The thing is if we draft Bont maybe we don't end up with the number 1 pick to get Petracca. Or if we have Bont and Petracca maybe we don't get Steele because of cap space or players needs.

We look at the players we missed and assume we still get the same players down the line. Would we have King still? Possibly. Would we have had better success to this point. Maybe. Or maybe we'd struggle even more than we are. We'll look at other players we would've drafted and we'll be discussing why the hell did we get that guy instead this guy who is obviously better.

That's fair but we can dream. Would be a fair side.

I'm probably alone on this but I hope we trade out membrey

Not alone - I've posted about my desire to move Membrey on, lately.

I just don't think he suits our faster game style. He has been struggling to play a deeper forward role over the past couple seasons; perhaps opposition defences have worked out an effective way to counter him, which is presumably relatively easy considering he rarely leads due to his 2-foot jump style. So, then, let him roam up the ground, right? Unfortunately, he is just too slow on the ball. He takes far too long to make any decision, and often ends up kicking to a contest so should have just done that instantly instead of allowing the opposition to flood back.

Membrey would net good value in a trade, and I'd like to see Battle playing the higher forward role as he is much better suited to the forward 50 entry kick than Membrey, IMO. Considering the Gold Coast has flagged a desire for mature players, I could see the club chatting to him to float the idea of a move should we chase Bing this year.

How did people find Ross's game last night? I didn't think he was poor but something just felt off about it. Am I just looking too much into it considering he's not contracted yet and there was that sh*t from Caro earlier in the season?
I thought he was going ok till his shitty handball thst resulted in an out on the full from the receiving player.
Someone (Wilkie?) out of camera shot sprayed him for it, and clear as day Seb told him to F*** OFF!!!.
I'm biased though. I want him gone regardless of how he plays.

Marshall plays so much better as the number 1 solo Ruck. I wouldn't worry to much about bringing in a replacement for ryder, just need a solid back up.

#1 target for me in the draft is best available midfielder (not a flanker who we think can play mid)

#2 via draft or trade is another KPD, a future 2nd rounder special maybe.

#3 if billings and dunny both leave and net us 2 second rounders hopefully we could package them together and trade into the teens and obtain a slider.

Or we pick them and our development is so bad that they look like duds so we still trade in Steele and we still finish low enough to get King. Then once Ratten comes in we've got Bont, Petracca, Steele and King.

Ross and billings aren't stars. They aren't core players. They are flankers. They are basically providing journeyman service on A grade wages.
How many times do we have to say our midfield is poor or our leaders went missing or our effort wasn't there.
These are the guys holding the team back. Stopping new leaders from emerging and reducing our ability to recruit.
Would we be fussed about Ross leaving if it meant a midfield of Steele, Parker and Crouch? Or a forward line with 2 kings? Or a star young draftee?

The problem with the scenario is that if we don't shift those picks they'll get sucked up by the NGA's.
The Dogs will drive a hard bargain and will want overs or future picks which we can't do if we expect to get Bing next year.

Dogs will want a ton of points for their bid so we can give them a bundle of random picks. As long as we retain enough at the end to match our NGAs we’re good. Just need to accept we won’t participate in the second or third round at all

Sorry, thats too multifaceted for this place. The idea that playing these guys on good money might be preventing improvement elsewhere is a pretty full on concept.
Do you have some stats to back this up?

Yes but the maths for that on the draft points are very borderline.

Stop making sense.

Imagine bont, Steele, petracca with Marshall tapping it down.

I hate football sometimes...

You can’t have that dream without putting Grundy in the team.

That’s just a little bit patronising and ingenuous, tbh.
Nobody said that they should not be taking a cut on their salaries, as they probably will.
I don’t believe, from an age demographic, that we should be cutting three guys within that same area.
We had a huge dearth of middle age players for years and it took a long time to balance the list.
One will go, probably Dunstan I believe. Possibly two, but not all three. Nor should they.

Wilkie gave him a huge spray for one of his turn over kicks that resulted in a swans goal

That shouldn’t be a Ross thing though you would hope the leaders reinforce good habits and call out bad ones on the field.

Especially if those bad habits fly in the face of what has been trained and what every teammate expects to happen.

can't kick, throws it on the boot 70 percent of the time

As long as Seb gets a stat he doesn’t care where it goes. A stat padder of the highest order, and has been since day one.
I’d be happy to let him walk even with no compensation, he’s the epitome of our mediocrity on field for the past decade.

Membrey would be a really good full forward.. uses his leading, and marking to best effect... but our forward entries were atrocious, if we can’t force a turn over, we just bomb the ball. Membrey marked some high balls, but still only a small percentage.. I will say all forwards are not suited to our bombing kicks to f50. E.g. last night, kicking the ball in front of leading or moving players, made it look a lot easier/effective..

Having said that.. Having Sharman, Battle and Membrey as 2nd talls next to King is probably overkill.. two of them will be good. Sharman in his 2 games has already proven he is smart and a good lead up forward.. So, defends on injuries.. keeping all 3 might not be a bad idea, unless someone offers a deal we can’t refuse..

I rate Battle as a defender most of all. Given that we'll likely lose all of Frawley, Roberton and Clav I'd like us to get him back down there next season.

Sharman showed what a natural forward he is. Beautiful leap and hands. There's a bit of Membrey 2.0/Rozee about him.

Battle has unlimited upside , turning 23 next mth he is at the age where the penny drops and he realizes his career is on the line if he doesn't step up.
Out of contract in 2022 he will know he will have to have a big preseason and come out firing and I predict he will , forward or back he will make his presence felt.
The same has happened to Parish and he only came good at 24.

Sharman looks to be a player and to have smart , tall , fast forward who can take contested marks would give us more x factor in the forward line , hopefully he can finish off the season full of confidence and go from strength to strength next season - if he does it will be massive for our forward line.
It will add more pressure to players to break into the 22 , however he has a long way to go to prove himself but at this stage we might of found one out of the rough here.

The development of Connolly , Byrne and Bytel will also heat up next year because spots in the team are going to be hard to get with the influx of players back from injury because Clark , Gresham , Paton will automatically push 3 players out.
For instance you have a talented player like Paton back into the side would you drop Webster , I don't think you would.
The same goes with Battle , Wood , Sharman and if one of these play forward players like Long , Kent , Lonie will be playing the year at Sandringham and only brought into the team if we get hit with injuries again but even then with players like Byrne , Connolly it's going to be tough.

Heath is going to be a interesting one , he will be a couple years before he could be ready but you never know with these young guys today , however I fully expect we will be looking for a ruck / forward in the trade period and if we get a one there is another spot taken.
