I hope him and Coff get fit in the off season. Both need to take step up.
Coffield who looked to be on his way to A grade last year just looks a different player entirely this year.

He appears to need to put some serious work into developing a tank because when he starts to tire he looks like a runner who’s hit the wall, the drop off is starting. If I hadn‘t seen him play last year I’d be looking to trade him but I’m definitely giving him another year.

I see you don’t rate Paton as anything special, I’m all in I think he’s an absolute star of the future and expect to see him used further up the field. Clark is a potential superstar imo but he needs to work hard on his fitness and to have an injury free run.

People keep saying delist Carlisle but we are so short on key defenders that if he is healthy we should give him another one year deal
I’m Carlisle’s biggest supporter but I just can’t see him playing more than 5 games next year. I’d like to see them throw him a 1 year deal, but that’s only if Frawley is off the books next year.

Yeah I really like Jake as well, but unfortunately likely his back will be cooked. Have to see how his op ends up, but very unlikely to be able to stand up to the rigours of afl

Big fan of him but I think he might be done too. Copped a bit over leaving to see the birth of his kid, a bit of overstated drama about his attitude on field and his overall injuries but over the last 2 years the best our backline has looked is when he's been there to take the heat off Dougal Howard. With a good back he had the skill to intercept and the height and size to match up on ANY of the key forwards in the competition, leaving Dougs to take the mobile ones. Won't forget what he did in the Bulldogs final, was instrumental

If he was a 19yo he'd have time to improve and not be in the group leadership.
But he's not so **** him
He is usually always in our top players for repeat sprints indicating he keeps up the effort and he has played his role well this year. His disposal is no where near as bad as people make it out to be. He is another one of those quieter types we have, which is why he didn't suit to be captain.

I appreciate the reasons that others have a better view of Seb but l simply can't stand him as a player.
Whilst the team are searching for chemistry removing an individual can be equally as important as adding one. It's not always a case of simply getting better players to push out the 22nd best individual each time.

Like that scenario in that Moneyball movie, I'm sure that Seb needs to be moved on to improve the greater functionality of the team and like Port did we move out some regulars that we can afford to lose and bring in some new energy with good kids.
Seb and JB need to go for this reason, and to help me be less angry during games.

What reasoning or evidence do you have that removing Ross and Billings would make us a more functional team?

Coff has never been great one on one. Prefers to play loose but with the change in rules and Highmore coming in he has needed to be more accoutnable and struggled with it I reckon.
Hoping we can put some time into him up on the wing instead of Battle

Ross is the epitome of a wipping boy. What he does well generally glossed over and the few bad kicks or handballs he does are extrapolated to all disposals

Confirmation bias is very hard to overcome. Once someone has been tainted it's really hard to not see it. He was a pretty well loved player until Nick Riewoldt potted him on commentary a few years back, I've noticed he does it pretty regularly. Ross must have taken his car spot one time or something.

Ross was probably only behind Steven as our best player for a few years there then got injured and his form fell right away. He has a few flaws like decisions making and the odd poor disposal but he also has some really good forward 50 entries and he's sped up his decision making and now more hacks forward fast rather than looks for the best option at glacial speed. It tends to come off and he doesn't turn over anywhere near as many kicks as a lot of others. he's not perfect but he's far from our worst. He's got a few unflattering traits but apart from Steele there aren't many saints that don't right now.

I was one of the first on here to call out how well Paton was going and really like him but was more pointing out the crazy calls that our season dropping away was directly related to not having him playing.

Webster has probably covered him equally even though Paton was more one on one and probably allowed us to slow build off half back with precision kicks. He might develop into a star but the idea that we were missing something equivalent to Steele is a massive stretch.

Obviously you have to account for shorter quarters so Paton would probably have been pretty similar in stats with the longer game.

It's amazing how our midfield gets smashed and yet we keep defending the same usual suspects the second someone mentions moving them on.
Ross the stat padder who only decided to start playing after the game was done
Dunstan the big bodied contested mid who laid 2 tackles for the game

Dean Kent was our third highest tackler with 5 so he must be a gun if he isn't a mid and he can do that. Ross was good early in that game. Membrey you must be thinking of. He didn't turn up until the game was done.

Our midfield had more of the ball but we couldn't convert again. We kicked 12.9 and they kicked 18.4. So they had one more scoring shot....and with Kent kicking OOTF the same amount. We looked a bit lazy and half arsed but the two forward lines are where the difference was. We should have been able to exploit the ruck but we managed to make what should have been a huge advantage into a neutral.

Seeing that Brander has not signed with the Eagles I feel he would be ideal for us , the kid can play as a key defender or a key forward and having Battle as well it should solve our problem filling these positions.
The problem though is what he would be worth - every time you try and poach a player they want a first round pick.
Played in the WAFL last week at CHB and racked up 30 possessions and a stack of marks.

19 disps (15 kicks 4 hballs) and 9 marks in Rd 8 38-pt win over Hawthorn at the MCG (9 May 2021)
16 disps (14 kicks 2 hballs), 9 marks and 2 goals in Rd 7 59-pt win over Fremantle at Optus Stadium (2 May 2021)
21 disps (13 kicks 8 hballs), 6 marks and a goal in Rd 3 37-pt win over Port Adelaide at Optus Stadium (3 Apr 2021)

Geary is a warrior, has put everything into his career with limited natural talent, a braver more courageous player you could not find.
Started at the feet of Ross Lyon so got a good grounding, has played most of his career in a poor team, so respected he was made captain.
The vision of his leg opened up to ward off compartment syndrome was pretty gruesome.
A club needs players like Geary, like Jason Blake before him, wholehearted and never shirks a contest....

....but, his time has come, we need to move on, he should have retired.
He is a great clubman and a year list clogging or taking a young blokes spot is not what his legacy should be.
Worse still we have a Membrey situation where an aging star decides to go around for another year so they leave. Imaging if say Coffield does that because Geary is taking his spot.

Very well said.

Well, surely you have some reasoning beyond your own personal dislike for those two people to be so steadfast that they just have to be removed from the club.
Sure.
With JB I can appreciate his qualities but I've seen too may times that he avoids the hard contest. I get that he's a manlett and it's not his thing but when it's your turn you've just got to go like Dmac does. I don't suggest it's intentional per se, but I do think that he's fallen into the mentality of not risking getting hurt and is largely a seagull all the time. Even Hill is putting him to shame in that department these days. JB and Dmac are the same size and weight so there's no excuse for it. If you're an oppo player you'll know that you only need to body-line the ball and JB will let you have it. I want players that are uncompromising and JB is the opposite of this and I don't like the example it sets.
On top of that is the goal kicking which need no explanation.
I believe we have the cattle to cover his output and will also bring their own qualities to the table, and I'll take Snaggs or Gresh ahead of JB every day of the week.

Seb I'd be happy with if he was a dedicated tagger on little money and in and out of the side as required. Unfortunately because he's very mobile and can fill several rolls he's picked every week. IMO he's often one of, if not the first to give a half arsed effort or team killing disposal which is all too often right at the moment the whips are cracking and it's visibly the moment we break. Include the fact he tends to get a lot of the ball and tends to dispose of it poorly he's the single most deflating player by a huge margin. The shear volume of plays that break down off of Sebs disposal or decision making is his primary influence on game day all too often.

I know you won't agree because we've had this conversation last year too. Since then my opinion hasn't changed, and neither I suspect has yours. So unless you're ready to concede that you've change your mind or were wrong in the first place there's no need to whip a dead horse on this one.

I think with his tank that would be impossible at present but if he can build one he appears destined for the wing or midfield eventually.

If that is the case I hope they are getting some plans into him about building on this over the summer.
There a few blokes who could do with some time on the track.
