They have Cripps, Cerra will get there, they have Brodie Kemp who is a bit of a Bytel type injury bargain and Dow started to show that he's not a spud this year. If they can get some run out of Williams they might finally come good with some decent coaching and games into youth. The pieces look good on paper but they have to overcome the mental stuff.

In other words, much like us.
Sorry, I think Cripps is not the star he was, sad as it is, but he’s carried that club.
We will finish higher than them next year, mark my words.

Cripps is on the decline. Cerra's a good player. Never heard of Kemp. Carlton supporters I know were saying Dow is still a bust. Williams good. But they just sacked a coach, I don't think they are as good as you might give them credit for.

They are shit on field but they have heaps of good pieces in place now. KPPs are pretty good especially if Curnow can get on the park. McKay is a genuine dominant tall forward, Weitering and Jones are good. Rebound off half back is excellent with Saad and Docherty and potentially Williams. Ruck looks set into the future with DeKoning, Walsh is a genuine star mid too. To me they look like small forwards are iffy and maybe a second genuine taller forward.

They look like the type of list that could shoot up quickly in the next 2 years. Cerra was a good get for them. I rated their list higher than Essendon's.

They are definitely in our pool, both are in that improvement zone as is Essendon, Sydney and GWS etc. All of them need some youth to step up and the club that has the best internal improvement should jump quickly at some point.

We don't deserve sympathy for that, we traded down picks in that era as well.

We had pick 12 and 13 (Goddard compo) in the draft in 2012. Swapped 12 for Tom Lee and 24 (Nath Wright), 45 (Josh Saunders).
Not done yet traded 13, 36, 55 for Tom Hickey and 25 (Spencer White) and 46 (traded for Trent Dennis-Lane).

Then did the same with Milera and Saad as well. Pelican started the trout era off with a bang by diluting picks in an era that the franchise clubs had already decimated.

To be fair, the 2012 draft was terrible and probably a good chance to try and be creative. Aside from Brodie Grundy who slid by alot, there was not many decent players in the first 2 rounds past the top 10. Kristian Jaksch and Jessie Lonergan went at our original picks 12 and 13

Some Clubs can afford the luxury of a first round pick not playing for 2 seasons. We are not one of those clubs..
Allison is the only first round pick out of those guys and he was very late in the first.

The others are either late picks or MSD.

Bytel was given every opportunity this year. I think he'll have to step up again if he's going to cement a spot.

Byrnes can play other roles luckily but I still think he'll have to fìght for a spot, same with Connolly.

Allison looked a long way off this year and Heath seems is going to have to put a lot of work in to get to AFL level so it's a big ask for him to do it by mid year.

According to Edmund he still thinks Ross will sign after how confident Ratten was in his last interview.

He did say he thought it would have been done by now though but hasn't heard of any clubs chasing his signature.

Unless he and his management are keeping a secret it doesn't seem likely he will leave.

That news has not improved my day?

We have only started our full on rebuild three years ago when Lethlean arrived. Carlton should start to move up soon. Their list just needs time now, they have most of the pieces in place.

Disagree. Carlton’s list is bog average. Massively overrated.

They have 6-7 really good players and the rest are genuinely ho-hum. They won’t be playing finals.

Bevo clearly doesn't rate English. Played Lewis Young in the ruck this season and couldn't wait to get Martin into the side. From all report he wants to go back to W.A

I think a pick in the 20's may get the job done. Marshall CHF rotating with English would be an ideal scenario and has our ruck stocks sorted for the next 10 years.
English reminds me a lot of Tom hickey
Lots of talent
Not a level of mungrel needs to be top level competitive ruck on a consistent basis. Would rather ladhams with Marshall and the two king boys
Trade Excess players for one of the Gold Coast midfielders who is flying in 2 years time (Noah Anderson)
Pick some young kids to fill our gaps.
Done

It was a pretty thin one but to get nothing from it. Richmond got McIntosh and Vlastuin out of it. The top end was pretty solid.

They have better top end we have a more even spread.

He's not a great ruck, he's a very good tall roamer but not really a great KP. He's a bit like Marshall.

Rendell is off his head.

Just heard him say on tradio that Dusty could come back and be a 60+ year stay at home forward…
That’s not to say I don’t rate Dusty, I do, but jeez.

Also they’re conversing over the Mckay twins vs King twins. Damo went the McKays.

The McKays are finished articles so it's easy to jump on them but Kings have a higher ceiling IMO.

Do we need a tap ruckman..or just a backup option? Also are there many tap ruckman out there..? I just don’t think we should go into 2022 with Paul Hunter as a backup, his game vs Melb this year was embarrassing.
Also Paddy should be planned to play weeks 1-5 (build momentum) and 10-14 and 20-27, if he is flying we are a top 4 chance (injuries pending of course).

look i also agree, if Sharman becomes a star, we should ignor Ben and trade for Noah, we have 12 months to find out.

When you think of how tall he is, his hitout production numbers are actually abysmal. I play a category based fantasy footy game which hitouts play some part, and even games where he has played as the sole ruck you see him get low to mid 20s in hitouts. It's actually mind-boggling how easily he gets beat in the ruck.

It was a shithouse draft.

That is one the big things with rebuilding, being lucky enough to have a good draft when you get picks.

12 months on and those 2 picks gets you players like Cripps, Cam McCarthy or Zak Jones

Yep
I thinks it’s been mentioned but if Flynn is staying at gws, Briggs looks like the man we should target 200cm and will get games on our list

Their top end is not better. That’s a myth. They have Walsh, McKay, Weitering, De Koening (who will be a star) and Cripps (who is in decline).

Saad is OK. Williams can be OK. Jones is good but will be 31 next year. They will soon have Cerra who is a nice player but isn’t elite.

The rest are average. McGovern is a bust. Dow is a bust. O’Brien is a bust. Stocker is speculative. Setterfield is barely average. Petrevski-Seton has stalled and wants out. Docherty and Plowman are no better than plodders. And the rest are making up the numbers.

Seriously. They are the most over hyped mob in the AFL.

That's still a better top end than us. They have three players who are AA standard in Walsh, McKay and Weitering. We have one. Two if King comes on as we expect. It doesn't make their list better, but they do have more A graders at the moment.
