Remember when the trade whisperer account first got made and it was meant to be all mysterious and 'a look behind the curtain' type stuff and now it's got the bloody sponsor in its name and a continental tyres background [emoji1787]

Honestly whoever had the idea to set it up for TR did a brilliant job from a marketing perspective.

I'd rather not over pay for him. I'd not take him inside 20. He's super speculative still. There are only a couple of NGA players that look guns so far and both went high in the draft order. If we miss him we miss him, just chase the best player with our first pick.
Exactly pick the best player at that pick and make sure it's not that 70kg ruckman.
Our 2 NGA's will not be going in the first round , I d put money on it.
Having really pick 11 it is going to be interesting who they pick - this Goater guy seems to be someone who could become a Fyfe or Bont.

Would be like if we were laughing at Geelong getting Steven. The outcome probably ended up similar too, both players beloved by their original clubs and not getting on the park much for their new sides. We wouldn't laugh at Stuv though and the Swans wouldn't laugh at Hanners

I reckon if we'd traded him a year earlier and took a long expensive contract off our books while them throwing us pick backs....well there may have been some dancing and cheering.

Soz. Will tone it down a bit.

I can guarantee that any club that had both Kings would be playing them and they would be winning.

Cameron and Hawkins are probably the closest thing to the finished article. McKay at Carlton was the Coleman medalist and bringing in Curnow beat us but not heaps of others. Riewoldt and Lynch are handy but not the difference. 2 dominant forwards still need supply.

Not true

But we didn't know Jamie Cripps had diabetes when he arrived at the club

I’m trying to remember if Cripps actually had it when we drafted him, or whether it not showed up afterwards.
Either way, there was no way he was hanging around in the east. Was going home ASAP.

Jeromy Cameron cost three first rounders. Bing is contracted. I reckon they would ask for 4

Bing will be out of contract end of next season.

Really? Didn't know that. Hasn't seemed to have affected his career, pretty handy small forward.

Sheez. Maybe we can recruit a third diabetic this season that will be gone in 3 seasons.

Unrelated, what does everyone think of our new slogan "Die Or Beat Us"?

I would be amazed if anything happened with King.
He loses 150k 'Ambassador's money if he breaks his contract.
So say you offer 700k over a number of years, it means 850k first year to cover the 150k.
Anyway King has said he will honour his contract.
He also needs to say he wants to go to a club, Suns just can't sell him.

I agree.

I also think it suits our club to go to the draft this year with many mids available, hopefully get our two NGAs, then we’re pretty stocked. Get Ben next year, when the picks we’re giving up are hopefully nowhere near as good as pick 9.

Still got Ben’s brother, Sharman and Membrey as our main forwards this year.

interesting to hear the GC list manager say this is the most sluggish he's ever seen a build up to a trade period. i think so many clubs are tight cap wise, that not a lot will get done.

Please remind me - what was it that the WCE and us took a drop in last season that the rest of the clubs have to do this year? Was it salary cap spend?

Did you get to the GF?

Adelaide just signed Darren Burgess as high performance coach.

That's a great signing for them
Are the same people who don’t want Ben King the same who are still upset Josh Bruce was moved on?

Not the same, you don't have to offer up 2 FRDP to get Bruce. We couldn't fit him and Max apparently, but people who are hell bent on Ben over midfielders say now it's essential to our prospects....and we have Sharman and Membrey still to work out what to do with and also drafted a tall forward with our first pick last year.

Yeah that was a cracking draft from us. Two Perth boys that couldn't live without their families. Ya reckon a few questions from an adult with half a clue may have elicited that from a couple of 18 year olds.

I know this is just speculative, but disposing of Wilkie like that would shatter the core of the club. Not only is he an exceptionally consistent defender, he is a leader and a clubman who has worked hard to get where he is. Unless he requests a trade back home (assuming in SA) he’s a St.Kilda man. Battle is leaving before him, especially if it’s only for a second rounder.

How about keeping Wilke and trading Webster. Is he really in our starting 22.

He showed a lot this season and could be a great opportunity to cash in.

I think Ben lost the ambassadors money last year because of COVID. The longer he stays there, the more time GC and the AFL will try and keep him there. Clarkson will be there next year too.
It really comes down to what Ben wants, all speculation until then.

I’m saying this without checking but pretty sure we can’t do that you have to use 2 first round picks in a 4 year cycle .. we didn’t use in 19 so we need to use this year ..

For me it makes sense to stock some midfield talent this year and add the cream next year ...

Why only get one if we can get both

The AFL can provide dispensation if a club provides assurances that they will catch up in the cycle in subsequent years. Geelong were allowed to do this a few years ago.
