. Long term needs who knows

Great summation. Thanks for sharing.

I'm a fan of AJ , hope we can snag him as a rookie

Didn't have any trouble jumping over 205cm Darcy Fort or 200cm Tom DeKonning and staying with them in contests at the start of the year. And he's put on 10kg this year.

His kicking is fine, if not above average for players his size. His hands, movement and handballing in congestion are all very good.

I'll happily lead the bandwagon of he ends up a Hawk.

Mac Andrews is good because he is a freakish athlete, he will still be a freakish athlete at AFL level as well.

Not many will be as tall as him and the ones that are most won't have his speed and agility.

He is raw and with 2 developing rucks he may not be the one for us but he is a great prospect and i would love to have him.

Re Andrew you could have said almost exactly the same thing about CJ in his draft year. Thankfully our recruiters looked more at what he could do really (run really fast, mark well) as opposed to his deficiencies such a s kicking etc. I was more than happy we took a punt on CJ as a rookie - low risk high reward which has paid off massively. Andrew is more high risk high reward which changes things significantly. Personally I don't think GWS or Suns will take him with their first pick. Reckon GWS will take Callahan unless they get an offer too good to refuse. Suns will take Gibcus i think

Wouldn't surprise me at all if we took him . We have definitely changed our drafting method over the last couple years going for what seems to be high upside players , day, dgb, seamus,Saunders and brockman all fit that criteria.

Could he play as a permanent key defender or key forward giving ruck pinch hits, rather than a ruck/forward?

Shifter Sheehan has big wraps on Ward on SEN

Likened him to Sam Walsh
