Maybe he wasn't lying. Maybe he meant what he said a few weeks ago, wasn't aware Matt hadn't triggered the 2nd year of his current contract (and now wasn't going to because of injury), was tapped on the shoulder by Reid who told him we weren't going to renew and was left to deliver the bad news.

He appears to have dropped off a cliff without his brother there to receive his handball out the back. Brad seems to have struggled without getting the handball as well. Maybe the saints should look at getting matt

It's no coincidence imo that his form has gone down without his brother in the side

Regarding the Crouch comments, I would expect a coach in public to always support a player under pressure like Matt has been this year. Even if nobody believes the comments, a good coach will not publically execute a player.

Brad's been only solid, with the best and worst sides of his game being exactly the same as they always were.

St Kilda have been absolutely mediocre for a fully mature side that should be competing for a top four spot. Their midfield has been b-list.

If you think anything else, you obviously only watched the West Coast game and not the eight weeks prior.

I would never give a moment's thought to any of the standard "we take it a week at a time" comments coaches say.

Maybe Walsh had a standard line, I don't remember. But most coaches would say that any listed player is important, right up to the point they're delisted.

I'd care what Nicks said directly to Crouch, but we don't know that.

For such a highly ranked Junior footballer I don't know what to make of Brad Crouch's career. He will end up playing over 150 AFL games and has been an above average footballer.

I know he has struggled with Lower Leg injuries early on in his career (plus the groin surgery) so I wonder if that has stopped him from going to the next level. (this might be a Luke Pedlar reference).

This just shows the lack of experience, how naive he is and his true man management skills.

You really think hearing one thing from the coach in the public domain and then acting in the complete opposite is good for the player and club?

He didn't need to say that all.

He could have been more authentic and say Crouch has challenges ahead of him, but all players go through this. At the end of the day he's a part of this club and we support our players through these tough times.

Exactly right. The lack of authenticity is the concern. It’s come through on multiple occasions now . That is not the way to build a winning culture. Nicks needed to build the expectation that he would be honest from day 1 with players and not try to please everyone. A ‘pleaser’ coach can’t built a winning culture.

So our coaching panel wasn't able to get the best out of him so he was deemed the problem and forced out ? Or Brad needed to be shown the door to wake up to himself?

Either way our club is the loser.. on and on it goes.

Matt's attitude in this whole thing has been pretty piss poor. I can get being disappointed or frustrated, but we constantly hear how angry he is, how furious he is. How he can't believe this has happened to him, how he's been blindsided by it. Mate, it's elite team sport. You're not owed a spot, and you are only as good as your contribution to the team. If you don't fit in the side there's no point getting angry about it. You're not Leigh Matthews mate, you're a player who was once very good and is now just good, and you don't fit into our current structure or our future plans. You're not being dudded by being left out the side. Your presence in the side is just no longer a positive.

It would be one thing if we were flying on-field, but we've been a basket case for years now. Time to move on.

But that's my point - it doesn't. Clubs would know what his strengths and weaknesses are right now. THe fact that we as a developing side don't see a place for him in our 22 doesn't change the potential value he's going to provide another team, based on where they are at in the lifecycle and the skills gaps they may in their list profile.

Oh they'll value him alright, no doubt about it. That WE don't means they won't have to pay as much (to us) for him.
