The more games I watch of other teams the more I think we need a better kicking option at half back than any of our current crop.
None of our players are able or willing to take a kick off the half back like that opens up the field. Look at what rich does for Brisbane or Hurn or Salem/May.
Break the game open off half back and forward 50 entries always look better.

Also reckon Seb and billings need to go just to get some picks and also get Clark into a full time mid role and gresh takes billings spot.

We’ve got a few issues but I don’t see this as one of them. Hill, Sinclair and Webster as our three main rebounders is a very nice set of kicks. Connolly coming through too who looks to have some really nice skills.

Haven't seen enough of Connolly to make comment on him but out of those 3 Sinclair is the only one who often takes on those kicks.
Hill is a crap Backman who is only playing there because he was stinking it up on the wing and Webster seems like a good kick but never uses is and has a fair few turnovers

Paton back next year will allow us to move Hill out of defence and should also free up Webster to play more attacking.

Hill has been very good since going to half back. In an ideal world, he plays on a wing, but the move to half back has been effective. Him and Sinclair has been a really nice combination back there and they seem to work well together. They're not AA half backs, but players of that level (such as Rich) don't grow on trees. Between Sinclair, Hill, Webster, Paton, Coffield, Clark and Connolly, the list is well stocked for half backs. We have several bigger priorities.

I hope we send Battle back if we keep him. I’m not convinced of him as a forward or wing. His ball use this year has been below his normal output which is a concern.

I see battle, Ross, Billings, coffield, long and Dunstan as all expendable at the right price. In a similar vein to Bruce a couple of years ago.

If Coffield plays another couple of games like his last then he may be to hard to let go. I still have concerns over his desire and competitiveness though.

Hopefully Connolly can play that role, in addition to Sinclair.. Hill to be back on the Wing.

Not sure why Coff is ever in the conversation as a possible trade.
Hes 21 years old and we’ve already seen what he can do. Got his confidence back last week. I’m not prepared to let a #8 pick go after just a few years.
He’ll be a star for us, I think.

He just needs a good preseason. Professionalism will come with more work on the track...same with Clark. There should be more consistency with the two of them next year.

Same

We'd be crazy to let him go.

I think it's time to start looking internal for the development we need. I've been in favour of our aggressive trading approach the past couple of years, but at a point you need to stop looking for external saviours and put the responsibility with the playing group. We really need players like Clark, Coffield, Gresham (albeit we don't know how he'll be after missing so much time), Byrnes, King, Highmore etc to improve their individual outputs. Of course, they're not all going to become top draw players, but we need a few of them to become elite players. I'm confident that King will be. That would get us to two elite players with Steele and King. That's probably still a couple short of a genuine contending team. Need some individuals to have massive pre-seasons where they take responsibility for the direction of the club and lift their output significantly.
I’m of similar opinion, although of late I have been wishing for another outside midfielder for when Zones is injured.
Reading through a couple of draft profiles, I see we may already have one in our midst & I hope Zac has taken him under his wing.

Paton's clean distribution was his best feature. He was able to hit up players without causing turn overs and Connolly looks a similar type but possibly has a bit more penetration.

Yep , the person who first raised that Coff may be traded should be banned , sheep will be sheep and follow along though as you know

Isn't he contracted? Would have to be a monster offer for

a) Coffield requesting a move
b) Saints letting him go.

Would have to be 600 x 4 and Saints get two firsts.
Not happening on either front for a guy still establishing his career.

Contracted to end of 2023 I think
He and Clark signed at the start the season I thought

Paton is very good one on one and good in the air, at 187cm he’s able to help out as the third man up but quick enough not to get burnt by the gun smalls when the ball hits the ground.

I‘m very impressed with Connolly his kicking is just what we need, like Paton he’s a good decision maker and moves the ball on quickly. I really hope our players have a massive offseason with some luck and an easier fixture we really should be playing finals again.

I wouldn’t be expecting too much from Paton next year it’s the sort of injury many don’t come back from . Fingers crossed for him

They don't call him Scoops for nothing.

These ITKs hear everything [emoji6]

Agreed. Hope we're wrong but I think he's going to take an extra year to fully get his power and pace back.

Tom Mitchell had a serious injury and it's only now late in his second season back he's looking anywhere near the player he was pre-injury.
