I personally don’t understand all the hate for McHenry.

Sure he isn’t the most well rounded footballer, but he is not anywhere near the worst.

I think he has upside.

I’d want to see the back of Rowe, Crouch, Frampton, Hately and Sloane before anyone approaches Ned’s shoulder.

And after all that, would you continue to play him in the same position?

but they are all out
mcfluffy and murphy need to be out too

The missing part of the equation is that we need to have created a vacancy on the rookie list for him to move into.

Effectively it's Seedsman + Rookie X -> Senior List vacancy + Rookie List vacancy, but the rookie list vacancy can't be filled until after the RD (i.e. via PSSP or MSD).

The other 3 rookies are contracted for 23

Yes... but going to 38/4 is unlikely, and the post I was replying to hadn't factored in Rowe's departure - only Frampton, Brown & Davis.
There's absolutely no reason to not go to 38/4.

Clubs take extra rookies because you get a $80k salary cap discount per rookie.

BUT you can only use that if you're using your entire salary cap, and we're miles off that.

So there's no advantage in having extra rookies for the Crows.

We have 3 rookies who won't be on the rookie list next year - and 1 who shouldn't be (and hopefully won't). Strachan & Butts will be upgraded, Davis delisted, and Turner also (hopefully) delisted. That creates 3 vacancies on the rookie list, one of which would be filled by Seedsman, until we can put him on the inactive list.

You keep telling yourself that, if it makes you feel warm & fuzzy.

I put the chances of us running a full senior list at less than 10%. Possible, but unlikely.

I'm not telling myself anything.

I'm just listing the fact that the only reasons to run a larger rookie list is for the salary cap savings and to put someone on a year contract - well, we can't fill our salary cap as it is, and we have 15 players ending their contract in 2023.

I know you can get stuck thinking your opinions are fact, but common sense shows there's a very strong likelihood we run with 38/4 in 2023.

What’s his upside? In which areas?

He still panics. He gives away too many frees and fumbles. I think those are areas he has instant upside as they are mental parts of the game.

He tackles, chases, hits the contest hard. His disposal has improved, as has his goal kicking. And apparently he is a decent runner (I think I heard a commentator mention it one time).

These are areas he has upside in by using his strengths better for the team.

But people hate Keays too, so I guess if they aren’t at Jarman, McLeod, Goodwin, Edwards, Modra levels … we should delist?

On to your last point that’s just nonsense and you know it.

But ok let’s look at his strengths “tackles, chases, hits the contest hard”. You could get someone from the SANFL to do that, not a first rounder. By the way he averaged only 3 tackles a game.

His disposal has improved? That’s debatable, he still can’t kick more than 40 metres. Goal kicking? He kicked 13 goals for the year with some embarrassing attempts.

He’s just an poor to average footballer.

We delisted Riley Knight who was better, let that sink in.

Here’s a question for you, would other AFL clubs want him and what would be his trade value?

Why exactly should we delist Turner at this point if Matt Crouch is hitting the road? Easily our best SANFL mid in the Finals, big body, good turn of pace and a proven goal kicking mid, makes no sense not to retain him on the rookie list for another preseason to see what he's got when up to AFL fitness.

So was he Hamish’s pick now after a good finals series ;)

Any other senior mids play well this final series? There’s been a few who used to be on AFL lists, we could rebuild our midfield based on SANFL finals form, Young, Wigg, Moore.

Vader didn't watch any of Turner's games.

I would put all of them infront of McHenry except for perhaps Sloane who is cooked. Rowe has a footballing mind and can create, Crouch can find the pill, Frampton could be an intercept defender, Hately can flirt with the relm of competency when put in the guts.

As the other poster mentioned where is the upside with Ned?
