Not true - Stevic didn't report it because he wasn't sure if he may have moved and contributed to the contact. He said at the tribunal that after watching the tape, its clear he didn't move and the contact was intentional.

Interesting to see what the AFL does given that the finding was that

“Greene had a full view of the umpire ... he was looking straight at the umpire. The umpire was stationary. Jury finds Greene’s conduct was disrespectful, demonstrative and aggressive.”

And the AFL Counsel had then argued to the jury for a tough suspension because

“You’ve found that he has intentionally breached the rule.

“You have rejected his repeated insistence that his act was not intentional.

“Your submission should say to anyone who plays the game ‘do not do this.’”

Gleeson says Greene must be suspended for no less than six weeks.

On that basis they'd have to appeal - and they should!!
That good summary will quieten a few down on here who didnt check their facts. Long live the game and its traditions.

He has the umpire by the arm. Last time I checked this was defined as 'touching'.......
Is touching the umpire reportable? Didnt someone attach a list of criteria relating to a reportable offence when an umpire has been contacted by a player?

A word from everyone's favourite D.King

Toby was found guilty of disrespectful, demonstrative and aggressive conduct towards an umpire .....then got only three weeks ?? Are we really ensuring the umpires are an absolute “no go zone”?? What would need to happen for a 4 or 6+ week sanction, as prosecution called for?

Not at all. I am only trying to point out the inconsistencies.

What Toby did was wrong - I think everyone agrees. What I am questioning is the often selective interpretations of the rules.

Not looking to spark a fight.

Thats cool , all id love to see is what led to the player holding his arm , it looks like he is trying not to run into the ump

I think that once a game there is contact between umpire and player. what happens when an umpire and player collide and the ump goes arse over- have you ever seen the player suspended for life or anything for that matter for knocking him down? Accidents happen and we need to know the circumstances before we make a call from our TV sets...Just sayin

That picture has no context.

With the Greene incident, we saw video which showed clearly what happened.

There has to be context before discussing selective interpretations.

Perhaps you should rely on something more than a still shot to claim inconsistencies. The umpire stepped back into the space where Heppel was running and both tried hard to avoid incidental contact. 2nd qtr if you want to check.

As the rules you posted state - the contact must be considered "unreasonable or unnecessary contact' or "careless" contact before it is considered a reportable offence.

Making contact with an umpire when he standing dead still and you are moving directly towards the umpire, and do not deviate, is intentional contact and therefore a reportable offence.

I just watched on Kayo , nothing in it

I noticed it live and thought it might cause controversy but I do think he was trying to avoid hurting him more than intimidating... but you technically can't "touch" an umpire.
