No to McLean - some better long term options available. Looks like Billings is might be happy with less pay but a longer term. How would people feel about 4 x $500k+ with incentives?
Billings is not worth that.. for $500k as a half forward, he would need to be kicking 30+ goals and many goal assists.. currently he is at best $400k player of not lower..

If he plays on it just wrong , he has had some crippling injuries the past couple years and has the speed on a sloth - what is wrong with Lethlean.

The only thing I can think of is that he is there to provide some sort of barometer for standards and getting the best out of yourself. This is why I want to keep Ross & Dunstan, but couldn't give a crap about losing Billings. If we kept the former two, it would provide depth and the same barometer for training and player standards and then we'd have no need for Geary to sign on. So maybe the club knows we're losing Ross & Dunstan...and will unfortunately be stuck with Billings kicking points and hiding behind shadows for 500 grand a year.

In 2014 WB traded Griffen and pick 6! For Tom Boyd!
they won a flag 2 years later.

2016 Richmond traded Deledio for picks 16 & 51.
They won a flag the following year.

even in the NBA Toronto had the balls to essentially trade Demar Derozan who wanted to stay for Kawhi Leonard, knowing he’d most likely only stay 1 year (which he did)
They won a championship that year and it didn’t matter that he left .

Its ballsy moves like this that we need to be making, and it’s this kind of play it safe mentality that’s got us nowhere for the last decade.

we could have traded (and I wanted us to) a 28 yr old Armo to the tiges for a 1st round pick. Instead we keep him and he does nothing for us and eventually retires injury prone.

Geelong go after Jack Steven, he requests a trade only to be kept for another year and we all know how that ended up.

We have been a perennially weak minded club that overrates it’s players and has nothing to show for keeping them.

it’s time we trade Billings or let him go if the pick/s we receive go toward helping us get someone like Bing next year.

be brave saints ffs.

I liked McLean at Sandy and was hoping we'd rookie him back then. Wouldn't mind getting him from Sydney but wouldn't trade a lot.

I wonder if we'd look at Tom Clurey as a key back option. He's on the fringe at Port, has been a solid player for a long time and still has plenty of footy left in him. Port have been good to us lately!

Tom Cluery is a decent player but Trout and Richo were keen on him so you have to wonder. Seriously though him and Lienart are fringe players after McKenzie turned himself into a gun KPB despite his size. Both Cluery and Lienert are around 26 I think, I looked them up a while back. Port seem easy to deal with and happy to turn players into picks if they have an over supply. Cost would be the only issue.

Our List Manager James Gallagher(South Aust),has done a good job with his recruitment of players playing in Adelaide. Howard,Wilkie,Highmore,Crouch and Sharman all being successful pickups to dates.
Paul Hunter the only flop, but his selection was stop gap at short notice and likely short term.
Tom Clurey could be a decent selection as well in my opinion

Hunter was a panic selection. We sore early that Ryder and Marshall were gonna be out for the start and had to do something. Should never of got rid of Abbott

We have been brave under Lethers. Maybe too brave because we lose players and replace them with guys that aren't much of an upgrade on higher wages. He's culled 3/4 of the list in 3 years. If that's not brave it's foolhardy.

Brave is good, stupid isn't. Dunny, Billings and Seb Ross are all lacking as far as being stars go but Seb and JB have both been well paid players because they were both top 50 players in the comp at one point. JB is boring but solid. Seb has sacrificed his high possession game to become more of a utility back/wingman. Dunny has had an extremely disappointing career too until this year but he's finally playing like a top 20 AFL mid.

Our midfield next year without that lot would be Steele (elite), Jones (inconsistent), Crouch (solid B), Gresh (out for 2 seasons injured), Clark (may get fit enough in the off season), Hanners (broken), Bytel (13 games mostly as a sub), Byrnes (developing on a HHF/wing role) then any new players we draft or trade in. It's not quite the Dogs.

Considering that we have struggled to field a fit side most weeks losing players from an area we have neglected for a decade seems a risky plan. We are probably carrying to many defenders of a similar size and lacking some pieces still.

If we finish bottom 6 next year it will bite us hard. That midfield looks very light on. A lot relies on players having a Jack Steele like break out. Realistically Clark and Gresham are probably most likely to have the extra gear to go up and have enough games behind them. To me you want a bit of cover at least. If the 3 will sign on less you keep them otherwise you are weakening your list for a gamble that doesn't seem to add up.

The Dogs won a GF against the flow and a big part of that was having an insane haul of kids like MacRae, Stringer, Daniel, Libba, Dahlhouse, Dunkley, Johanissen and Bont all playing well ahead of schedule. A few older guys playing career best footy at just the right time and as soon as they had won it they went into a hard rebuild. That's brave, take your premiership winning side and rebuild around your youth.

Abbott never played many games, probably better than Hunter- as for Gallagher- Did he recruit Logan Austin?

Ross and Billing’s top 50 players not even close at their best and as good as Dunstan little spell has been he is no top 20 mid I just think if we keep them we go no where, they have had 7 or 8 years and have taken as no where
If we lose 2 of them or all 3 let’s see what we bring in to replace them

Yeah but we can’t be brave and trade billing’s he is a free agent. Even if we match it I don’t think we are getting a first rounder for him
