Not only that, you are comparing him to a champion. No offence but I dont see the point in comparing the career path of Gresham to Ablett who played 357 games at a very high level not counting his individual awards and kicked a shedful of goals. Maybe a Toby Greene or Robbie Gray that way the expectation is a bit more realistic.
I never compared their output, simply their playing styles. I think there’s absolutely merit in comparing their playing style and I don’t see any comparison in style between Gresham and the two players you’ve mentioned.

Collingwood going the "kick the can down the road" option. Interesting.
Getting Daicos Double Jr. you'd think will improve them, you think ? .....later thought - they are also shopping Mason Cox which if they manage that for pick 100 will also improve them.

Sad to say it, but I can’t remember a year where there has been so little contribution from ITK’s.
In years gone by we’d heard plenty of speculative trades from credible sources that at the very least gave us something to talk about.

I'd prefer to find a Dusty/Petracca and have Steele be our Oliver. I see more similarity there than with Petracca. Doesn't have the dynamic agility or burst pace. Don't try and force a star contested beast into a role he's not suited to

See if you asked me IO consider Dusty to be a contested beast. Just gets the pill and runs through and past blokes.

Steeley isn't far removed from that. Dusty just does more spectacular stuff and has done it at a ridiculous high level for a long time.

I think we'd all like to find blokes of that ilk. As would 15 other teams!

No Grand Final week functions has decimated the grapevine!

ITK: "We will end up with F*** All." ? Not much trading this year me thinks due to list sizes and cap dollars (covid).

Yup just do it - he was that bad & squibbed more than several contests. There are non negotiable in footy. At least Dunstan gives his all. As much as I admit Dunstan isn’t up to it in a finals side he bled for the club.

Not quite sure Ratts sticking fat with Hill was justified. Do you know the impact it had on the other players, teams values & culture? Perhaps there were compromises at the expense of keeping Hill in the side.

The Dees made tough calls on a number of senior players throughout the year. Even their full forward couldn’t get into the side. They had to earn their spots. One things for sure, Hill didn’t earn his spot. He was given a free ride.

Have a look at any player who was dropped during the first half of the year at the expense of Hill. There’s your scapegoats.

Who? Can't be bothered looking it up

Lots of assumptions there. Hill's worst game (when he did squib it twice) was the belting at the hands of Richmond. Dunstan also played and was atrocious.

Dunstan bleeding for the club is such a load of BS. He was a plodder and too many loved him simply because they love the underdog.

Melb kept Brown in the VFL because they were steamrolling teams and didn't have a spot for him. Can't recall any other tough calls outside of Jones... and he was cooked 12 months ago. They got him to 300 and put him out to pasture.

At one stage we had every single fit player outside of Allison either in the team or picked as an emergency.

I agree that Hill was on shaky ground early in the season but the cupboard was bare mate.

If you saw the running he does and the space he was making, it made sense to give it to him more, most of the time he was ignored and we would bomb it to a pack down the line. Static.

We drafted him so he could receive the ball, if not what in hell did we get him for.

As for on non negotiables, he was terrible before the bye, after that he was asked to play HBF and was very very good. And he did not shirk his responsibility in tackling.

I will accept he deserved a whack for his terrible games in the first half of the season, but the second half, co-incidently when we had some better players back, he looked so much better.

People can blame the club for recruiting Hill, but he wasn't recruited to be Jack Steele. Don't blame Hill for something he is not. As for a HBF being easy, give me a break, no position is easy. One thing you wont have is a direct opponent so you can run around as much as your tank will let you. Perfect for Hill and he showed so much better form in the second half.

it is just wrong to blame him for wanting Hill to be the matchwnner. He isn't and never has been.
Obviously our players should try and get the ball into the hands of players like Hill when he is a good option. He is a receiver and usually a really nice kick and a good get and go player. Still seemed over the top the emphasis to get the ball to him.

Me personally don't expect him to be a contested player. His tackling definitely improved with us.

It just looks like he struggles to find his flow with us to me. We definitely need to learn how to use him better as he is a gun player. Also on big $'s so wed want to make the best of it.

If the club reckons Dunstan "wasn't part of the plan going forward" why haven't they de-listed him? OOC and an UFA - cost to the Saints in de-listing him is zilch.

All this came to head AFTER he was dropped for the last game and replaced by a player who had under performed in exactly the same role for weeks on end and had barely played for the previous 6 weeks.

Now, unless you are deliberately trying to p*** someone off that's very poor player management.

Why would we delist him when there's an outside chance he signs during FA and we get something back?

He'll be a DFA and can sign where he wants (if anyone wants him) after the 1st list lodgement.

You're just exaggerating to make you own opinion sound better. Bytel spent weeks languishing at the medical sub... and only had a handful of VFL games to push his way into the team. Gets a full game, goes head to head with Mundy and shows he's got a bright future.

I'm at a loss why anyone would want Dunstan over a super young talent like Bytel. Bizarre.

He's getting to Hanners level of contract now. 2 years with handful fo games on big money. He's probably a long term injury off being Paul Ahern.

Ahern did multiple ACLs.

Gresh has had a back stress fracture and an achilles. Totally unrelated injuries.

Would be more concerned if he was doing constant soft tissues.

Agree to disagree. It’s not like I need to justify my position any further. I’m not the only person that believed Hill should’ve been dropped regardless of who was available to replace him. A few Saints legends thought the same way.

No one will convince me that Bolton would have been anything other than a complete disaster at St Kilda. Benefitted greatly from a great situation at Richmond, which started just as he arrived.

Those who rate Hunter Clark will be proven right.

That ship has sailed. We ain’t getting anything in return for Dunstan. A club will simply sign Dunstan outside of free agency as a rookie or in the PSD AFTER we end up delisting him. Fairly obvious it wasn’t a very good separation. No way he goes back to the club, he wouldn’t have it. Ratts wouldn’t have it either. I’ve accepted we ain’t getting jack for him.

Regarding Dunstan vs Bytel: I’m happy to move on from Dunstan however if we were playing in a prelim tomoz I know who I’m taking into the 22 out of those two. Bytel has some potential however he hasn’t achieved anything. It would be nice if he had at least demonstrated an ability to grab the footy 25-30 times. I have some hope but right now he’s a speculative late pick - most don’t work out. Yes, I know he was rated highly as a 16 year old.

I'm not arguing he didn't deserve to have a spell.

Just that we had sweet FA to replace him.

Saints legends or not.

If we're playing a prelim tomorrow then I'm not happy with taking a bloke in who will undoubtedly turn the pill over at crucial times.

Getting it 25 times & giving it back 12 of them ain't a great result.

Anyway, lets move on.

Dons have spoke to Dunstan today- looking for depth and some grunt

So interesting considering I heard Josh Mahoney on the radio just Friday morning saying that they weren’t really interested - they have enough midfield stocks.

And the previous post to this he was upset because the likes of Kent and Lonie were still on the list and Dunstan wasn't.

Now that it has been pointed out that Dunstan was never delisted and was in the same boat as the others (before he had a hissy fit and said he won't accept a one year deal) hes upset because he hasn't been delisted?

Players will feel hard done by when a club chooses to look past them so they can develop players.

I'd prefer that option than the alternative of slowing the development of good.youjg players and risk losing them to other clubs just so we can run with an average midfield.
