I said we didn’t use in 19.....

If we give up this and next it means Allison is the only first rounder in 4 years we’d have to somehow get another first next year
Not worth worrying about. Worst case scenario would be to trade 2023 1st rounder to get back into the 2022 1st round 🤷🏻‍♂️

We could do it this yr, but would need to get a 2022 1st round pick back at some point.

2018 - Max
2020 - Allison

There’s the 2 in the last 4 years, so if we gave up this years & next years 1st for Bing, then we’d need to get one back for next year somehow

Yer I get that that is possible but why put ourselves in that position where we’d have to give something big up to get back in ... just bank the kids this year and do it next year

If we do it this year we are giving up 2 first rounders then potentially a first round talent next year just to make sure we have a pick ... I get we could bundle picks for a higher pick or trade the future first but too difficult for my liking

So far what I have read

Brander being looked at buy the Blues
Max Lynch being looked at by the Hawks
Lipinski wants to go to the Magpies
Dunstan wants to go to the Bombers
A few teams looking at the availability of Long
Ladhams has been told to look around if he wants a #1 ruck position.
Cerra has picked the Blues
Finlayson wants to go back to Sth Aust and has had a medical at Port.
Geelongs Clark wants to go to Fremantle.
Brodie and MacPherson want out of Gold Coast.
Sam Petrevski-Seton wants out of Carlton.
Dawson to Port

A friend's nephew ay?

What'ya think CaptainRisky ?

He's best mates with Caldy and O'Brien from Carlton. House mates with one of them, played VFL for the Kangas and played a year of SANFL with Port and knows big Doogs too. I only see him a few times a year but he's good to chat too. He was a really good junior but missed the cut.

We were amateurs lol. He went for the cash, we got Crouch and basically pulled the offer. What would you call 'stopped communicating' with him? Do they lose his phone number?
We offered a contract, we got Crouch, Essendon offered more, we said, nah, thats fine, we aren't interested any more. Maybe Caldwell should not tell 'everyone' he is going to a club until the papaerwork is signed.

I know who the amateur looks like. Anyway we have seemingly dodge a bullet. Injury prone.

I sounds ike we just stopped responding though, the rest sounds accurate though. Amateur was my word by sounds like he wasn't impressed by the way we just ignored them.

The 'Can't play two 200cm+ forwards' is a lazy narrative.

We currently play our best football with King (202cm) and Marshall (201cm) up forward. So moving Marshall back to the ruck full time, and bringing in Bing to replace Marshall up forward isn't drastically changing the dynamic up forward that we already have.

So, we have tried two 200cm plus forwards and seen that it works really well.

Marshall isn't really a good forward though, the most goals he ever kicked in a season was 13. He actually looks ordinary when he camps forward, he works best when he's mobile around the ground.

Yeah Emma Quayle followed us for the whole period and wrote a big article about it.

Richo kept questioning if McCartin was really what we needed/if it was a knee jerk because of Boyd and how he would cope with his diabetes - think he actually said something along the lines of “how do we know he will handle it at the elite level. He’s know about it for this long already and his skunfolds are still only xxx”

Richo got overruled but as senior coach he 100% should’ve pulled rank.

even more so than that, he doubled down on it after he joined the club and said something along the lines of "how is he ever going to maintain the required level at AFL"

it sounded like he was fine in the off-season but as soon as the season got going he struggled. hence how he could cut weight before the draft but not during the season proper.

Either way, we’re still sacrificing a future 1st pick. Who cares if we’d need to bring 2023’s back to 2022… If we can get Ben now, just get him now 🤔

Someone at the club who warrants a 1st round trade might want out next year…. A lot could happen in a years time

I would be amazed if anything happened with King.
He loses 150k 'Ambassador's money if he breaks his contract.
So say you offer 700k over a number of years, it means 850k first year to cover the 150k.
Anyway King has said he will honour his contract.
He also needs to say he wants to go to a club, Suns just can't sell him.

It seems to be an "open secret" that the Saints will eventually land Ben King - whether that be this year or next. Surely if the Suns' cap squeeze is as tight as being reported, they would have to look at doing the deal this year so they don't lose their other out of contract young stars. Just my two cents - the last thing the Suns need is another mass exodus. Ben King going back to Victoria for family reasons looks better than potentially losing King, Rankine and Lukosius in the same year.

Yeah well he wouldn't be impressed. Maybe his manager should be wary with Essendon and their trading hi jinx.
Possibly Saints thought, the manager was trying to force up the price in a bidding war with Dildoro behind it.
Gallagher is a smooth operator, he would have crunched the numbers, heard the Essendon bid and said nope and then didn't bother as had moved on to Crouch and Higgins and balancing his books.

Deal with Dildoro at your own risk Caldwell's manager.

i think the opposite. i think Joffa outlined perfectly why King will want to stay for 12 more months. i also think the suns want to win games of footy. King leaving now doesnt help that.

next year they'll aim for finals and if they make and he leaves they could attract ready made talent easier. if they dont make finals, the implosion happens before a new coach.

i think it suits us for him to wait 12 months too. his asking price will go down if he is uncontracted. we get 12 months to prepare the cap. we get 12 months of development into a first rounder we take in this draft. if our ladder position improves the pick GC gets is worse.

I'd rather we get Owens then miss out. I'd be looking to trade pick 9 for a couple picks in the 15-25 range. Play it safe imo. From what ive seen Owens will be a jet, and with a first name as Mitchito, he's bound to be loved by the commentators.

I'd rather not over pay for him. I'd not take him inside 20. He's super speculative still. There are only a couple of NGA players that look guns so far and both went high in the draft order. If we miss him we miss him, just chase the best player with our first pick.

If I'm Stewie Dew, I'm not trading any quality out for draft picks.

I'm just reporting what I was told, it could be saving face because he'd told everyone he was a Saint and he jumped on a better offer.

My thoughts exactly. Would be astounded if he left the Suns this year for all those reasons.
As well the Suns have been good to him, you want to honour your contract.

Not questioning you at all gringo. It is disappointing for young men when they are treated like meat at trade time.

Lost that with Covid

Are the same people who don’t want Ben King the same who are still upset Josh Bruce was moved on?
I think it’s more complex than that. Happy with Bruce gone. I can see the point of view that multiple top picks for Bing at the expense of other parts of the ground, plus a huge constraint on the cap, is debatable. I’m still on the fence myself.
