Highly doubt Gold Coast let Ben King go this season, they’ll actually fold them if they do.

Ben’s value won’t drop next season even if he is out of contract. No brainer for Gold Coast.

Marshall isn't really a good forward though, the most goals he ever kicked in a season was 13. He actually looks ordinary when he camps forward, he works best when he's mobile around the ground.
Get Row the fittest he’s even been and play him as a 200cm mid. Completely revolutionary.
Play Paddy in the ruck, Roma on ball and GOAT + King x2 forward and we win 4 flags in a row. Easy as that

I’ve been thinking and I think Bytel could be a crucial piece of our team challenging for a premiership. He just feels like a finals player. In fact I think his cieling is a little bit higher then the level of Josh Dunkley. He just needs to keep working on his running and exits from stoppages.

Byrnes, 2020 Paton, Sinclair, Higgins, Coffield and Clark are just some who I think we could see flourish in finals intense footy. Idk just a vibe no logic behind it, they just seem like some really solid and pivotal players when locked in (among others of course). If the group lifts, they all lift, and vice versa. All it takes is just a little nudge in the right direction, and our trajectory takes off.

ould not agree more especially in Clark. In 2020 I think he was our best performed players in the finals despite it being his first. In fact I think against the dogs he was better performed then their players too. Just so cool under pressure.

Exactly, the talent is there. The personal is there. Consistent efforts have the ability to bring a lot out of this group. Cannot be underestimated the importance of this off-season for some of our players. Cant complain with the new staffing choices, and our choice to go to the draft and stabilise our group post a tumultuous season after radical lost changes the last couple of years.

This is where we should see true team-wide development, and if we don’t, then we aren’t at the level where we can hope for the ultimate success some day. We just need to reach out and take it. Anything less then a competitive finals series would be a disappointment. I hope those standards are engrained at the club. And we’ll be able to tell if the team has bought in or not. If Steele’s still figuratively alone as the one who stands up when we need it most next year, then write it off. We failed.

Bleak, but I honestly think the ceiling is high enough on this group to expect much more then what 2021 provided. And that’s a great thing.

Bytel has just suffered from lack of game time , last year the VFL was scrubbed and this year only 8 games were played , or though he did play some AFL - 13 games in fact , he only played 7 games over 58% time on field which is nowhere enough for a young kid that needs game time.
This young guy has massive potential and at 21 with only 16 games experience will be something special when give the game time he requires.
He is good by hand and foot and is a very good tackler , once he starts to rack up possessions he will be explosive because the few games he has played he has shown he can be a player that uses the ball better than a lot of the midfielders.

Hunter Clark's year was a right off , the broken jaw just finished his season hopefully next year they give him the time in the middle he needs to make the next step , he is a mid that can be the difference in a game mainly because he is such a good user of the ball and create something from nothing.

People are very harsh and view Clark with the opposite of rose coloured glasses. I think he suffered from being out of sight out of mind. Watch his games against Hawthorn and his final last year. It didn’t help that he was severely injured this year. We desperately need to play him on the ball. With Sinclair’s down back hopefully we can leave him there as he adds a different dynamic to our midfield. Also if we can get him averagin 28 touches plus we’ll be in a good state. Plus we need him challenging for all Australian because that his level at a minimum.
All of this. He’s gotten worse in his absence.

I agree.

However it needs to be more. Melbourne, Richmond and even the Dogs... Complete culture shift.
I thought we were seeing it in 2020. But this year was a complete smack in the mouth for everyone.

Need to be better. Everything needs to be better.

this year was a real eye-opener for everyone, esp the club. we've seen sides have it before. it's a stumbling block, but an important one.
Mental application, we'll be much better for it

Only problem was, he had not actually ACCEPTED our offer.

Injury bust anyway
Yep - we'd agreed to terms, but his manager was still talking to GWS and Essendon and when they both offered a 4 year contract, I think he and his manager expected the Saints to match.

But by then we'd found out about Crouch (and the likely compo figure) and then wouldn't budge on our offer.

The saying is “time kills deals” and it certainly did there

Just on Trade Radio - people need to keep this in mind when they hear about all the prospective "deals" and moves that are supposed to be happening.

Trade Radio goes 13 hours a day for 10 days - so 130 hours. And last year there was a total of 28 trades. Lotta dead air time there!!!!

To all these posters wanting PM’s from George, stavro#4, Stewart66 or any other person that has heard a rumour from the club, surely you guys realise this is like opening a christmas gift days in advance, so you miss out on the surprise on the day?

FMD! I hate surprises, PM me too.

Would much rather Brayshaw though. Gets a lot of hard ball and disposal is better. Ross is getting close to past it. If the club gets 2 midfielders of any quality . Ross is in the magoos.

He's not playing mids at the moment he's playing a mobile flanker/wing role. Richmond lost a few seniors to age and injury and had to rely on youth to fill the holes and plummeted. We have to start to feed in kids now ..... our buying up older talent has kept us mid table but they won't improve us in the future. We are in that know quantity spot midfield wise and hope that a few guys step up or some kids defy the usual trajectory.

I honestly think we aren't hell bent on finals next year and our plan is longer term. They just want to keep fans buying memberships in the mean time. It's the only way losing a few older guys makes sense. I just don't see where they think the kids to do that midfield rebuild are coming from. They must rate the academy kids pretty high and think that Bytel and Byrnes are definite stars.

I don't think anyone is harsh on him. Everyone thinks he's talented. He's just not capable of walking into the midfield yet. On pure talent he's a stand out, on effort and fitness not so much, He's shown glimpses like that Hawks game where you are hoping you've seen the future. He's in his 5th season next year, he's on that cusp of being a player that steps up a soars or turns into another GOP that could have been anything. He might suffer from looking too casual but he's not ripping games apart which doesn't help. Hopefully next year.

I wonder if the Saints can ask for special access to one or two of Owens and Winghager if they go within the top 20? I don't see why we couldn't ask the question, and we'd have a bloody good argument to be given it! Having never benefited from the NGA's we're a chance to be robbed of one with out last chance. To make things worse, the teams between 16-20 are all top 4 sides this season, or Richmond, who've won 3 of the last 5 premierships. We'd hardly be "depriving" a cellar dweller". If the Suns can get a bunch of picks for incompetence, why can't we get this? After the years of development we've put into them we'd only be asking for what was ours as of the end of last year.

I think an under-rated thing to consider also is where to Owens and Windhager want to play? This time last year they were dreaming of a spot at St Kilda. Only a month or so from the draft period they could be deprived of that through no fault of their own. My hope is they interview poorly and present themselves as "go home" risks, considering their connection to the club.
Satan needs to persuade Owens and Windhager to attend the next COVID protest wearing Trump T-Shirts and get arrested. Club to pay their fines - watch them slide down the draft order......

Really that's his thing, he plays best as a ruck who will take the clearance himself and adds another tall link up player through the mids. If he could get his tap work 25% better he'd be getting close to an elite ruckman. I think like you said though he might need to learn a new secondary role. I'm not sure he could play mid at that size but some kind of role that utilises his game when he's not rucking would be good. Doing the McEvoy defensive sweeper seems to work for some rucks.

Sinclair looks ready now and has a game that suits finals. Higgins looks a big game player type and the others are probably a bit early to tell. To me we really need Clark to become an elite mid if we are even challenging for finals and/or any of the other mids for that matter.
