Just seems very strange to use our first pick on a project tall who isn't really a kpp more a utility like Battle. Who was also looking like a late to rookie pick.
When poulter was there roughly the same size as Allison, ready to play, inside, outside and forward.
I doubt there was one person on this board hoping or expecting we'd take a project key forward with that pick on draft night.

My point is that he was in the form of his life when he signed the contract. That was pretty obvious because I said exactly that.

He got 9 Brownlow votes in the first half of that year when he signed his contract from memory and than I don't think he got one after that.

He was also 2 years younger and loomed like he might go ally be tracking to that elite area. I think now most know what you see is what you are most likely going to get.

He's been solid this year, one of our better players, but not great and not as good as he was when he signed that contract.
Has he had a top 5 in the B&F ?
Wasn't in top 10 last year

I hope we get either Crossley or Callow, a couple of young players with that bit of mongrel in them. I said weeks ago Ming needs help before he burns out, he’s only lightly framed & he is getting his fair share of unwanted attention, which can’t be doing his confidence to good.
Then a couple of outside midfielders with super pace & precise kicking ability.
Finish up with a 205cm mobile/agile brick shithouse as a KPD.
If we can get one or two in the mid season draft, all the better.
We need players that won’t fold under pressure, bugger being a team of little Saints.

He's also playing at a lower level than Max King.

Both games I've watched this year he's played mostly as a genuine key forward with Thurlow more in the ruck and to me he doesn't look like the type of player that could make it at AFL level as a key forward only IMO.

The fact he can play both forward and ruck soundly, have an impact around the ground and be aggressive makes him a good prospect though.

I'm all for him, but I just don't see the Charlie Dixon comparison.

I don't think he'll play forward only so maybe Lobb then. I think he's a guy who plays the forward who chops out ruck more than first ruck still.

Hind continuing his stellar year off the half back. Salt. Wound.

Parish and Mc Grath are their Clark and Coffield. It's taken until this year for them to become absolute top quality players. 2 years older and about 50 more games when you compare parish and Clark. That's probably realistically what we need to wait for to move forward.

Parish would have come on a lot faster if they didn't play him on a flank for so long.

Sounds familiar.

At 195cm, he is the size to be a genuine kpp. And a few days before the draft, he was predicted to go in the 2nd round with North and GWS two of the teams heavily into him. Taking him at pick 26 was a "reach" by about 4 picks, not as extreme as some are making it out to be.
I doubt it. Think we were just trying to be too clever as per usual.

Definitely need some players with mongrel and character. Crossley might not be the best but I think his mongrel would really help King

There's no obsession with us taking them with every pick but since Gresham we've used one top 40 pick on a mid (Clark) and 3 on key forwards (King, Battle, Allison).

There was no reason we couldn't use a late pick on a key forward.

I'm not sure what Allison is, he's more a kid who grew a lot who was not a KPP. Still mystified by that pick. It's the first really Trouty thing Libba has done. You can almost guarantee Poulter (who I wanted) will be a superstar. Already looks magnificent after today. Went the next pick, he was the draft bolter and had exposed form in SA and looked good.

Why in the world would Collingwood do that ?

Here you go you have our 1st round pick and we will miss 12months development on a top 10 pick, just makes no sense
I thought the pies owned their first rounder.... And why wouldnt they do it? They would lose it any way for when north bid on their F/S.

So instead of losing it they could have passed it fwd.

Never mind.

What we need is ****ing midfielders. No more project talls, no more half back flankers, no more forward pockets; midfielders. Been saying it since the Lyon era downfall that we need to replace our midfield and it's just not been done in a decade.

There is nothing for you to doubt. It's what Cal Twomey, who has the inside word in all the draft activity, reported.
GWS didn't have a pick between our picks did they? And north went with a couple shorties so you would think a project "kpp" wasn't a big need. You never know but I reckon this board would have been celebrating about poulter instead of saying "who?" when Allison was called

North have loaded up on mids in the first round with LDU, Thomas, Powell and Simpkin so it probably made more sense for them to take the punt on a project key forward at that stage.

Add Phillips to that list who looks the goods.. goes on. They’ve loaded high end mids and will benefit in years to come. They’ll get a PP this year as well. Can make a big play for McKay or just draft an elite KPP in the draft along with another elite mid in the draft as well. They’re on the right track.

We probably would have, but it's not as if our reaction on makes something a good or bad decision.

As I said, give the kid some time to adjust and show what he can do. If he doesn't look anywhere near it in 2-3 years time, then the decision warrants criticism. But at least give him time to suck in his own right before piling on top of him.

Poulter looks good and hopefully for Collingwood's sake, they have a long term player on their hands. But being ready first doing guarantee someone will be long term, quality player - Dunstan was outstanding in his first year and looked like a gun in the making. It took Jordan Ridley (taken at a similar pick in the draft) until his 4th year before he consistently made Essendon's best 22.

There is no need to be making such strong judgements on players 10 rounds into their afl career, especially when their draft year was Covid affected.

Not piling on top of him. Questioning the clubs decision making.
Happy to back him in but just has the feel of another St Kilda bungle. Hope I'm wrong.

Doubt they’ll get a priority pick. Haven’t been down that long, and it was
entirely of their own making when they gutted their list.

Yeah, they suck for now but they will bounce back quick because they are taking their medicine and drafting well. They look more like short and sharp than us and Carlton. They stepped back hard after realising they were going nowhere doing what we are doing now. They delisted or traded something like 17 players last year and had injuries this year which contributed to them being one of the least competitive sides in memory but look better with Ziebel and Cunnington back in. If they had Stephenson back in they would be that much better off again. I think we will beat them but they will see us as an easy kill and go all in on us. I think we are a real danger of getting done by them if Goldy plays. We will now realise it's season over and probably drop the effort right off as well. To me they look like us without King.

Haven't read anyone piling shit on Allison. Most are aware that he's going to take time.

It doesnt mean we have to pretend that's the decision we wanted the club to make though.

If we had have had posters on here pre draft saying we need to take Allison they have been shot down by the most of the board.

He could be a gun but he had no form to go off and really doesn't even look like we knew what sort of player he might be if he grew when he was not playing footy. It was a massive gamble that still makes zero sense to me. He looks like throwing a dart not actual planning.

Highmore was a good player but really also made very little sense considering that Wilkie was nearly first picked every week since we got him and he looks like he'll have to dislodge him or Coffield to get regular games. We can't even get Battle a consistent spot and we hit another in-between utility. Strange list management to me.

Then we just pulled up stumps and didn't even take a risk on a highly touted kid that slipped down the order. Supposedly we were keeping spots open for the midseason draft where all these slipped kids with little exposed form would be waiting....only they weren't there.

Not once have I read anyone pilling shit on Allison either
