Actually the more I think about this, the more it seems like the only reason we’d trade him is if we’ve decided he’s just not afl level professionalism and we can’t get him there. The spaghetti arms noted on here would be an argument in favour of that.

Still a big development failure by the club though. Do you think he’d be phoning it in if he was at Geelong or Sydney?
Not sure if Spaghetti arms can be used as evidence, but I think it is entirely possible that the club is unimpressed with elements of Hunters preparation.

Some have noted why trade an existing young best 22 player for another young best 22 type? It could all be about trajectory.

Yeah they keep throwing up xerri as well. We don’t want him. That priority pick (that they don’t yet have) isn’t getting anything done.
I would take it for Hill and 200k of the salary, however if we have nothing to spend it on, why even bother?
Just keep Hill, keep Clark and Norfie can have pick 1 and pick 55 to rocket up the charts.

You have ruled out finals next year? Really?

A softer draw could well se us playing finals next year. Though there is a big difference being making finals, and being good in the finals period.

How we play, could also make a huge difference in our number of wins. Watching the finals to date clearly demonstrated that our prop and stop style is a recipe for defeat. The other aspect is Ratts being able to get us player well more often. No team does it 100% of the time, but we had way too many games where we only played well enough for a quarter. No just Ratts though, it is the players too. More of them have to commit more.

Having said the above, to become a true Top 4 Team, we still need some exciting break away mids. Some other talent would be handy too, but that lack of spark in our midfield is an Achilles heel.

Personally the other main point is that we find another key forward in addition to Max King. That will ease the load on Max and allow him to be better, while also making us less predictable. I know we push Marshall forward and he is ok in that, but he simply does not play and lead like a true key forward. Hopefully Hays can be that player in 2023.

Next year's list as it stands:

31: Campbell
30:
29: Crouch, Hill, Ross, Webster, Wood
28: Jones, Lienert, Membrey, Sinclair
27: Billings, Howard, Marshall, Steele, Wilkie
26: Butler, Hayes, McKenzie
25: Gresham, Highmore, Long
24
: Battle, Clark, Higgins, Paton
23: Bytel, Coffield
22: King, Sharman
21: Allison, Byrnes, Connolly
20: Heath, Wanganeen-Milera
19: Adams, Owens, Peris, Windhager

The five highlighted there have question marks over them. Obviously the core is 24-29 and equally obviously there's only a handful coming through - we're going to have a huge hole in the list in those bottom five year levels if we don't get our skates on.

So from that perspective I understand why the strategy could be to add a good group of 18 year olds this year and next year, to give a good strong group coming through with Max. But that's also a tacit acknowledgement that this core isn't good enough to seriously compete.

You don’t see a disconnect between our membership and attendance.
"Buy one, get one free" will do that.
Might want to up it to buy one, get three free this year. Also adding a $10 half-arsed / lurker membership package might give us some extra numbers, especially from people on this forum :D

Won't help attendance though. Good footy will.

The Pies are certain to land GWS running half forward Bobby Hill and, despite some interest from St Kilda, Billy Frampton is expected to move from Adelaide to Collingwood.

Ben long also getting a 4 year deal from the suns.

If he's being offered 4 years it's pretty hard to begrudge him for leaving. That basically sets up his future and there is no way we're offering him anything like that.

Is Ben Long really getting four years at $500k? 😳

IF, and I say IF Long is getting offered 4x$500k then we can ask Gold Coast for more than an early second round pick because they clearly rate him higher than a second round pick.

Maybe but he's uncontracted. Mid 2nd would be 30ish. GC currently have 31, 34, 43. Unfortunately I reckon the most likely there is 43.

Actually look at Lipinski last year, pretty similar situation. Lipinski was pick 28; Longy was 25. Lipinski had 56 games over 5 years; Longy has 79 games over 6 years. Both of them were on the fringes of the first team, uncontracted, were offered an ok new deal by their existing club, and were also offered a good deal by another club but not super huge.

What did Lipinski go for? Pick 43.
