I'd rather keep both unless they hold us ransom and get overs for them. I reckon Dunstan will embarrass us if we lose him for a third rounder. If Carlton get him and jump us my head will explode.
I don't get this idea that we need to keep Dunstan. He's number 5 or 6 in our midfield and our midfield still needs work. We're not going to get better hanging on to him. Same with Ross. We lose Dunstan and worse case scenario is we're lacking some midfield depth which could be filled by Byrnes or Clarke.

It was only a few years ago and we had lost the least amount of players through trading them out of any club. It certainly didn't help us be a better team. Gotta be ruthless.

I don’t think we’ll have to be ruthless. I think it’s going to be his choice to leave because I think he knows where he’s going to be in the pecking order. But at least we should get something half decent for him which wouldn’t have been the case five months ago.

5 or 6? Hmmm not sure we have 4 to 5 ahead of him atm

You're a bit of an enigma, mate. You go on about the drafting and development of players as being poor...yet in the same breathe, you don't want players to leave because they will be somehow light years better elsewhere.
Dunstan has been on our list for years and only now has hit some patch of form.
Next year I'd have bytel, Clark and gresh ahead of him. Plus hopefully some new blood coming through

Steele, Jones, Crouch, Gresh ahead. Hannebery also.

Bytel, byrnes, Clark just behind or on par

Steele, Crouch, Jones, Gresham all get a game before him I think automatically. He's certainly been great in the second half of the year but as I said, our midfield still needs improvement. He's the one that drops out if we get anyone better.
The thing is though if we lose a mid like Steele or Crouch through injury , Dunstan's the one you want, Jones is good but he has been in and out the team - Ross , well he is the one I would try and get traded and with all Dunstan's faults he gets clearances and has leadership qualities better than just about anyone in the team about from Steele.
If everyone stays fit he may well be stationed at Sandringham , but a team is only as strong as your depth.

If Gresham doesn't develop into the midfield beast we want and need , we will be praying Clark or another one of the kids come good and we are talking about next season.

I fully understand why he will most probably go but he has to take responsibility for the reason he was on the outer because he never improved over time and after finding his career in limbo has lifted , amazing it always happens in contract year - I feel a lot of these guys once they sign a contract they get to comfortable and the desire might not be as it should.

Id really like to see Ross on the Gold Coast next year. Would take a mid 2nd. If that happened I’d maybe be more inclined to keep Dunstan but would be happy enough if both found new homes next year.

I would be happier still if we would have a think about Cerra. Perfect fit for our list in every way except maybe tight on cash but surely we’re not that tight? Would be very keen to send our first pick over again but would require a little more with dj Peter bell at the helm. Maybe he’d go easy on us knowing he got a bargain with hill.

His 2020 injury is irrelevant now. He returned from it completely fine and played some very good football.

It will likely take him some time to regain his best form but plenty of players have recovered from Achilles recently and returned to their best. We shouldn't re-sign Dunstan because it might take Gresh some time to get back to his very best. He should only sign with us if we think he will be a long term piece of the midfield.
Just like Hanners' 2020 injuries are irrelevant.

I suspect those whisper originated on here by people hoping it happened. Why would Gold Coast agree to that?
Because they had no choice. When Ben King signed his contract extension in 2019 he had one year left to run at GC and they simply could not have afforded to lose King at the time.

The clause actually works in favour of GC because it forces us to the trade table and does not allow King to structure a contract offer that excludes most other clubs.

Now we will have to pony up draft picks and players.

Interesting.

Tom Morris thinks JB will leave but has no idea where too. Cal Twomey and Riley Beveridge said today their mail is he will stay.
Seen that he will stay too. Not from Cal or Riley but I'd believe Cal over Tom, knows him personally.

He certainly got ambassador money from the AFL as a bribe to keep him at the Suns. That is fact.

It is not unrealistic or outside the realms of possibility that a kid who wanted to come home would put a clause into his next contract as a condition of staying to ensure the loss of talent never happened with Lukoscious ( spelling?) also rumoured to leave.

I never said it was true, I just said that it is an assumption that could be reasonably made.
Funnily enough your second statement is true but the first one isn't.

I'd sign him because since he came back he's playing at an A grade level. To replace an A grade player in their prime will take a lot more than the third round pick we get for him and more of a wage. Same with Billings. He's a solid B to B+. You want to make sure you can upgrade or you are going backwards. Otherwise we have to rely on kids making quantum leaps which hasn't happened for 20 years and we don't have many kids. Then on top of that Gresham might be okay but he might be a Jordan DeGoey who always misses games. So far he's missed 2 years, I would have hope but not be planning on him as a key pillar of the side.

Being second in coaches vote from 10 games says he's number 2 in the midfield. We have been ruthless, we also have one in one out policy then rely on internal improvement which seems to have not happened at the same rate as sending payers out. Our high priced recruits haven't been an upgrade either. Hill would be no better than Billings but is getting a superstar wage. Crouch isn't playing consistent football and is behind Dunstan. He's like a less defensive version of Dunstan.

We don't have lots of players at other clubs because our best players were B graders getting paid like stars and the fringe players were barely AFL standard. That just shows how terrible our recruiting was at the time. No-one could out pay us and no-one wanted our rejects. Ross and Billings still have to be replaced. If we get a high pick for one so be it but the pushing them out for something to do is just illogical.

Byrnes and Clark have both had midfield minutes and they just aren't ready. Clark has too much of a one way game at the moment and looks like he lacks midfield fitness. He's got the skill set but again relying on maybes isn't a great plan.

I'm wanting finals next year, weakening our list so that we might be able to chase Ben King at the end of next year sounds like waiting in hope for another year. They'll have Steele on a mobility scooter still wanting us to hold on a another year while they fine tune the list.
