Do your best 22 and then list notable absences. I dont see how someone like Ross is even wanted anymore...

Paton Howard Wilkie
Webster ? Sinclair
Hill Steele Dmac
Billings Membrey Gresham
Butler King Marshall
Ryder Crouch Jones
Higgins Clark Byrnes Coffield

Players that could justify a game:
Sharman Connolly Geary Long Highmore Hanneberry Bytel Wood Battle

Probably highlights why players like Long and Battle are also in discussions on a trade.

Then add in a high first rounder which we will want to atleast blood. Gonna make things super competitive.

After stabilising the list with senior talent NOW is DEFINITELY the time to trade out some players and recycle through through draft. Even if the call is a 50/50 one and or a young player last taken with a decent pick.

Nows the time to take a punt. High risk. High reward.

Webster, Howard, Wilkie
Sinclair, Battle, Highmore/Coffield
Hill, Steele, Clark
Higgins, Membrey, Billings
Gresham, King, Marshall
Ryder, Crouch, Jones

Bytel, Butler, McKenzie, Byrnes (Highmore/Coffield)

Leaves: Geary, Wood, Long, Connolly, Sharman, Allison, Hannebery

Plenty there to work with.

Was it Ronke at Sydney who came in for Buddy and kicked 7 - and then never did much again. I wouldn’t be locking Sharman in as best 22 just yet.

Very true. There’s just a vibe around him though, you gotta admit that Sharman has been consistently effective since he first set foot on an AFL oval. Ended with 4 goals on a defensively minded Freo team trying to make finals with King out of the forward line. 10 goals in like 3.5 games. The hype is huge going into 2022.

The other factor is that he’s maturer then a newly blooded 18 year old and has had to work for his spot. Similar to Highmore, these types just mentally seem like they are prepared to put in the work and not go FIGJAM. Let’s see how that pans out, but for what they cost, it’s a worthy risk.

To me he looks like he's being pushed to play a role when he looks best playing with freedom. A guy we know is a financial sponsor at the Dogs through his family business. He gets to the club a lot and reckons Bevo is a gun coach because he tries to get players to find their flair. He encourages the players to do things that make the footy they play free and fun. Long looks like the type that needs that kind of environment. He looks bored and restrained. When he used to go for screamers and tackle like a maniac or snap impossible shots he was glorious. He looks straight jacketed.
A mate of mine was drafted in the first round to geelong years ago. Gun HFF/mid. Obviously got no midfield minutes at geelong because....geelong. He had to play a role on the HFF operating only in a particular triangle on the ground. Obviously taking away all natural instincts and creativity.
Richo looked like he was all about role rather than instinct and flair. Billings looks like it’s been flogged out of him.
only have to look at Steele to see what letting a player of the chain can do

FWIW, I was told Dawson would leave Sydney back at the end of July due the gulf between what they could pay him & what he’s actually worth

Same Swans guy who told me that when the Saints enquired about Hannebery mid 2018, the entire room of Swans footy dept cheered & burst out laughing - couldn’t believe their luck & couldn’t pack his bags for him fast enough

I couldn’t give a **** if people don’t believe info that gets passed on, but people getting their panties in a twist if things don’t happen need to get a grip & reassess their life if they’re getting that worked up about ‘Footy trade whispers’👍🏼

It's funny, occasionally Skunk will drop one of those marks on the wing and it turns out better because he has to go quickly.
It’s funny that we bemoan the no thinking long bomb into the forward 50 but that’s when Membrey’s best at delivering. He ends up taking ages to think then long bomb it to a set up defence anyway. Coaches need to speak to him about being prepared to just get the ball in there ASAP if he can’t spot another target in 2 secondsp

I assume you're taking the piss about the Swans all cheering and laughing about Hannebery leaving. The bloke is a club legend, if you actually think their footy department would treat him so disrespectfully then I suppose you'll believe anything. But you're taking the piss right?

That is 100% how it was told to me. This client of mine sat face to face with me & that is exactly how it was expressed.

Why would I bother making that up!?

I don't think you can get rid of both Long and Battle, They're the aggressive type that can spark a team and getting rid of both is crazy. If you did you would be left with Kent as that type of player and (to me) Battle is a much better and younger player than Kent.
I was thinking that Membrey could become a permanent swing player who plays off the wing/bench, That would have Battle play Membrey's role along side Sharman and King with Marshall/Ryder. You could also rotate Battle and Membrey for flexibility.
The biggest problem when trying to get out of the back 50 has been a marking forward who could move the ball well along the wing and as we know both Membrey and Battle are good kicks with decent tanks.
So my best 22 would look like this:

B: Paton, Howard, Highmore
HB: Hill, Wilkie, Sinclair
C: Membrey, Gresham, Billings
HF: Battle, Ryder, Sharman
F: Butler, M. King, Higgins
Foll: Marshall, Steele, Clark

Int: Byrnes, Bytel, Jones, Crouch
Emg: McKenzie, Webster, Kent, Wood
4 mids on interchange?

Skunk is very unfairly maligned on here for some reason. Yes he does my head in when he gets the ball on the wing & waits an eternity to move it on but he’s critically important to the team.

Yes we have #SuperCooper as a promising young tall but Skunk is still a crucial part of our forward set up not to mention a wonderful club man.

I don’t disagree, but if we’re looking at our list profile, we have a number of mid sized forwards with varying output. While Skunks is clearly the highest it’s not elite, and could be replaced by the growth of another player (namely Sharmen, Battle or Wood). Admittedly, these 3 are speculative, but with a fully fit Ryder (or capable replacement) you suddenly have Roma, King, Sharman & Membrey all trying to fit in the same forward line with 2 small forwards and potentially a resting mid or two.
If Membrey had interest as was open to going, I think we could absolutely covert the loss with what we have on our list.

Higgins X 2?

Are the clubs that like him in that range though?

Sounds like we need a new thread where we create an in depth analysis of the best draftees compared to the clubs with the picks just to figure out the likelihood of loosing him. Idk whether to lose my shit yet or not 🤣
