It has an index at the top with threadmarks so it's easy to find what you're looking for – or easier than scrolling through 250 pages of AFL Rules, Regulations and CBA pdfs anyway.

These sorts of questions are all answered along with a bunch of other resources made by posters from across BigFooty (feel free to add to it!):

What are the stats for Sam Frost? I know he is a halfback/defender and late/rookie selection but interested in your thoughts on him please

From ESPN weekly round up

Last week's focus player Sam Frost continued his strong vein of form with a third successive week of team highs, including 30 disposals and 10 rebound 50s across half-back for Greater Western Sydney. Frost played a pivotal role in helping the Giants to a six-point win against Tasmania.

Does anyone remember reading in an article that some of Davis's money is already in next years cap? Does that mean he is contracted for next year or just the club has committed to the payments for salary cap reasons?

According to his latest interview(Tuesday?) Davis said he hasn’t extended beyond this year yet as he wants a good run of games after the injury ravaged last 12 months.

I wouldn't draft him even if we had no defenders on our list.

That's probably harsh, he's a good mark and provides some dash, but has some genuinely shocking disposal, inflated numbers by getting it back from teammates he putsunder pressure.

Also those reports from ESPN are pretty iffy at the best of times 😛

Yes I do take peoples opinions with a grain of salt and after several years of the Academy a few AFL success stories but many only lasting a couple of years in the system and plenty undrafted but one of the goals is to grow the talent base and improve the local leagues which I believe has happened and it will be interesting to see some figures on where the top 5-10% have gone in terms of AFL/State league/Local league as with the unlisted players on able to play Giants reserves that is another path for those that are on the cusp

A few success stories of Academy players being drafted a few years later after some state league development, Gibbons (I think) Highmore and Murray are a couple I can think of

He would have to be named on a playing list for that to happen. Like Bryce Gibbs retiring but moved to a rookie list after retirement.

I’m torn

he is soooo good and we are a better team with him in it

but it’s a buddy type contract… is he a buddy type player?
Maybe he will just sign for another 2 years. I would say the most successful Melbourne clubs over the next 4 years will be Melbourne, bulldogs and Essendon (hardly a genius prediction I realise, due to the quality of their players aged 27 and under). All the other Melbourne clubs are questionable. If those clubs can't fit him in, then he may well be happy to wait another year or two ( hopefully more) in Sydney. But if we don't make finals this year, I would be pretty displeased if I was Kelly with the clubs coaching and injury management.

No mention of Fahey so not sure if that is good or bad but I do think the club should take him to add to the running HB/wingers stocks at the club
Twomey gets a lot of wowd from recruiters, if this is indicative of where Fahey is rated amongst other clubs I'm not complaining, less we have to pay the better.

Kelly is a player I'd break the bank for. He's easily our best midfielder at the moment and if he could stay healthy and play a consistent role he'd be in the Brownlow discussion.
Yep, the consistency in role is a big thing, can't change him from Wing, to half forward, to rover, to half forward, to wing every 3 weeks and expect a consistent output, decide what we want to do with him (should be a rover imo, point of difference from the inside winners we seem to chuck on top of each other in there) and stick him there

From the recent Vic Metro v Vic Country 'Challenge' match (essentially a practise game in the scheme of the championships), I was lucky enough to write up about Country prospects, with my preferred option for the Collingwood pick in Josh Gibcus doing well all day with his intercepting and leap, but also demonstrating he can lockdown effectively when he played on highly fancied Sam Darcy in the final term.

#21 Josh Gibcus (GWV Rebels)
04/04/2003 | 195cm/84kg | Tall Defender

Gibcus was a typically assured aerial presence in the Country defence, taking impressive intercept marks in contested and uncontested fashion. His confidence to push off his opponent and impact the ball higher up the ground meant he intercepted in areas where Country was a bigger chance to score in transition, rather than from deep in defence. His leap meant he could afford to concede some ground on his opponents, as he would jump and spoil the ball against any opponent afield without issue. His handballing in tight was especially impressive for a tall player, appearing to prefer to handball it off rather than kick and looking comfortable delivering it even through traffic. A lot of onlookers came wanting to see Gibcus play on Metro’s Sam Darcy, as two of Victoria’s highest ratted key position prospects, and they were treated to the match up in the final quarter where the pair competed in a few one-on-one contests. Gibcus arguably came out on top of the battle, spoiling a lot of the balls that came in and keeping Darcy quiet.

as for our original first rounder, I'm still a fan of Chesser despite his poorer showing on Friday (second game back from meniscus surgery), but another one of interest, who at this stage could bolt into contention for our Collingwood pick, is Josh Goater. If he's there for our second first rounder he's a must imo, has a lot of what we've all been screaming out for in a mid prospect

#24 Josh Goater (Calder Cannons)
2/06/2003 | 190cm/79kg | Midfielder

The Calder Cannons prospect has had a rich vein of form and that continued again with the athletic midfielder improving his draft stocks once more with a strong game. Goater showed plenty of traits you want to see in a midfielder with his ability to escape congestion via a burst of speed or spin out of tackles. He showed great composure in those situations, which was highlighted in the second quarter as he rode a Ben Hobbs tackle, who is one of the toughest and strongest tacklers in this year’s draft crop. Standing at 190cm his ability to show off his athletic traits along with his obvious talent with ball in hand will make him a very sought after prospect come November in this year’s draft. Goater’s kicking was the one area that let him down at times but his run and carry on the outside and his composure and skill by hand from stoppages was impactful. It couldn’t be doubted that he was amongst the very best players on the day, finishing with 23 disposals.

Given we seem intent of bringing our own pick earlier in the draft, there hopefully should be a midfielder who possesses qualities we're looking for at our selection. But given we're now 2 KPDs down for the start/majority of next year, I'd have to say we should prioritise the KPD at the draft (not looking for instant miracles, but just getting them started on their development would be good, and they may have an early opportunity for first grade experience). If Collingwood can stay below Gold Coast, we should be able to select Gibcus (I think Gold Coast are likely to prioritise a KPD too).

Gold Coast is definitley the danger, and if the pies were kind enough to lose when we gave the Suns a win it would've been much better for us.

I haven't seen an awful lot of WA kids, given they make vision near impossible to get, but Neil Erasmys could be one to look for in that regard (although he's another that'll probably climb) as a tall mid with some agility, breakaway speed, strengty above head and clean disposal. Although with all these guys rising (to the amatuer eye at least) someone like Sinn or Sonsie could be available at our second pick as well

Hoping they have contracts in front of the OOC players as i would have expected some signatures by this stage of the season with only really MDB and Daniels of the list

Kelly
Hopper
Davis
Riccardi
Flynn

Depending on the plans of Hopper and Kelly they may need to see Riccardi walk if a club puts a big enough contract in front of him, North could and depending on the Pies coaching job. Unless he sees a future as a defender and the coaches see that for him as well or they could see if Sproule could be a defender

Flynn and Davis should sign on without any hassle

Shipley could be kept on the list to be EFL captain

Hutchesson has his injury issues so I think he will be delisted

Reid, Mumford and Buntine to retire

Can't see us re-signing Hutcheson unless he showing stuff off field that we aren't privy

Buntine is only 27 years old

and?

not AFL standard.
worth nothing on the trade table.

if he wants to be a playing vfl coach, fine, but he’s just taking up a list spot we could use for someone who might play seniors at some point.

love him as an original but he needs to not be on our list next year.
