I’m not sure why Gunston would want to go to Brisbane or why Brisbane want Gunston.

Their forward line was so unbalanced with Hipwood, Daniher and McStay. I don’t see why another tall in that forward line is the answer.

Mcstay is going to Collingwood. A more mobile Gunston is the perfect replacement.

What would you offer him?

He will do an Isaac smith and chase another flag if he leaves.

I’d offer Gunston 500k a year for 2 years to get him across for free with a trigger for a third

I reckon hawks will only offer 1 or 2 years

The problem is that they should have Hipwood playing that role. It’s no coincidence that their forward line was better with no Daniher. Too many tall forwards of similar type.

Hawthorn will offer 2 years for sure. Gunston might bite at a solid 3 year deal, but I still think he would only consider a contender.

They are on more than that, it’s just that most of it is off the books.
Yeah all the big clubs are doing it and everyone knows it.
Cats are chasing Bruhn , Bowes and were after hopper before he chose the tuggers
Footy media and public are just turning a blind eye to this

Gunston isn’t really a tall forward, he is only 193cm. He is mobile and very good at ground level. A Hipwood, Daniher, Gunston combination is pretty good imo.

I firmly believe it's time to make player salaries public as a way to protect the integrity of the salary cap and is transparent. Unfortunately transparency is not in the AFL's dictionary so probably will never happen
Certainly, the AFL has not a signle shred of interest in transparency.

If publishing players' salaries is too hard, surely it's possible for clubs to publish the salaries they paid, without naming the players. One club might have a salary of $1M, one at $800k, two at $750k and so on. It would give supporters some measure of confidence that the salary cap applies equally at all clubs.

I mean he did say there were no KPP worthy of a Top 5 pick before effectively calling Tsatsas a bit of a cat.

In any case, it’s got to be better than 3 hours of Wallet rewriting history and taking unwarranted credit for the development of premiership players all whilst constantly referring to some sort of ******* mediocrity vortex.

Well we ******* showed him didn’t we, no more vortex for us, list manager.
Don't even get me started on that leathery rasping gronk and his "footy golf" bullshit. If him and Rendell were dropped on the corner of Victoria and Lennox they wouldn't look out of place

Nice post FG, I'm awarding you a par.

I think we still have room for an elite wingman or a talent like perhaps Sheezel who went into the middle and was able to get back to back 30+ possession games but is a pretty electric forward.

My main concern is our ability to win enough of the contested ball post-Cunners, assuming our top-end mids make the grade and in the middle we have Phillips, LDU and JHF with Thomas and Sheezel on the wings, that to me would be A-grade across the park with the ability of JHF and Sheezel to go forward.

The elephant in the room is Jy. As much as I love Jy, his decision making/disposal at stoppages isn't elite, he is dangerous when he has more time and space to use his agility and going inside 50 from close range is good but he hasn't been a run and carry type of player. I am not sure if someone like Clarkson can get more out of him. He is giving 100% and he has been flying the flag in the guts with Cunners down but he has a lot of similar traits to Ziebell when he played in the middle.

In the short-term, yeah, we are okay for mids but if you were constructing a premiership midfield for 3-5 years time and you have pick 1 would you be happy with what you have for the future? Because once we start to rise, can kiss goodbye this calibre of pick/player.
Mate if we can’t win enough ball with Simpkin, LDU, Jason, Tarryn, Phillips, Powell, Goater and Stephenson with cameos from Zurhaar, Curtis, Perez, Clark and Scott, then we are ucked anyway.

If we were to go another mid, it would need to be a Bont/Cripps size mid imo.

Mods can you thread ban these idiots.
Grumpier by the day.

Love it.

It’s not about the listed salary, it’s all the off the book stuff that is making the comp so unbalanced.

If the system it worked as intended good players looking for a good contract would move to the clubs with the cap space. Instead these players move to the strong clubs for less on the books and the rest off the books.

The old line that they came here for less for success is a furphy. These blokes are getting the full whack, just off the books.

Not even creative. They just blatantly take advantage of the elephant in the room that the AFL doesn’t want to acknowledge.
Shaun Higgins, Luke Dahlhaus both earn 50% more than the Coleman Medalist apparently, let that sink in. They also have Ceglar WTAF?

So there’s the $1.3m they are freeing up with retirements.

Obviously Hawk will end up as a regional vice-president of **** in assery at Cotton On or Costa Group when he retires. Or alternatively, he may also just be independently wealthy and not give a flying. Yeah nah.

There you go talking North of the river again, like I have a ****ing clue.

Gronk i like. Will use.

Ps: I reckon we scored an A+ twice in losses last year according to Tel, ohhh Tel “when I used to cup Alex Rance’s balls, did you know I drafted him?” Wallet.

As an aside, even Allan Jeans hated Wallet, AFAIK Allan Jeans only hated two people; Kevin Sheedy and Terry Wallet, been dead a long time but that old campaigner was an incredible judge of character, wasn’t he?

I heard on AFL360 Chris Scott crapping on how good that win was because they are in an era of equalisation.

What a joke. Your not fooling anyone Scott. There must be some very lucky player relatives that magically received windfalls from Geelong benefactors.

The AFL will continue to turn a blind eye and the comp will continue to be the furtherest thing from equalised.
This Chris Scott?

This is my favourite:

"My simplistic view of it, without free agency we'd have more loyalty," Scott said. "Most players, most really good players given a choice would play at one club their entire career."

Hypocritical flog.

The issue is you don't know is going to make the grade and who isn't. You want to assemble as much talent as possible and then like a game of musical chairs, you keep those who make the grade. The others you find a different role or you trade them in future years for more currency.

In a perfect world you would only need 25 picks and nail every pick for every spot we have a vacancy but it doesn't pan out that way. You can list a bunch of names, but until they start showing they can get the job done we can't assume they will just because they were good as a junior, everyone running around was good as a junior and we have a massive variance in outcomes.

Mattaes Phillipou is 191cm and 83kg, he is hovering somewhere around the top 10 I think, can ask Souup if you want to ask about potential larger bodied midfield prospects. He is from SA so I would imagine Crows or Port might have a crack at him depending on what their draft hand looks like.

I mean if we are considering trading in Hunter Clark we obviously aren't done taking in mids.

Not a lot of pack-crashing power there. Reckon Daniher and Eric are too similar.
McStay was their pack crasher.

100% right. Not sure that Daniher and Hipwood actually complement each other and bringing in Gunston just adds another player that plays a similar athletic style.

They get away with it against shit sides, but the good sides with organised defensive structures just stifle them even more.

Not sure how to tweet like that bloke with the rumours but.
'Is it true that Oh when the Saints have re-signed two ex giants of North in Campbells and Woods, why don't they go the whole hog
and recruit Turners too"

Campbells was pretty good for them this year.

I think Daniel Gorringe said it best, that if you are really tall and play ruck you can have a 10 year career in the AFL system and you don't have to be all that good either .
