Taylor a possibility also.

Laird, Keays, Sloane, Berry, Soligo, Schoenberg are all ahead of him. Crouch and Hately too most likely.
Let's not forget the Rachele/Rankins mid double act, Pedlar, Nankervis, Bond and Dowling.

We have a lot of mids - and given that its generally agreed that we have a lowly ranked midfield - some of these chaps need to get going ..... or get going!

Who, of these, is an element of a game winning midfield? Not many I would say. Time to try them all out, make strong decisions then move some on and target the right ones in.

My guess is Laird (until age bites) then Taylor, Berry with Rankine in a Robbie Gray sort of part-time role and Soligo on the wing. Hopefully Pedlar, Dowling or Bond excel, but they’ve done nothing yet.

After that, someone yet to be drafted/traded in …. with one of Taylor or Soligo possibly being used as collateral. A decent ruck would also assist the midfield.

I don't think it was deemed he wasn't good enough, he was probably our best player through the sanfl finals after coming back from injury.
It's just that our list management has been so terrible, we have 5-6 spuds on our list that still have contracts that we couldn't free up a spot for him

I don't think there's any players on our list that have less value than him. Close call Crouch and Sloane, but they're finishing up after having very good useful lifes. Fish maybe, but I'm not sure what's happened with him can be blamed on list management. Seed msybe as well, but I'd prefer he get this last year ahead of being pushed out for a fringe at best midfielder.

La Schoenberg are all ahead of him. Crouch and Hately too most likely.

This is where we lack in vision.
Laird,Keays,Sloane and Crouch barely scrape the bottom of the barrel in a bottom 4 midfield. Laird has a place, but not as a Centreman.

Murray and Strachan sign new deals

i quite like Strachan, would have dropped zROB quicker and more often, but 3 more seasons with him and ROB locked in is too much. We really are backing in the current list. Just get more games into them and pair it with continuity and we're golden.

Hope I am proved wrong but I don't think he is up to AFL standard. I don't think ROB is a superstar either but I think he will always be ahead of Strachan.

I think it's a good move though. We need a backup and someone to put pressure on ROB. The contract will be torn up if another club approaches him for their number 1 role and we should get decent compo.

For mine Cook was the biggest disappointment of the 2022 season. It was like there might be something going on away from football so underwhelming his whole approach was.
I agree, I had high hopes for him after his 2021 year. Interrupted preseason and covid wouldn't have helped, but the noticeable avoiding contact was concerning.

If I was him I'd be having a big year in the gym this off-season and spending alot of time with Berry not Sholl.

Looks like he's injured atm, so not a great start again.

We spoke to him before the draft, we were the only club to do so.

I’d wager heavily we told him to nominate 6 months

From memory there was only 2 players drafted that nominated specific terms - Carmichael being one

So I think you would lose your wager - as 90% of the field went in with the standard option of 6 months

Why would that suggest the wager would be lost. All clubs would have talked to the players they were looking at and most certainly have advised them of the conditions under which they'd select them. Very few would have enough demand to set their own terms. They'd almost all be told that it's 6 months or not at all. Sanders wins that bet every time.

Sure. Roughly 200 out of 210 players were advised to run with the std contract conditions. It would have nothing to do with those 200 players being desperate for an opportunity and therefore maximising their ability to get listed by nominating the minimum.

More like the 10 other players were either told by the club that was selecting them to nominated extra terms to minimise interest from other clubs or they had personal circumstances that they wanted to ensure it was worthwhile for them.

However this point doesn’t make the club look like a bunch of aholes so I guess your view is correct
