Each to their own, still feel other clubs would have had plans in case. It seems GWS were clueless. It was hilarious though and I loved Kinear and Darymple trolling GWS hard. I mean their whole trade period was questionable. Give us one reason they needed to trade up from 3 to 1 burning a mid first rounder? Not as if North were picking a Key tall over the two players they picked.
The mega trade probably doesn’t happen without GWS being involved, and trading up to 1.

West Coast don’t make their trade back.

And North get a sh!tty return for JHF.

North probably do take Cadman at pick 1 in such a scenario.

What Sydney did was very good from a strategic sense, and I applaud that.

But it was still a d!ck **** move considering how GWS has been screwed over by being pillaged by the Vics.

I genuinely hope karma bites Sydney in the @rse for the next decade.

We did offer them a deal how they could trade up to our pick…they refused. So we bid. Not as if they haven’t bid on our players, Blakey was one.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I am pretty sure if you trade out your future 1st, you can’t trade out other future picks.

Although an element of luck is involved (2 first round FS in one draft), Brisbane have done extremely well not to go into deficit, which would affect those future picks. That’s the key part, particularly given future FS/NGA talents coming through.

Probably with winners of the draft/trade period. I can’t see any club coming close to claiming that tittle this year.
That is correct. For this year.

But come next year’s trade period, we can trade any of our 2023 picks plus our 2024 future first round picks.

Matching Ashcroft and Fletcher this year, counts as drafting two kids in the first round, and carries us through the next 3 drafts after this year, as meeting the AFL’s drafting two kids in the first round in a 4 year cycle, and future trading of picks, rules.

Hahahaha he was the King last night for sure

Has to be the first time that every single club liked Sydney (aside from GWS and their fans), this has to be a first!
What you did also potentially affected West Coasts drafting strategy for the second round.

And it definitely affected GWS’s.

That’s going have a flow on affect of the kids available (it already has), and there are going to be a few teams now who miss out on who they were hoping to be available at their pick/s in the second round.

Sydney may not be as well liked as you believe.

We offered GWS a deal- it’s their choice to not take it. Not sure how it affected WCE still plenty of WA talents and Allen was never getting past there.

GWS' trade/draft so far is not looking great to me. That Sydney bid and then taking Konstanty was brutal. Need to nail their next 2 picks.

Out- Pick 3, Tim Taranto, Jacob Hopper, Tanner Bruhn, Bobby Hill, Pick 21, GWS F2

In- Aaron Cadman, Harry Rowston, Darcy Jones, Pick 19(22), Pick 31(34), RichF1
Everyone trying to get Reid

Hawks will be getting worried

GWS couldn't do it because they had multiple first round picks. Trading out 17 would've just meant that they're next first rounder would've been taken up. They would have had to trade out all of their 3 early picks just to match with later picks, inside of the 5 minute time limit

But having pick 18 swallowed up while trading pick 15 for whatever they could get for it would've been better for them, wouldn't it?

if you look exclusively at the draft, I'd say the swans, eagles and roos would be happy.

overall off-season, hard to go past Brisbane, Geelong and Port (JHF + Rioli are great pickups)

GWS surely just want it over now.

Yep the swans idea of offering a deal ..

I agree with your assessment on the draft winners, but not convinced with your assessment on Port.

JHF and Rioli are great pick ups, but came at a pretty big price and Port still have some big key position player issues. Particularly in the ruck (Lycett is all but cooked) and key defenders (the only developing key defender, Pasini, is out with an ACL).

I think it should have been either JHF or Rioli and then banked some capital at the draft (when I say either, I mean JHF).

Hopefully tonight Van Es slips to Port, but that’s still a 3 year investment at which time Jonas, Alliir and Clurey will all be playing with zimmer frames.

Also just remembered you guys have a F/S that is very likely to be bid on very early on Day 2 of draft night which would wipe out your pick 25.

Looking at it

Pick 22 (GWS) - Could want a big bodied mid
Pick 23 (West Coast) - Again could want a big bodied mid
Pick 24 (Bulldogs) - Won't want a big bodied mid
Pick 25 (Essendon) - Could want a big bodied mid, but pick could be wiped out by F/S bid
Pick 26 (North) - I would be surprised if they pick a mid with this pick
Pick 27 (Sydney)

So to me there are only 2 clubs (GWS and West Coast) who are serious threats in taking Hustwaite before the Swans pick, of course that is assuming Sydney want Hustwaite as well.

Hustwaite isn’t considered just a mid.

AFL recruiters see him as a Jordan Dawson type at half back.

The kid GWS drafted with their last pick, was probably the kid WC earmarked as their Willi Rioli replacement.

So now they look at one of the Vic kids, Burgial or Hotton.

There are still WA kids on the board and it’s not as if WCE are against Vic kids anyway. You are never going to get a perfect draft especially when you are talking 15+ range in an open draft

GWS would have had three live picks before WCE with Rowston originally expected to go in the mid 20's, now they'll only have two + their academy player.

So I don't see how it changes anything for WCE.
