I bet he never played in a game involving a Croatian team against a Serbian team.
Yes, given his ethnic heritage I suspect that’s not your most heroic assumption ever.

Look no-one can read someone’s mind but I strongly suspect the quest for a racism-free nirvana is not what’s motivated Goodes.

I can definitely believe sticking it up the AFL is part of his motivation though.

I just think he wants to help indigenous kids get into a sport. Soccer is the game he is playing and the environment he is enjoying atm and as Goodes said, the AFL does a better job at promoting their sport to indigenous kids and then succeeding onto higher levels
Luckily for Adam, he'll never have to play a game of soccer in Eastern Europe and Russia.
Actually, even places like Spain and Italy are bad enough (when it comes to taunts directed at black players).
racism is a world and social issue. every sport has problems because of this.

Indeed. Some more than others though.

Where did i say that? I didn't
You have really made yourself look a total Goose again but that's not hard
Now stop trolling me and get a life.

You said some sports have more racism than others.

I´m sitting on the edge of my seat waiting you to enlighten us which ones and explain how you quantify this.

The fact of the matter is that the NRL grand final is not as culturally important in Sydney as the grand final is in Melbourne.
There is a reason why the MCC has a lengthy waiting list for memberships and why it's commonplace in Melbourne that newborns are signed up.
Is there an equivalent for the Olympic Stadium?
Most probably not.
Having said that, if say a club like Souths won two grand finals in a row, and as it happened, neither of them were played in Sydney, then HQ would know about it in no uncertain terms.

It doesn’t invalidate your post, but just pointing out there’s also a lengthy waiting list for the SCG and newborns are signed up for it.

Yep, most years anyone can buy a ticket to the NRL grand final a day or two before hand - sometimes on the day itself. I've regularly seen them discount tickets in those last couple of days to try and ensure it sells out. It simply doesn't occupy the same position as the AFL GF does in Melbourne.

Yes, the strength of the NRL GF is as a television event.

But will be interesting to see (presuming the ratings stayed just as high) what the implications would be if the shifting venue actually generated an increase in attendance.

If a moveable NRL grand final becomes a reality will be very interesting to see how it pans out.

Including the Vic government rolling out taxpayer dollars .... making a business decision as it did when the AFL paid the piper.

No, but its a hell of a selling point for a national competition if the grand final can get shopped around the country. If Suncorp is being considered then it's fair to say they'd consider Adelaide Oval and Optus as well. It would sell the game better than a SOO game IMO.

I still think it's ultimately useless without either basing a team in those locations or playing multiple games a year there, though.

Yeah that's true. But presumably there is an intention to do that in the longer term, although the NRL don't appear to have the same desire to expand as the AFL do. At least not to the extent that they get their wallets out.

Seems the thinking is:

NRL grand final: Follow NFL Super Bowl and take rugby league’s decider on the road

The AFL committed to a mega-deal with the Victorian government in 2018 to keep the grand final at the MCG until 2057. It helps feed the narrative that the AFL remains a national league in name only.
In contrast the most profitable sports league in the world, the NFL, takes the Super Bowl to a different venue each year.

The NRL must follow the NFL’s lead. Last year we were given a taste of what a grand final would be like out of Sydney. Sure Covid-19 forced the NRL’s hand but it took nothing away from Penrith’s premiership at Suncorp Stadium.

Brisbane should host at least one grand final every four years.

If that works then explore other potential venues – Melbourne, Perth, or even New Zealand.

The NRL has shown it is willing to sell State of Origin to the highest bidder as they take one game each series out of the traditional home venues. Well grand finals make more sense to do.

Not sure how it would get an increase in attendance unless it was played at the MCG?
A) Is it currently always a sellout? (Asking, I don’t know)

B) If the venue is already at capacity but there is a further increased demand for tix regardless (ie sells out even faster than previously) that can most certainly be a factor in a leagues forward planning.

I dunno, I’m just spitballing here.

A village is missing its idiot. Now go back to your quiet English village

Sorry for being such an idiot and so naive about this subject.

I will try again:

Which sports have more racism problems than others? And how do you measure this?

I´m genuinely interested. Thanks in advance.

Except more often than not the AFL GF wins the ratings even thought it is in the Sat afternoon TV dead zone!
