Contracts mean SFA nowdays if a player wants to move and a deal can be done. Plenty of players but the cost is higher.
Yes we may have one or two lined up, i just hope we’re not just shuffling the deck chairs. I’d be happy enough with quality or promising youth but Ross out crouch in type trading is a waste of time imo.

Winning a B+F at St kilda between 2011-19 isn't a mark of success and shouldn't hold weight

2017 was a pretty reasonable year for the most part and Ross was excellent. And I try not to demean what a player does for a football club I "support" when they do it really well.

I think if all three leave there will be some short-term regression in team performance.

Billings is underrated and the by far the best of the 3.
I would hope he stays...

But I like the club digging in on the money, he has been quite well paid over the first 7 years of his career, top dollar for the last 2 which through injury he hasn’t been able to give us the performance we had hoped for.

Time to give back to the club that fostered you and has already supported you financially.
You can stay the course,
Or if money is more important, ship off.

I don't think there is going to be a lot of interest in Ross and Lonie...I mean I think they will find clubs but don't think Saints will get anything of real value back. So not sure either moving on progresses us much in the way of opportunity or rebuild.

Billings would be more attractive to the right club. Not sure how the footy world rates him? I think we have to find some way to get more options in the draft. Not sure that there are any compelling trades available to us this year.

Btw for all the crazy talk about not letting Dunstan go lately and everyone potting crouch.

They are similar players. With crouch having better disposal and can actually spread, so he isn’t a liability after the contest.

oh and a BnF winning All Australian in a grand final side.

Crouch is around the same level as Dunstan to be honest so it's a sideways step.
Hill more expensive and shitter than Billings...step down
Howard- Carlisle- straight replacement
Jones replaced losing Stuv- straight swap.

We are talking of being economical all of a sudden but is not the model they have used so far, paid up to get all our guys in. At some point we need to stockpile talent. Or are we going to do a North Melbourne and take a step back hard?

King is looking like our biggest win under this rebuild which was a high draft pick used well. We have a spread of promising youth but until they take a step up the are just Acres types who are potential.

Do you think our list is better than it was 5 years ago?

No it’s not an Arsenal, there’s not much left in free agency and we don’t have the picks without deviating from what’s been stated about using our first this year.

So what does it really get you, if we had the picks two very good players or one A grader and a good player. So we’re loosing two very good players imo there’s nothing in free agency and we don’t have the picks to trade. Looks like gringo is spot on to me we’re going for a sneaky youth rebuild while stashing away some money and maybe a pick for next year.

I understand there’s always surprises but no free agents and no high picks means youth or the bargain bin imo.
Because that Arsenal doesn’t need to be used this off-season.

I would re up Steele 4x700.
And I would try pay 1.1-1.2 under next seasons cap.

or better yet. Pay King a large chunk next year. Forward pay a few other deals.

we don’t need to burn the cap this summer because we don’t like what’s out there.

Money ball type that might be worth a look at is Lewis Melican to give us some KPD cover and Howard/Wilkie a chop out for size

Sydney are super tight there are players torrid there. Not sure about Melican, I've never really noticed him.

But when do we start to move forward? It's getting fairly painful waiting for this club to get into gear. Collingwood rebuilt, played off in a GF and are rebuilding again. Bulldogs rebuilt won a premiership and rebuilt again and are close to another while we are still bumbling along. We don't seem to have a great deal of urgency about us as a club. I guess they measure success on membership numbers not on field. Perhaps we need to wait until everyone loses interest to get off our arses.

Go with experience.

Talia (if fit)or Tarrant make us much better.

Without a midfield at least they'll earn their money for a couple of years until we are back looking for another geriatric to fill in for a couple more years.

You may be right in the short term but if all 3 stay and are mainstays in the team we won't come close to a flag in the long run.

I'd rather we try Bytel more in the guts and give him the license to try and improve as a footballer instead of picking the old mainstays so we can feel confident in getting Dunstan's 25 touches either dug out of a pack admittedly well or blasted on the boot aimlessly

Miss finals for another 3 years post covid and we are precariously placed if memberships drop off. If the AFL don't have gate takings for a couple more years they will start looking at weak links.

We botched the Richo era.

and again, you keep making comments because your demanding immediate success and gratification, yet you keep missing the point of how do we show urgency with little picks and a full cap this summer?

players need to go for others to come in and push us forward.

a boat load of kids this summer and 1-2 senior bodies makes us stronger.

We are a better side then a lot of posters give us credit for, injury, poor pre season, poor attitude at times on game day and tough draw that can all be turned around realistically we are a side that sits 5th - 8th, no re build no disater plans and no going to Tassie all rubbish talk, every side changes players year to year and free agents are the way to go with drafting of the best available kids.

.....stronger in 4 or 5 years maybe with new kids. We haven't drafted much and we sell picks to get access to mature players. Why I've been critical of the living off future draft picks. We are in that sort of shit spot North Melbourne got too where we tried to buy our way out of a rebuild but had to step back anyway potentially unless we have an above average amount of developing players step up a level at once.

And I keep telling you. Take whatever pain you think we will have next year moving on a few senior bodies this off season.

bring in Bing and a free agent, then you instantly start talking top 4 with an easier draw etc.

They make that sound harsh by us.
Bloke has a broken back, won’t play AFL anywhere.
Great service to our club over a few years (-1 thanks to Hird 😡)
Should have been cut last year.

just topped up a pension fund and gave him first class health care.

more ruthlessness please.

I don‘t have a problem with that except it’s of script, I’m all for a strategic approach.

The problem is the President and others keep talking and what they say doesn’t align with what we’re doing. I’m happy enough to walk away with a high first or nga players some strategic trades and the list and cap primed for 2022.

The club is walking a tightrope though, if we miss finals while north and hawthorn improve the pressure will be incredible. Billings is the one that bothers me he’s 25 and in his prime not some broken down hack and is our best wingman when fit, strange choice to play hardball with unless we end up with a first for compo imo.

Who are our gun FAs? We seem to have lost more good players to FA than we have brought in.
