I have said this previously
Would you want to play against Dunstan…? Probably yes, good chance you will get the ball back if he was playing for GC…better him than their other talent kicking it.
So he is no loss.
He would be a good fit at port.

I'm not a Dunstan fan , but he has to be given credit - it creamed Martin from the Tigers and also did the same against Neale , he can play.

● 26 disps (13 kicks 13 hballs), 4 marks and 5 tackles in Rd 21 29-pt win over Sydney at Marvel Stadium (7 Aug 2021)
● 29 disps (10 kicks 19 hballs) and 4 marks in Rd 20 31-pt loss to Carlton at Marvel Stadium (30 Jul 2021)
● 29 disps (15 kicks 14 hballs) and 6 marks in Rd 18 13-pt loss to Port Adelaide at Marvel Stadium (17 Jul 2021)
● 29 disps (18 kicks 11 hballs) and 4 marks in Rd 17 32-pt win over Brisbane at Metricon Stadium (10 Jul 2021)
● 27 disps (15 kicks 12 hballs), 5 marks and 9 tackles in Rd 16 9-pt win over Collingwood at the MCG (4 Jul 2021)
● 32 disps (20 kicks 12 hballs), 4 marks and a goal in Rd 15 40-pt win over Richmond at the MCG (25 Jun 2021)
● 26 disps (15 kicks 11 hballs), 3 marks and 10 tackles in Rd 13 6-pt loss to Adelaide at Cazaly's Stadium (12 Jun 2021)
● 26 disps (22 kicks 4 hballs), 6 marks and 13 tackles in Rd 11 20-pt win over North Melbourne at Marvel Stadium (29 May 2021)

He has produced his best career stats of a average of 25 disposals a game and now he is said to be leaving - whoever replaces him has to win as much ball - he is ● Ranked 10th in Stoppage Clearances Per Game in 2021.

If goes well and good but I really feel we need back up because Dunstan is a tough unit and he has the build for it , Gresham and Clark still don't have that strength to really fight for the ball as a inside mid (I feel ) or though Bytel looks to have the build to be a beast and has good ball skills - but needs game time.

Dunstan with that one kick in the last quarter into the forward line tells you everything you need to know as to why he is likely to be shopped

You just knew he wasn't going to get anywhere close to hitting a target .... in fact he kicked it to a 2 on 1 wherein the Geelong players were between where the ball went and his Saints target

He kicked it about 40m away from where it should have gone ....... absolute mind numbing

We ain't going to get any better with him and Ross in the side I am sorry to say ..... because their bad is crushingly bad and completely undoes any of their good especially against better teams

We are desperately crying out for speed and skills thru the midfield

Personally I would package Dunstan and Battle up with a future first for Ben King. Dunstan would be merely steak knives, the Suns would know he's a chance to get delisted, but Battle has potential to not only be a gun onfield in a key position in a mobile forward line but also has character and marketability. I'd like to keep him personally but if we can't develop him properly, he may be have a better time in warmer climes.

We'd have to add this year's first rounder to that deal to get it done

Agree with that for sure , but we do need back up as well when one of our better players go down.

Sun's have told everyone they are looking for a experienced player to go with Ben King , so knowing King is contracted for another year I doubt he will be at the Saints next year and when out of contract they would be wanting 2 high first round draft picks.
Another thing Dunstan is a free agent so you can't tell him where he is going and we will only get what the AFL gives us for compensation.
Battle is 22 and we have only scratched the surface with this kid and why trade him when we are already in need of a key position player.

Yeah 100% we need to get some class in the midfield as to much is left for Steele to do. How we do that with very few draft picks is the question

Dunstan and Ross can both go for a 2nd and a 3rd to round compo as far as I'm concerned.

The positives of this season has shown (1) are recruiters appear to now have a good eye for talent and (2) talented youth like Byrnes, Connelley and Sharman is what will turn us around, not plodders like Dunstan and Ross.

Would also let Billings go if the the compo was somewhere in Round 1 but that's just not going to happen.

he was one of our best players when he came back in with a point to prove, but he needs a chip on his shoulder to get the most out of him unfortunately. He's definitely good depth, just pisses me off when he burns people running past for the handball, really shit play

Well, Luke is on his way.
Not only is he competing for a midfield spot with better skilled though injured players (Clark, Gresham), and the next generation of (also better skilled) players (Byrnes, Bytel) but he also is going to be competing with this year’s crop of recruits (#1dp - let’s say Erasmus/Chesser, and NGA Owens, Windhager who are also mids or can rotate there).
If he gets an offer of $350k+, there’s an end of second round for you. $300k+ will get a third round.
Seeing the ave salary is $330k, an end of second is not out of the question.
If Billings opts out for $650k+, there’s an end of first. $550k+ and that’s a second.
If Ross opts out for $350k+, there’s an end of second.
Given media speculation and Ratt’s presser on Friday, you’d have to be reasonably confident that at least two of the three are gone.
So it’s not hard to see where those picks come from, and this is excluding anything else that might drop out (eg: the Battle speculation).
And of course, we always have the perennial future second.

So:

If all the above comes to pass, along with our current picks, we may have:

An end of first or a second (Billings),
An end of second (Ross),
An end of second or a third (Dunstan),
An end of second (as a guess for Battle),
And the perennial future second.

That’s plenty of picks to swap or use, if we want to go down that path.
Not saying we will, just that Satan may do a mini North if list management believe our future lies elsewhere.

Great post mate
I will need to find Ratts presser from Friday as I missed that one

We won’t trade battle

Hope not, but not so sure we won’t he is not that happy at the minute either
He will get over it. That’s part and parcel of playing footy. He wasn’t playing very good footy for the most of the year and got a lot of free games.

Or thinks he will get a better a go in the right position elsewhere

I know its robbing Peter to pay Paul but with Sincas development this year (probably our most creative player) is it time to get him back into the midfield?

A gun is a top quality player. Battle cant make it into the team even when we have injuries. Would love to see that but no pointers that it will happen. I think he would be the steak knives.

Been disappointing his last 2 games regardless of the stats. Back to his old self. Looked like he couldnt have cared less from my observations.

No.

he has officially arrived for us. Why move him?

I know it has been a shit season. I know we have wildly under performed and been smashed by injuries.

but we have so much to be excited about.

I don’t think trying to manifest another midfielder by shuffling the decks is the answer.

we need another key defender.
we need a better version or Atleast a higher footy IQ of Dunstan.
We need to decide whether to keep or move Battle.

positives. Boy do we have some kids. Highmore Connolly Sharman Byrnes and Bytel all really showed something.

flip side is we saw minimal from Clark Coffield Gresham Paton.

we should be able to add Atleast 2 high potential NGA kids. Plus 1-2 that are projects.
We then get to take a top 10 pick.

the word I heard and I shot a message during the week to a few. Was that we have an interest in Riccardi.

he potentially solves the Key Back issue.

He’s out for the year injured himself
