Really don't think it's the best way to help a club like North for a few reasons.

1. They're limited to a small pool of talent - players that are willing to go to North, and would be gettable for a future 2nd or future 3rd.... there aren't going to be many players in that pool that will help North significantly long term.
2. They have to be traded, gives the club no leverage. They will have to pay overs now.

If I were a North fan, I'd be asking why they even bothered to offer the "assistance" in the first place.
There are already players interested in going to North that would suit those pick values though

Logue, Hill, Tucker for example

I'm almost certain the AFL would have had these players in mind when thinking about what they give them

So they are essentially getting 2 or 3 of those players for nothing, whilst keeping their full draft hand for next year

I don't think that's anything to scoff at

The selections won't carry into 2023 for North Melbourne if they are not traded this year, but will be tied to North's finishing position next year for whoever ends up with them, creating a marketplace for rival clubs to take them from the Roos.

BrutThough
Start of Round would have been better given Hill would make them better, but should still end up an early 20s pick for whoever gets the 2nd rounder.

What makes you say that?
I would expect the powers at the club will be wanting replacements as good or better and if they don't get them they stay as contracted players.
Ratten's future in the balance and he would not want to lose 2 players in our best 22 for a couple average draft picks.

So it looks like Hill & Clark are staying
North aren’t the only club in for Clark.

I’m taking no credit for this if it turns out to be correct.

But someone else confirmed and they can attach their name to it if they want.

But GWS is a club keen.

GWS would be better for us if he left. They will have first rounders to spare.
They’ll have plenty of picks.

Spitballing with the pm group we came up with heaps of appealing structures and creative ways to satisfy for us.

3 + 12 for Clark + 9?

Finn Callaghan + 12 for Clark + 9?

They could potentially be an ideal trade partner.

But as I said. Spitballing.

Can't see any of that happening unfortunately

Giants won't be trading down from 3. They love their high picks.

Can't see them including Callaghan in any trade either

I'd take Richmond's first straight out.

Go into the draft with picks 9 and 13, try to nab one of GC's 2nd rounders for Long. Try to get a forward option with a later pik.

4 picks in the first 4 rounds, an added forward and finish the list with a one or two of our delisted player finds which we have been fairly good at.

Spot on here for mine Birdy. Looks like it will make for some clean and simple trade movement without any “actual” sacrifice on North’s part which is a great outcome for them and pretty savvy work from the AFL.

They will likely end up with 12, 19 and another future first (Richmond)

12 is probably the best we could hope for for Clark
Would probably seem a bit generous, but having someone nominate them might make them feel more generous.

Plus given they want more for Hooper being contracted, they also need to be willing to give more for a contracted player.

That said, I'd rather Clark stays.

As I said.

They appear to be the best partner with a real need for someone like Clark. We just spitballed what could mutually beneficial deals look like.

Ask for 2 firsts. Be unreasonable etc.

Shake the tree and see what falls out.

And just to be clear. It’s not a forgone conclusion Clark leaves.
