Aren't most of the PI teams Australians (and kiwis) with PI heritage?

Yep it's the weird thing about the R.L world cup. It's basically teams filled with blokes from western sydney playing for countries of their parents or grandparents. I doubt people in Lebanon for example, would even know they have a national team competing in a world cup at the moment.

One of the great sporting crowds in Melbourne last night: 90,293 for India v Pakistan.

I think the only official crowds in international cricket history to be higher are the 2015 World Cup final, Boxing Day 2013 & a day of the Aus/WI MCG test in 1960 (almost certainly some other crowds in India have been larger).

Just quietly, puts into perspective Sydney only managing 34k for Australia/NZ as the opening match of the main phase of the tournament.

Absolutely gob-smacking attendance.

Yes broke the previous record of 87,182 at the 1992 WC final between Pakistan and England.

India v South Africa in the 2015 world cup group stage also got 86,786. I remember being gobsmacked by that crowd, was expecting it to be about 50k going in.

If India make the final we are guarenteed another 90k plus crowd.

Samoa got their WC back on track with a 72-4 win over Greece.
I think 4,415 is a decent crowd for this game and augurs well for the growth of Grecian rugby league.
Greece winger Siteni Taukamo had another good game with three try saving tackles.
Being only 18, you'd have to think that he has a big future wearing Grecian representative honours.

Do India and england play eachother? That would be large
They are in different pools.

They are the best two teams in it for mine so every chance they end up in the final. If Australia don't make the final an India v England or India v Pakistan again would be best for the hype level.

The T20 crowds apart from Melbourne and Sydney so far have for the most part been abysmal with England v Afganistan in Perth on Sat drawing a small crowd of 8045!
There is also a report that India and Pakistan could play a Test Match at the MCG in the future.

Original post was regarding biggest cricket crowds at the MCG not involving Australia.

Biggest all time cricket crowds have already been mentioned in the thread:

1. 93013 Australia v New Zealand CWC Final 2015
2. 91092 Australia v England 4th test 2013
3. 90800 Australia v Windies 5th test 1960
4. 90293 India v Pakistan T20 WC 2022
5. 89155 Australia v England 4th test 2006

I actually went to the 1960 Test match and it was a great day with such a huge crowd which cricket did not get back in those days as most of the cricket being played was slow and boring but the WI sure put a stop to that playing a faster more entertaining style and that is why a record crowd of 90,800 to turned up which then took another 53 years to break.

In those days as with the VFL as well you bought your ticket at the Stadium on the day of the match as there were very pre booked tickets available - mainly MCC Members.

It really is not cricket weather atm. Hobart was so so cold. Was a miracle that the weather held out for as long as it did.

Not many Australian supporters are truly engaged in this world cup yet. India matches will probably out-attended the home nation at this rate.

Wow, someone on BF older than me!

Speaking of 1960, did you happen to be at the grand final that year, when the Magpies scored 2.2.14?

India will easily out draw Australia. Oz tickets way too expensive.

what was final crowd?

25,061

Extremely poor. First proper international cricket match for Australia in Perth for 2 or 3 years as well.

Will be interesting to see how Aus v Eng fares at the MCG on Friday, particularly given the weather forecast of 15 and showers.
