Except its easy to look at Leo and see more potential, irregardless of which pick both were taken at.
I like Connolly and what pick players are taken at means very little after a couple of years in the system.

Leo has really impressed with his run and kicking and hopefully he keeps improving but that was some season Coffield had last year.

Will hayes from doggies is having a stellar year in the vfl and can't get a look in from the Rookie list at the dogs

Give me Sam Taylor from GWS please.

Seeing that Brander has not signed with the Eagles I feel he would be ideal for us , the kid can play as a key defender or a key forward and having Battle as well it should solve our problem filling these positions.
The problem though is what he would be worth - every time you try and poach a player they want a first round pick.
Played in the WAFL last week at CHB and racked up 30 possessions and a stack of marks.

19 disps (15 kicks 4 hballs) and 9 marks in Rd 8 38-pt win over Hawthorn at the MCG (9 May 2021)
16 disps (14 kicks 2 hballs), 9 marks and 2 goals in Rd 7 59-pt win over Fremantle at Optus Stadium (2 May 2021)
21 disps (13 kicks 8 hballs), 6 marks and a goal in Rd 3 37-pt win over Port Adelaide at Optus Stadium (3 Apr 2021)

Season Highlights

Given the Eagles poor showings of late I'm stunned they aren't giving guys like Brander more of a go. I rate him.

Jack Payne from Brisbane would be a good fix for us, given our likely mass exodus of key defenders (Carlisle, Roberton, Frawley all gone, one of Clav or Joyce wouldn't surprise me either if they were gone). Unfortunately, he's been given a bit more game time this season.

Talia from Croms is interesting. Might not get a contract, he'd have 2-3 decent years left in him. I'd take him for some insurance. Be a much better option than Frawley anyway.

Agree Talia should have a bit more left .

Payne or Brander would be ideal. Fingers crossed ay.

I hope he has taken a sizeable pay cut...also suggests that we're not too pushed about the draft.
Dunno about the focus of the draft, still think that is a major priority. Perhaps we are getting picks elsewhere. Again though I don't know if he will sign for certain.

Ah, okay...I thought you may have got wind of something media wise that I won't see over here for a day or two. He's the closest free agent we have to netting us an early 2nd rounder. Not holding my breath anymore for something in the 1st. He just 'aint there.

Watching Whitfield last night take the game on...he'll just push himself to another level and do what it takes to impact and try and win the game. He's not afraid to be the "one". Same goes for Greene.

That's what's Billings lacks.
We need to see Billings for what he is and that's a B grade player. If he stays at a B grade wage that's fine. If he leaves it would net us a second at best which is nothing special.

Whitfield and Greene are two of the better players in the league. They will be earning much more than JB.

Yeah, comparing Billings to the stars just makes you depressed. He's still a valuable player, he's just not in that top bracket. He's not going to win us a match regularly but he will help us win matches. If he signs for less money I'm very happy to keep him. It would actually be very good motivation to put himself out to market and realise he's not worth the kind of money he's used to earning. He might wake up and get a bit of drive. Even if not he's a very even reliable player when not injured.

He has always taken this approach of signing two year deals and always getting about better. It has worked up until now but for this new deal it really hasn't as his last two seasons have been poor.

Before that he was a good player for us and an occasional match winner. Like you, I hope that this is motivation for him to improve or at least get some consistency back. It seems he's probably been hampered by injuries this year, for example I think his tackling is often really good but he has laid one in four weeks or something.

I'm happy to see him stay at the right price.

Yeah i guess it's just a shame to have to come to that conclusion. I suspect he could have been more.

So much is above the shoulders.

Billing’s - Dunstan and the Goat 🐐 picks 3 - 18 and 19

We chose poorly

Still better than 2014. Paddy, Hugh, DMac and Lonie. Collingwood that year took De Goey, Darcy Moore and Brayden Maynard. Melbourne took Petracca, Brayshaw, Neal-Bullen and Oscar Mc Donald. Bulldogs got Bailey Dale, Caleb Daniel and Cordy after not having a first round pick also Toby McLean and Lucas Webb.

Those poor draft years are the ones that we are paying for still. Good drafting is still what gives you the best chance at a premiership. Hopefully we are going to look at the last few drafts and wonder how we arsed so man guns.

100% those years of drafting are hurting us now

JB should be offered 350K and then another 150K in terms of performance based add ons such as finishing top 10 and then top 5 in the BNF. He has milked us enough over the years when we needed to hit our minimum cap. Time for him to perform or move on. If we offer him an more than that, I'd be pissed. Same goes for Seb Ross. We need to get our payments in order as we seem to over pay a lot more than other clubs do.
