Weekend Wrap and "Liked, Learned, Hated" right here -- How did tipping go?
Yeah that's fair. I naturally gravitate to the victorians. Guys like Lewis Hayes and Gruzewski I'd be happy with. And maybe even reach on Weddle.Hewett one of my top 6 or 7 players in the entire draft, if I was in charge and he was there at 13 not a chance I'd pass going off what ive seen.
As always tho, ill trust in JT however over myself or any supposed draft experts.
Pavlich, Rance, Burgoyne, Bradley, Kernaghan etc etc. Drafting from just inside your own state would be dumb as ****Also, thats a hell of cherry picking. Imagine passing on Lance Franklin, Luke Parker, Andrew Gaff, Luke Shuey, Ollie Wines, Travis Boak, Patrick Cripps etc coz you got worried about the go home factor
Pick 5 is not overs. You overrate the value of a draft pick. There's some good players take at pick 5 and some average players taken at pick 5. I'd take Rankine 3rd in this list behind Rozee and DeGoey. They got pick 5 for Rankine which is way overs.

2011: Matt Buntine
2012: Stringer
2013: Kade Kolodjashnij
2014: DeGoey
2015: Parish
2016: Setterfield
2017: Cerra
2018: Rozee
2019: Dylan Stephens
2020: Braeden Campbell
If we took Naitanui over Watts in 2008, he would've gone home after a couple of years. That doesn't excuse the failed Watts pick but picking up Naitanui wouldn't have been a good pick. Also, thats a hell of a cherry picking. Forward pockets are extremely important and becoming moreso in todays game. They're dangerous. Literally if you want a good one you generally have to get them early. That's why we grabbed Kozzie at 12 and Cody Weightman went at pick 15.No way should a forward pocket should ever go for pick 5 imo. Its not an important enough position.

Rankine had a good season last season. He has elite talent and as I've proven with the last 10 years of data of pick 5, there's a lot of spuds in that list.
So in the last 10 years of data from pick 5's. where do you rank Rankine in that list?Did I say you shouldn't take one at pick 5 or did I say shouldn't take one at pick 12 or 15 ?

This year was one of the busiest trade periods ever but here's some players who moved clubs but didn't return home. Those are definitely not the ratios. And there are exceptions to every rule but even at the recent trade period the following players returned home. And it' only going to get worse.
Karl Amon: returned home.
Taranto: returned home.
McStay: returned home.
Darcy Tucker: returned home.
Tanner Bruhn: returned home.
Luke Jackson: returned home.
Horne-Francis: returned home.
Rankine: returned home.
Some of these trades have set a club back many years such as the Rankine one.

Also let's not lose our minds over JVR or Kosi leaving when it hasn't even happened.
Should've traded him this year for more value while we had the chanceI'm hearing JVR was back in Perth during the off-season hanging out with Jesse Hogan and Luke Jackson

Tend to agree, we aren't going to get value for him when he's out of contract and looking to go homeShould've traded him this year for more value while we had the chance![]()
How could Ben Brown do this, Can't believe he's personally trying to destroy the clubTend to agree, we aren't going to get value for him when he's out of contract and looking to go home
Poor list management really. We only have ourselves and Ben Brown to blame.

I appreciate you doing the research and having an informed reply. I think we can discount all of the players that are fringe players and were chasing more opportunities as players will often go against what they want to do in preference of opportunities so players like Hunt, Bedford, Corbett and Francis I'd put in that lot. All of the other ones I agree with. But the ratio of 1:10 (for every 1 player that goes, 10 players stay) is incorrect. That would mean that for the 8 players that left in this trade period, then 80 chose to stay. That certainly didn't happen. And we can exclude players that are forgone because when you draft someone you're not drafting them with the idea of them being fringe players. This year was one of the busiest trade periods ever but here's some players who moved clubs but didn't return home.
Bobby Hill
Ben Long
Jack Gunston
Brodie Grundy
Billy Frampton
Aaron Francis
Tom Mitchell
Josh Dunkley
And heres the players that moved away from their home state
Jayden Hunt
Blake Acres
Griffin Logue
Josh Corbett
Toby Bedford
Jack Bowes
Jacob Hopper
Rory Lobb
I've given you 10 years of data of Draft pick 5. What else do you want. It seems you conveniently don't want to answer my question but I can confidently say that Rankine will help win more games than Setterfield, Stringer, Parish, Buntine, Kolodjashnij, Cerra, Dylan Stephen and Braeden Campbell would've at their own clubs. You could maybe make a case for Parish and Cerra but I don't rate them personally as high as others. Of that list of pick 5's there is not 1 forward pocket.Pretty silly way to look at things. How many wins do you think Rankine makes Adelaide better by? They have have far greater needs at more import positions to winning games than forward pocket.

So you're going to take the risk of not having one of the best forward pockets in the afl (def top 10) in Rankine at the risk of picking up a Setterfield, Dylan Stephens or Buntine just because they're midfielders? Now that's silly.

From a tiny viewing of Hewett, I like what I see. Similarly I didn't like Jefferson, as he was not much more than a kick straight merchant.Hewett for sure for me, reckon hes a beast. Great user. Surprised hes projected to go as late as he is but I guess thats what happens with the go home factor.
Jefferson was not much more than a kick straight merchant, from the video I watched, no body on body work..lol. I didn't see the mock draft but most of the people doing the mock haven't seen 1 second of the draftees so it's just a guessing game. I would like Jefferson at our pick with the understanding that he'll take a few years to bulk up.
