Probably worth remembering that Starcevich still only averaged 12 disposals a game for us this year. He is not a conduit out of defense and whilst he might improve that side of his game he still remains primarily a defense first and second player. I want to improve the defensive side of our defensive unit but I think we need to consider the offensive side as well.

I think his Ave disposals are a reflection of how he was asked to play more than anything.

He's never been much of an accumulator in the reserves or underage.

Given he's been in an AFL system for years now I'm sure he'd get 20+ if he played as a mid.

Daniher for a speedy midfielder makes us premiership favourites IMO.

Methinx there are people that forget how much having Joe improved our other forwards, and how he betters our structure. First year here, too.

He has never been an elite midfield prospect but has turned himself into an elite small defender. Not sure I want to take him out of the area he excels in in the hope that he might get 20 disposals a game in the midfield (which would be below what we would need from him playing that role). I just do not see it as an equation where we come out ahead.

Is he really fit? Experience would say he doesn't win a lot of the footy.
I had a similar thought around his fitness and while this is not a completely thorough investigation (as you can only see the top 5 players on the ground), on the Telstra tracker Starcevich is one of the few Brisbane players to make an appearance.

This at least shows he has the fitness to run midfielders minutes most weeks, however I am also skeptical about his move into the middle, mainly because it doesn't really seemed like it's been flagged by anyone inside the club. (Happy to be corrected on this one)

Yes.

His experience is as a lockdown defender. If he was averaging 12 touches as an offensive HBF then I'd agree with you.

Why take a guy, who in all respects should have at least been in the top 40 AA calculations, out of an area he is excelling in? Second year down back, leave him and enjoy the best part of 10yrs as a mainstay in our backline.

Seeing him force his way out of traffic makes it enticing to put him in the middle and see more of the same.

Could be like Tom Stewart in the backline though.

So, because he doesn't play as an offensive defender then he should be able to?

Bit of Schrodinger's cat here

He has a good kick, strong mark, good burst and speed - all attributes that would make him a good midfielder or half back flanker.

I wouldn't be looking to move Starce from the backline. Robbing Peter to pay Paul. Let's just recruit a natural midfielder, which he isn't.

Not gonna happen. Schrodinger not coming to Brisbane - just resigned with the Cats.
I don't believe it, Cats would not sign him, Schrodinger is only 32 years of age.

Died at age 74. Sounds like their perfect signing.

Given the fact that Birch has just retired, I doubt we will see a midfield move from Starce next year.
Maybe for the 2023 season if the new backline settles in 2022. And also with the likelihood of Robbo not having much left after next year.

Yeah but which cats are going to turn up for game day? The live ones or the dead ones?

Reason we all talking Starc into mid is we missing a big bodied mid.
CEY not worked. J Berry spends a lot of time injured and Rayner did his knee.

I agree if Starc happy down back leave him there been super solid should of got a AA

Although comes back to our midfield needs a bit of a update.
We need some super speed.. maybe as Vic guys never played we could get a good player at 14 or 18
or bust :(
