I’d consider trading coff for a shot at drafting an elite mid but I don’t think his value would be anywhere near that after a poor year.

Our off-field team has been in some serious form when it comes to trading week the last couple of years. We have gone out and brought in some really quality players mostly at respectable prices. We have been efficient, smart and reassured in our strategy. It’s not just internal either, the whole industry has even acknowledged our efforts over the last two years.

This year, the strategy is get the **** into the draft … and maybe improve on some fringe players through trade/FA. AKA, let’s see if the off-field team can weave its magic in trading picks just like it has in bringing in players. Draft night 2021 (November 24th) will be a huge one for the immediate future of the club.

A game a couple of years ago we need to kick a goal to win it’s less than thirty seconds on the clock. We’re heading in the right direction with their defenders caught short and Long gets the ball about 70m from goal. He then proceeds to roost the ball into low earth orbit chewing up about 13 seconds of hang time and giving the oppo defenders ample time to flood back and smother the game. I nicknamed him Bombit after that and it tells you all you need to know about his football brain.
Apart from that he’s not a bad player.

Not a chance in hell this trade period but I'd be priming us for moore next trade period.

Stash the coin. Run with a temp CHB option.

Then go all in on Moore early next season.

I'd be doing this more so than BING.

As for ladhams buyer beware... somethings off.

Also very surprised SPP name hasn't come up for a move out. Not necessarily us but just interesting port aren't moving on from that.
I %100 agree with the Moore angle. The filthe are just starting a rebuild after all.
Hopper in 2 years (RFA) also twigs my interest.

Steele is an interesting one.

Im of the firm belief that he is the player he now because of his early development at GWS under the guidance of Leon Cameron, Lenny Hayes & Luke Power, and on-field mentoring from Cal Ward & Ryan Griffen through the Giants academy & his first 2 years

Who’ve our young mids been coached by & learnt from? Richo & Kingsley as coaches, with Ross, Stuv on field. Eeewwww 🤢
They called him Pig at gws, not sure they were getting the most out of him or his development

Didn’t say I’d do it. Thought of it & posted to gather opinion 👍🏼
For the right price I'd trade him, not commanding a first 22 place, has a desired trait, intercept marking, but not contested, not good defensively.
With a full list he struggled to get a game.

We hold on to him if we can't get another tall defender.
We hold on to him if he's doing the extras to lift himself.

If he has another year like this one, he's out of contract out of team and running out of time, his trade value drops from a first to Scrimshaw levels.

I'd love to be in the exit interview, because that would tell me a lot, and I'm tired of worrying about mid range players. Letting Acres go hasn't hurt and if Coff is looking elsewhere it's time.

If you listen to the AFL Fantasy Traders interview you'd know that its a reference to him being a fantasy pig which means racks up an enormous amount of the ball and fantasy points. Indulging in tons of the ball

He was called pig long before he was a good fantasy option. Just happens to be a nice coincidence.

No it isnt
He was called pig because he ate too much (loved food), so the gws garbage about development of Steele is just ridiculous.

Any interest in Jay Rantall from Collingwood?
Uncontracted and seems to not being offered much of a contract
Former pick#40 who has looked very handy at VFL level and been played out of position when going to AFL (hence his stats look crap)
Inside outside mid, former basketballer, runs all day.
Wont get much of a look in to a midfield of Adams, Pendles, Sidebottom, Daicos x2, Macrae, Crisp.

Not sure we have much to offer around the mid-late 3rd rounder but if we end up with extra picks it could be an option.

When Steele came to the club he wasn't at AFL condition fitness wise. I reckon Richo was good for a few of our players especially Steele and Hunter Clark. He gave them tough love and dropped them a couple of times often to the dismay of fans but I feel Richo made the penny drop for them to work hard and make them the players they are today..

Good shout. Kent is statistically better than Long in basically everything except tackling; and if we keep him it will be on the basis that he plays VFL unless we have injuries or he is absolutely smashing down the door; not this will he / won't he with Long.

I think from Long's perspective it's a great idea to get a fresh start, he has suffered from being played all over the park. He could win a Brownlow next year playing for Essendon and it wouldn't bother me greatly because there's no way he'll be winning one for the Saints in 2022.
Longs hit on Brayshaw rnd 23 is exactly why he should be kept and developed into and intimidating hff. His aggression is something we lack

and Hunter Clark is an midfielder
Nothing else

If Riley Beveridge’s article is accurate, Long will be traded if we get “a suitable offer”.

I’m wondering whether that offer will be a pick in the 20s. If so, it would fit in with the suggestion that we are looking for an extra early round draft pick.

Pick 9 and the Ben Long pick in exchange for Brisbane’s picks 14 & 18. Not sure if Brisbane would do that but that is one possibility. The other is another player is packaged with pick 9.

It’s possible we are worried that Owens or Windhager could be pinched with a late teens draft pick. It’s also possible that we genuinely believe that this draft is wide open and taking the downgrade is worth it.

I think think days of downgrading picks are over.

We need to be getting high up the draft order if anything. Similar to Melbourne with Jackson.

When we drafted Coffield I felt that if we couldn't turn him into a player then we might as well just shut the club down.

He has so many attributes that transition well to AFL.

If we can't utilise those, then we have bigger issues. Issues that are not fixed by trading and redrafting. We'll just run into the same problem with the next guy we draft.

Instead of thinking coffield won't make it we instead should be asking what we are doing to make sure he does make it.

In Dunny's words "the coach didn't rate me" is all there is to it IMHO.
Ratts made it perfectly clear when he took over that if you can't kick then you won't be playing for StKilda, and Dunny has been on the outs since then.
Nothing to see here AFAIC. Loved Dunny and hope he gets another gig but I want a premiership thanks.
Luke was playing for Luke.
Therefore he has to go
