The pressure on Ben King is going to be immense. Total pap feeding frenzy

Correct. If we wants out then it’s going to be a bloody difficult 12 months for him if he stays there next year. The media will drive him mad.

I hope so, he needs to get fit still. He looks like a suburban footballer at the moment.
Yea that’s Definetly fair although I would say pure muscle strength doesn’t always equate to footy strength. Like Swanny, GAJ had a natural core strength and strength through the hips even though they weren’t as bulky say as danger. Clark often breaks tackles, and shrugs tackles because of this. Although I get your point.

People bagging English need to realise that he is only 22 and is still looks like a bean pole. What was Gawn doing at the age of 22? Some ruckman take a while to grow into their body and get that aggression.

He has talent, can mark, can kick and moves well around the ground. His hit outs aren't great because he still needs to grow into his body.

Is a year younger than Marshall and his stats aren't too dissimilar to his.

I think bulldogs really struggle to develop ruckmen too. Seems to be an ongoing issue for them

Interesting that with depth and no injuries they still opted to play the kids and still won almost every game

They played a handful of kids which nearly every team does. Even Geelong usually bring in 3 or 4 every year.

Too outside. He makes Brad Hill look like a contested beast. Doubt a club picks him up. If he wasn’t a first round pick he would generate zero discussion.

He looked good as a junior but is very outside. Guys that don't have supply but can't win their own ball are screwed. Even Hill looked like poo when he was on a wing with us because he needs to be fed. Carlton have a similar pressured midfield that like to move the ball long not piss around with it.

I think the AFL just sees the GC as one large academy right now that needs to be supported to facilitate the flow over of junior talent into all clubs in years to come.

I don’t subscribe to the notion the AFL wants them to win a flag, but rather the AFL wants them to be able to generate their own talent and the current turnover of interstate talent is an acceptable means to an end.
It was an AFL f**ck up from day 1 and should never have happened. Poor legacy for a couple of AFL administrators. Wonder if they will ever tell us how many dollars they have actually wasted up there?

Usually in about their 3rd year players all of a sudden get through a preseason and look like footballers with real definition and a shedding of the fat layer. They look like they've transformed from kids into men. Clark still looks like he's just starting out. I don't need him to get stacked, he looks tired and like he could get cardio fit which would also tighten his body up.

He's certainly not alone at the Saints though.

Even next year they will have us over a barrel. We can't walk him through the PSD and all we have is to give them close to what they want. They also need to scare off all the other raiders coming for their kids so it's a test case for them. The AFL will be on their side as well. There isn't going to be much sentiment to get him to us on the cheap and it will get messy.
Like to be a fly on the wall if big Benny kicks 50 or 60+ next year. Then we will see some money coming out of the lockers.

Not many pure outside players find success anymore. You need to also have a high level of toughness & go when it’s your turn.

For me mids when you the flag. If Lever and May were on the receiving end of that centre square demolishing they would not have stood a chance just like the dogs defence.
Have to agree with the snake on that. I said virtually the same 3/4 days ago. Dees got some easy ball in the forward line against a dogs defence that went missing from the first minute of the game. Dogs were cooked before the game. If you think you can win a flag with 3 top midfielders , you would be mistaken.

Yep, that would be pushing his contract up sky high. No matter how much he loved us growing up, an extra $400k PA x 5 years would be hard for anyone to pass up. I wouldn't be surprised if we have a real crack at him this year for just that reason.

If that was the case you'd almost talk them around with taking King, Brodie, McPherson and Fiorini off them to free cap space to keep others. It fills our list up with players who may still have a bit of scope to play good footy and gives them a chop out on salary cap issues. Let the fillers finish their generous contract at the Saints and delist the shit ones when they end.

I'm not keen on chasing King but if we have to get him let it be for the least we can get him for and maybe gamble on some steak knives.

Hill did for years but you really need to be in a side with enough talent to carry a crab.

Case in point, Jack Billings. Hasn’t become the player we thought he’d become because he is far more outside than we thought he was. Transition to the midfield was & is never gonna happen

And open space on the field. There no wondering why Hill was great at Hawks & Dockers - plenty of space on those deep wings

Spot on. I’d be more comfortable with Leo Connolly with ball in hand late in a big final than Luke Dunstan.

Back the kids in, we’ve got enough peak age talent to support them.

That kick from Leo in the back pocket when he kick it 45 on his left across the goals under immense pressure resonates with me.
Also when he kicked an absolute dart to Ro. Once he gets to 50-100 games he will be our best kicker.

I think most sides have a good outside mid but you have to be able to gut run.

Yeah, you need to be super fit and run end to end now days. he might be best to try to do a Hill an move to a back pocket and use run and carry. I guess they have Saad and Docherty though so doubt he makes it there.

Wonder what Jeremy Finlayson would cost? Seems to be pushed out of GWS now. He is only 25 and can play every fwd, ruck and back at different times . I think a big upgrade on Hunter , Frawley and Mckenan .
Think I heard he wants to go to SA as he and his partner are about to have their first baby and she's from there, her parents are there etc...
